The Division Beta Thread: Make Manhattan Great Again

I do seriously think they need to add Clan stuff for the Division. The whole game screams out for the ability to make Divisions. Plus it means we could wear the same outfits or actually co-ordinate with multiple groups.

Well im still confused as to why the footage we've seen have things like "2CASTLE [Playername]" and such. I found nothing like that in the beta.

Most of the videos with that in seam to be Dev videos, I am not sure if it was just for that team + devs designation because they all had the same second name. Could be wrong!

Ubi do have a habit for missing out clan features in MP focused shooters.

Exactly how I feel. Both my wife and I are having trouble playing other games now. We just want to play The Division.

Ugggh. Same here. I found myself wanting to play again after the beta. I was also unsure if I wanted to even buying it when I first played the beta. But diving back in and playing with friends convinced me to get it either way. For now i'm playing the Witcher3 to keep me busy til the 8th.

Was clan support cancelled? It was definitely announced in 2013. They said clans wouldn't have any player cap and that they have a "very extensive web-based clan support system".

It's almost like it was some sort of system to help organize groups of players at a dev event and help distinguish almost identical looking agents
I mean it can't be that but a man can dream, right?

Unless they are hiding it away, the few videos I have seen with it mentioned, they tend to ignore it.

It would be a massive shame if I could not start Medic GAF to help/murder other players.

Gah, I don't want too but I might double dip on this game...X1 & PC....wouldn't be the first time tho!

I have even tripled dip in some cases....I haz problems :(

I do really hope there are some group identifiers at least. Would be neat.

So guys, whats your personal ideal end game?

Pretty simple for me. I would like a raid/s or any kind of high level PVE group content WITH matchmaking (looking at you Destiny) as an addition to the already known about level 30 DZ and challenge mode.

I'd say that they are not showing all their cards yet.

Hrmmm...8 player raids would be cool, as long as the encounters/loots are interesting. My main worry is that the variation won't be there and it will be go into room, deal with waves of enemies, move into next room, deal with waves of enemies and boss. Over and over. Hopefully they have some more interesting uses of the games mechanics to provide variation.

Its hard to have an actual end game because if you reach that, there needs to be something that drives you on. Diablo 3 style rifts. :D Start mixing up the enemies with crazy abilities etc.

What I really want is the RDZ. Really Dark Zone. Everyone is Rogue all the time and its damn dark down there. Flashlights are mandatory.

Does the friend importing on Steam work well on Uplay ?
I was getting this on PS4 then I saw a couple of my friends buy it on Steam who initially weren't interested.
I would like the Steam version, but it's easier to get a cheap Uplay version bc I'm probably keeping my PS4 preorder as well. First world probs!

I think you still need to be Uplay friends to be in game friends since UPlay is running in the background.

Diablo 3 style rifts actually sounds really great. As for your point about raids, I get where your coming from as I would also get bored by that relatively quickly. They could use modifiers or randomise the faction inside. They could also have fights that offer some variety to the encounter eg. the water pressure mission where you fight the cleaners in the sewer whilst shutting off the valves.

Contamination Mask - I would like these to be a form of attunement key. Lets take a level 10 Contamination mask, make it extremely difficulty to get, and make the raid a level 10 contamination zone... You must be wearing a level 10 mask to be safe inside the raid.

Dungeons / grouped content lead to raids - This should make sense, you shouldn't be able to get into raids with the basic level 30 gear... And I would hope getting pre-raid gear would be a challenge.

Tiered Raids - Raids are supposed to be very difficult and require some of the best gear to get into... I hope that the raid will not only require grouped content gear to get into, but after the first raid, will have a second harder raid that will REQUIRE you to have a certain amount of armor or possibly resistance type from the first raid to get into.

Just have some DZ portal and you get different effects, buffs/debuffs etc, and different enemy groups. Force players to work together and use their abilities. They already have a solid tactical edge to the game, so get players to use it.

Thinking part Diablo 3 with the bounty/Rift stuff and part Path of Exile's races. Give players different things to do.

Literally already in the game

I would also love a Raid where 4 teams of 4 attack the same encounter and its a race to get to the boss, kill/loot and then extract. The extraction system is pretty hectic anyway but add in much harder enemies and multiple other teams trying to prevent/steal your goods!

I did see a dev recently comment on reddit about the possibility of custom emblems, at least that's a start for clan identification.

Talking about reddit, I just read a rumor about the first raid being on Riker's Island. It all sounds pretty plausible.

I know it is in the game for some of the Dark Zone chests and random areas, but they haven't said a word about it being in grouped content or raids (since nothing has been said about either)
There is definitely stuff locked behind contamination in missions (There was a chest in the story mission that killed you getting to it) so I don't think it's unreasonable to say there will be stuff where you need contamination to do

While interesting its kind of a dick move to list all that information and even who the guy was to begin with.

People don't always think what they say or type. Even now he should still remove stuff from there, like that Mojang thing, because that is enough data for Ubi / Massive people to track leaker down.

That said I hope even raids feature matchmaking like story missions do.

