The Elder Scrolls Online |OT| of THE MOST HYPED GAME EVER

Im gonna give the thumbs up on this game after playing about 10 hours. The graphics are beautiful, the sound design is excellent, the quests are interesting. The gameplay doesnt really break new ground, but is solid and fun. Not sure on the crafting yet seems deep, may not be well see. Game runs smooth as hell for and the server is very smooth too.

edit: but fuck selling the horse for 20 bucks that is some bullshit, everybody should have to work for that in game.

Yeah,i am scratching my head myself. My friends and me didn't even last 1 hour before we quit out of this boring and horrendous game.

1 hour? Maybe during the beta? You didnt see anything then. You didnt see tons of quests that are just fun to play, with a good story. The world is HUGE, rewarding exploration with random events, hidden dungeons and quests.. The PvP campaign is complex and massive.

Sure, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but "horrendous" is the kind of exaggeration that is making people feel surprised when they actually play this game past the tutorial, and they have fun.

I am a huge Elder Scrolls fan. Between Oblivion and Skyrim I have easily put 1000 hours combined in the series. Being a gamer that plays games for story above all else I also other than Star Wars The Old Republic HATE mmo's. I have two questions about ESO:

1. How does it compare to Oblivion and Skyrim regarding gameplay, story, quests?

2. Other than a small amount of quests in The Old Republic I basically played it as a single player game, rarely interacting with others. Can you play ESO the same way?

Other than the optional first persion view, the gameplay feels a bit more like a jankier version of Guild Wars 2, except skills are dependent on resources (mana / stamina) rather than cooldowns. Other than three skill lines specific to each class, character building has the openness of the earlier games of the series.

The quests range from decent to fantastic, but as a whole they're head and shoulders above most other MMOs, though that's not a high bar to be honest. I've done very little of the main story, but it seems pretty good so far. Whether the game is faithful to the lore, I'll leave for someone else to answer.

And yes, you can play easily play the game as if it was singleplayer, though you'll find yourself butting heads with other players in the public dungeons from time to time.

What does this mean?

Shit is always poppin' during the first month of an MMO. Market opportunities, new guilds, taking advantage of mechanics before they get nerfed, etc.

How does this game run compared to a couple of closed beta tests ago? It was really sluggish for me and i would hate to buy it and it runs like crap.

I have:
i5 2500k 3.3ghz
gtx 680 2gb
16gb ram

All my specs are worse than this, and the game works great for me. I'd check to see if the issue is an Nvidia specific problem, though.

soul shards showing on map is a complete game changer. is there a minimap addon or scrolling combat text adon by any chance?

Yep. The first month or two are always the most fun for a multiplayer game because it's the most populated it (usually) is for a while, no one's mastered everything yet, and there's still a lot of room for discovery. There's the beautiful energy and chaos that slips away over time as everything becomes a known quantity.

Trying to play an MMO years later sucks, because people have expectations about how you'll play to min/max everything, or play a class, etc.

its ridiculous how much im dying on my templar compared to my sorceror >_>

edit: is it me or does the soulshard mod only doesnt count previous picked up shards? im at a unclaimed spot in the map but I already got it before the mod, yet the mark says theres a unclaimed there

Well i mean to be fair i was playing during a beta so it was entirely possible it wasn't completely optimized. I just havent had the time to play the most recent beta tests so i wasnt sure exactly how it would run for me since i havent played it in awhile.

LOL, see I knew it just wasn't because I'm terribad. In the early levels my melee templar did like no damage to anything so I got hit a lot. While sorcerors would just fly by 1-2 shotting everything, lol.

Correct it doesn't. I think they have a command to fix that though. I remember seeing it on the download page.

However, as a fan of the Elder Scrolls, I'm impressed by the game. I've invested about 20 hours of gameplay between the beta and early release, and I just keep coming back for more. The lore has always fueled my desire to explore Tamriel since playing Oblivion.

Also, since Oblivion, I'm hellbent on crafting and maxing out my gear, which goes along with the exploration aspect of the game. The combat isn't significantly better or worse than Skyrim, but it's different. It's solid, given that there isn't a physics-based combat system in place. I will say archery is somewhat of a disappointment. I have usually played other games as a 1-hand, sword and shield Redguard. So, far I'm having fun.

I just got my physical copy of the Imperial Edition and this thing is both huge and gorgeous, seriously impressed with it. The statue seems to be of good quality and the Imperial guide is beautiful, seriously amazing book.

On another note, i'll be logging on soon if there's still people who want in on the EU guild if they're not already in there, hit me up.

When can we expect the reviews to hit, you think?

