what exactly are your settings? That can't be all on max, can it?
 
Yeah, the only difference I'm noticing is the detail moss on street corners and rocks. Everything else is a marginal bump in resolution.

That would suck.

It's 3 freakin' GB I expect a jaw dropping rise. It's like half the full game!
 
I've been looking through the textures updated with the high res pack. Most textures have been improved but they left the effects folder alone for the most part. Textures that were updated are only doubled in resolution. Smoke, webs, impactdecals, and water were basically left untouched so I guess there is still a use for my mods.
 
WOW lol. That doesn't change much. Either their assets aren't too great, or they're trying to aim for a middle ground with higher performance (not really the point with a texture pack.)

I remember when Qarl's Texture Pack came out for Oblivion. That blew the original assets straight out of the water. Refresher:

Just got the Creation Kit.

Gonna finally be making some custom weapons and armor now (didn't want to deal with the bootleg method of getting them in game). Good times.
 
yeah nexus mod manager is showing checks in both boxes. thanks. You can tell a difference when playing though not a huge one. That shot doesn't look that great so I'm wondering if am saving it incorrectly in irfanview.
 
Quarl was pretty bad IMO. Bump and sharpening doesn't make textures look better. Not to mention the occasional inverted normal maps that didn't even match the diffuse...

Sure, but that was FIVE YEARS AGO and it was just ONE guy. I can easily forgive the flaws, though I would say it's generally a large improvement.

With a whole team of artists, a new engine, and half a decade of learning, Bethesda really would have zero excuses. I think it's more that they're trying not to destroy performance and let everyone enjoy, but should that really be the point? No, let people enjoy who have the rigs to run it. Skyrim's efficient enough as is.

Ok so I fixed this. I unchecked them from my launcher, went in, made a new save with them off, quit, checked them on, and now all of my textures are fine now.
 
I'm going to test it now. Also, Skyrim workshop mods are finally coming out and downloading. Use the launcher to download subscribed mods.
 
It's a pity my mod post will be lost among all this chaos.

Here are a couple of other cool mods.

Dead Tree Replacer - if you want to make your skyrim seem more 'lush' and alive rather than the dead drab cold dark place it is. I don't use this, I like the way Skyrim feels.

Guard's Wear Different Armor - This one is also an essential IMO, this makes all the guards wear different armor. In vanilla it just feels like all the guards around the world are just clones of one another, this makes all the guards different and wear different outfits depending on where they come from. It's really good and feels more immersive. ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE!!!

Oh man. So I installed the Space Core mod as a test and I exit Whiterun and I am simply running around and suddenly I hear,
"SSSSSSSPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEE" coming from above me and then a crash. There was a trail of smoke leading to a burnt building and there he was, landed in the fireplace.
You can pick him up and that is about it but he totally has all the lines from Portal 2.

So good.

I gave up trying to use a UK server to download the texture pack. I was forced to use a US one on the end. Their servers must be getting really hammered.
 
So will I be able to use the Steamworkshop alongside Mod Manager or is that defeating the purpose?

God I'm a noob when it comes to this. :p
 
I'm on a Core 2 Quad Q9450 3.2GHz and AMD 4870 512MB with 8GB of RAM, and, compared to vanilla Skyrim, Open Cities gives a moderate FPS hit. A superior machine would see minimal impact on performance, I think.

What do they say? At it's essence, the game is a buggy POS and Bethesda should be ASHAMED for releasing it the way they did, but thanks to the modding community it has been transformed into something incredibly amazing for me. So I can probably understand what everyone thinks... I don't think I'd be really that into the game if I was just playing vanilla.

I'n going to get Bethesdas hi-res pack, Skyrim 2K HD is disgusting and efs up performance. There are too many questionable Textures in Skyrim HD, stone buildings and stone slabs look horrible especially.
 
I can't get the Portal mod to work...it gives me this message about archive size being bigger than the entire mod and it may be corrupt.

Being buggy is one thing, but most of the mods that catch public attention outside of Skyboost haven't done much to change anything fundamental or sweeping and are more out of novelty. The rest of the bulk of them seem to be aesthetic mods and ones that are modding for modding's sake. Whether the game was buggy or not to begin with doesn't seem to have conflicted with the mods that would have came out regardless.
 
I heard the robot from the space mod but can't find him..

I feel that the texture mod is pretty awesome. The game looks a lot better now. Up close its not stunning but it's pretty awesome!
 
Pretty excited about the CK launching and the Workshop going up. I haven't played Skyrim in a while, so I think I'm actually gonna start a new game after a few big mods are up on Workshop.
 
The open world mod just about cuts my frame rate in half in Markarth. It is cool though, I like opening the door to a city, it does add to the game.
 
Anyone found a mod that disables dyanimic shadows completely at just sets a static shadow TOD? I'd like strobing gone completely. Doesn't help that shadows cast in the wrong direction at night, too.