Not alot can really happen due to gameplay and aesthetic in terms of WoW raids

No jumping - no jumping puzzles or platforming

There is button pressing so can get locked areas, key/door puzzles

Timed situations, defeat boss or mobs in ?min or less, if not its wipe/health loss

Maybe they'll fit in gearscore

It's pretty difficult to do crazy stuff since the game is pretty grounded

I do think that maybe they should deviate a little from the grounded and make some weird stuff, just for varieties sake.

I think the puzzle part will probably be navigating cover using the rappel lines and getting through larger buildings.

Nothing stopping them adding some more complex puzzles similar to the way Destiny does (Players split up and defend a section in order to unlock something else etc.)

Timed stuff could work. I actually think that tough bosses in team could really get players to work, especially if they have some form of enrage timer on harder difficulties.

The Path of Exile Lock Boxes could be a good idea for The Division.

Have ranked boxes that when opened have different affixes etc. Maybe they could have a weapon focused box, so if you need SMG's, you can open it but also risk having enemies spawn and attack you.

I'm probably in the minority, but what would sell me on the game is matchmaking in raids. At least normal mode. Especially if we are having a lot of people grouping together.

Have raids been confirmed? Watching a dev interview on endgame content, it didn't make me feel confident they are.

Beta had matchmaking basically for everything, good that character creation didn't have matchmaking. I will be surprised if raids, at least normal modes, don't come with matchmaking slapped on the box. I hope they give us details like if there is matchmaking for end game content when they talk about it pre-release.

Edit: Raids / "other high end game content" they have coming. I doubt that 7 player party box was there for nothing, totaling 8 players or 2x4 member fireteams.

I know two people who won't buy the game if matchmaking isn't in for raiding (if there are raids). I don't think you're in the minority at all. I think a lot of people would've loved matchmaking in Destiny for example. I really want it in.

Not reading the rumor link for fear of spoilers, but could someone that has read it tell me if it is hype worthy or hype deflator?

Worthy. As a location
[Rikers Island] it's very plausible along with other things he allegedly heard from Massive dev. Also would line up where on PC we were able to see HUD element for 7 players.

As long as raids don't just stay statically on one floor and they can move into different interesting set pieces. It should be really fun, it would be interesting if raids have their own little story line. Killing all the bad guys should be half the fun. Throw in some team based tasks to spice it up. Especially with the example of Rikers, could add some looked door scenario maybe even trying to put back the prisoners in jail.

It would be nice to have raids set in sectioned off parts of the city, or specifically build buildings. I am all for multi-part raids as well, since the build-up can be just as fun as the pay-off.

I do agree on the team front. They need to do things for variations sake. Maybe have one player assigned a task and they have to go and complete it and then head back.

The narrative side would also be great. I would love to see an extension of the storyline in the raids also. I guess the only thing is running them over and over, it becomes less about story and more about getting loot!

On another topic...

I do find it kind of strange that there seems, not to be that many main mission characters and side characters other then the faction leaders. No underlings or sub bosses, or religious nuts? what about a civilian brigade. Especially since the JTF is stretched so thin and is next to non-existent i wouldn't be surprised if the more resourceful folk of NYC try to fin for themselves. It's just odd that the Division doesn't seem to have that many compared to other Ubisoft games, especially with how colorful new york can be with who it attracts. Hope we get to meet some interesting personalities amongst the crisis , to tell other players about.

Fighting up the inside of the statue of liberty....subways leading to God knows what. Maybe abandoned submarines or some shit.

Honestly they need to break the grounded theme a little bit otherwise it's going to get stale.

Rappel from the empire state building and fight along rooftops. They could have some jaw dropping set pieces with us having to move cranes as puzzles and stuff to get to new rooftop spots. Draining waterways....it's all about creativity.

I guess we don't know what is out there yet. The sub-bosses are probably the named enemies you see dotted around. I am hoping they have a really fleshed out story in the game that does bring in these elements, even if some of them are only recordings or those hologram thingies.

All sounds awesome to me. I hope they don't tie themselves to just being on the ground, running around the streets. Sure we have seen sewers and buildings, but they need to beef up that variety!

Isn't it set like only a week or two after the outbreak though? I think introducing more organized enemy factions post-launch makes more sense.

Agreed. It makes more sense for the crazy religious faction aka AKIRA faction to appear once everything has utterly gone to shit.

Right i really hope this is not all we get and I'm sure it won't be. Because it would be criminal not to utilize all that new york has to offer, even in a crisis setting. People that may or may not have stood out, would stick out like a sore thumb in such a setting and i would really like to see who would take advantage of this blow to society. For better or worse, almost regardless of the main story line.

So what's the spoiler free news on that raid rumor? I was seeing heard there were story spoilers.....don't know why they had to do that

Yeah two to three weeks after the outbreak.

Though i kind of wish that the Factions weren't all just straight up bad guys. Would have been more interesting to add in a few factions that, weren't either bad or good. But it just depends on what needs to be done for them. Would add a interesting dynamic to PVE content and give players a choice to what they will do, thus it would be a action that would be something different in peoples instances. Which I'm not sure, currently will be to much different from what other people will do, when they start activating stations inside their HQ. Everyone will more or less do the same thing since you can replay missions.

Alleged raid info;
  • Rikers Island
  • Will open 2 weeks post-release
  • Normal is level 27, Hard is level 30
  • 8 players [on PC we saw HUD element for 1+7 player party]