Here is my review for ACG. Link
If you don't like my reviews I can sum it up.
I rated it a Buy which is just so surprising to me because the game just kept improving by leaps and bounds. I was not expecting it to get so much better in such a short timeframe.
Its got its issues, clipping, collision detections, wonkiness at times, but it has some stunning quests, great exploration, ran rock solid, boatloads of content and is worth at least the price of admission.

I am going to continue playing and revisit the review weekly for any needed changes but I went from laughing out loud at how bad it was to being mightly impressed in a short time.

hey guys, why doesn't my game go fullscreen? It is technically fullscreen but my taskbar is still visible, not sure what i should do or if its the way it runs. Playing at 1920x1080

I'm doing something wrong, I swear it took hours to go from lvl 9 to 10

How do you increase storage in the game?

There's bag slot vendors in Major cities. Sometimes in the same building as the bank but sometimes not. On the map when you mouse over the city areas you should get a name marked with a bag\sac icon. That's the bag slot vendor. Believe its 200g for 10 more slots then 2000g for the next 10 if I remember right.

hahahaha. Ok man. I remember one time it did that but switching back and forth from Max to full fixed it. I don't know.

no worries, thanks for the help mate, I will do as you did and hopefully it gets fixed. Surely it's strange, though

I alone spent about 7 hours in the game on all three factions.
It is a boring mess of messes.

My friends who i got beta invites quit after 1 hour and laughed how something like this could be made.

thr 5 slots is bumming me more and more, not to pile on the issue. But with the whole magic and stamina system, you really want to have 1 or 2 stamina moves on top of your class magic spells, and 5 slots is just not enough.

8 would be good, you can have a couple weapon, and a couple of 2 different class specs, or even all of some class spec or something.

5 doesnt let you do anything. the more I play the more this is annoying me (this was bothering me on the sorceror and its the same if not worse on the templar).

Switching weapons might help a bit, but then you need to use the same weapons on both slots if you just want an extended bar, and you wont have the exact same weapons, etc. I just see no point in only having 5 slots, this isnt diablo, a mmo is a different beast from a arpg

I was about to buy today. I decided to drop in this thread first.... glad I did.

Those quotes in the OP. Damnnn.

It definitely will.

It makes the game more interesting, imo. I'm sure they tweaked the # in development. The more skills you have available makes there be less builds that are 'viable'. Idk, I'm really exciting to start playing around with different builds. And you basically have "8" skills. Fast attack, power attack, 5 skills, and ultimate. And all of those can change when you switch weapons (I believe there is no cooldown too).

Speaking of builds, how does leveling up weapons work at higher levels? If I ignore Resto staff while I level, but want to add it when I'm higher level, will it level relatively fast because of higher XP gains in later game?

Those are quotes from the beta. The reception at launch has been MUCH more positive. I did a beta weekend and found it quite boring, but I'm really enjoying it now.

If the idea of questing with buddies (or killing them) in Skyrim sounds appealing, you'll probably like it. They've MMO-ified some stuff, but I really like it. The leveling processing is quite fun.

err hitting the mouse button or holding it down are not skills at all, come on. If you could slot a weapon spell into the left and right mouse buttons, THEN it would be. I cant even argue with this type of defense force, Im sorry

and no, 5 slots doesnt mean more builds. if you could use more spells you would still have a ton of possible builds between the 3 class specs and the 6 weapons. all this does is completely limit what you can do in a game that has spells from both your class AND your weapons

those quotes are ridiculous and completely overblown. Im not saying this is the greatest game or mmo ever (as my last 3 posts show) but those quotes are just... I dont even understand why they are in the OP, its just typical troll quotes. are they there ironically?

That's why I put it in quotes man, jeez. Considering if you compare it to GW2, one of you skills is always just a spammable weapon attack, it's really not that far off.

Also, consoles. It's a console MMO.

edit: also, just to clarify my builds comment. if you have 3 spells to choose from, and you can pick 2, and all three spells play well together, you basically have 3 different viable builds ( 3 choose 2). If you could pick all 3, you'd have 1 build.

Yeah, I put them in the OP for laughs, and left them there because I figured people would read the thread and see the game had its merits. Probably going to edit the OP in the near future.

The embargo lifted last night at midnight (ET). But they encouraged reviewers to put up reviews after the embargo was lifted because it's a huge MMO and can't be adequately covered in the few days prior to the full launch.

I put up a "pre-review review" for my site last night. I fully plan on returning to it later for a more "final" review score but this felt appropriate to do for the time I had already spent with the game.

A good test to see if people are reading:)
