The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

Any Skyrim experienced mod users still about and mind giving me some advice? I'm having some trouble getting some mods to work while others seem to be working fine. For example, Skyui is broken. When loading up a game it keeps giving me the same error message even though I already did what it said should fix it (error 4 btw). Then when in game the Skyui seems to be active, but it takes several seconds to open the inventory for items and for spells. Further, the MCM is there, but is perpetually empty. I haven't gotten into the game at all really to check if everything else is broken, but it seemed like the animation replacers didn't work, nor did the flora overhaul (or at least the starting area didn't look at all changed).

just to be sure:
For flora overhaul ,if you use one of the latest versions be sure to put Imaxgrass on 6 in the ini file or it will not work.

So, I did a quick google search, and I can see that this is a long-time problem, but I was unable to find a solution to it.

I've recently started periodically getting this Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error. At first, I thought one of the mods I was messing with was at fault, but it would seem that the root of the problem actually lies with Dawnguard.

I've already had all of the unofficial patches installed in their appropriate load order 'n everything. Has this ever been addressed?
Well, I'm not sure if I found a "solution" to the problem, but after messing around with some of the graphics settings, it hasn't popped up for the last couple of days.

Convenient Horses seems to freeze my game up every now and then. It seems to be something related to the Horse Call, and Followers. After the horses have been summoned, whenever I try to move on from the immediate area—on or off the horse—I'm stuck.

Not going to uninstall it, just... going to avoid using Horse Call whenever I have Followers, I suppose.

Doesn't seem like it.

Somebody guide me through this Wyre Bash/BAIN stuff. Trying to install a patch for the Open Cities mod and I'm honestly confused. :[

Is it possible to modify magic skills to affect spell power instead of merely reducing mana cost?
I think some overhauls do this, apparently, but how?

So what's everyone sweet spot on ugrids? I have mine set at 7 and it seems to be fine. But reading up a bit it runs scripts too so I'm not sure if it's better to have it at default.

Just leave it at default or you'll be much more likely to run into crashes.

I knew it was a mistake to use NMM.
It "installed" mods, and in-game there are missing meshes and other stuff.
Ended up installing them manually, as always. Fallout/Oblivion manager did its job fine for those games but even then i preferred manual installation, much surer.

I've never had an issue with NMM. If a mod isn't correctly installed through it, reinstall it, and make sure no other mod overwrites files unless they have to.

Never encountered that problem or any problem with NMM.

Are you sure you din't accidentally overwrite some files or have mods installed that are incompatible with each other ?

Did you use BOSS ?

Which meshes/mod? You might check the page for the mod. Some of them have patches where the modder may have fucked something up. Cabal120, for example, left the Skyforge shield and bow textures out of his most recent aMidianBorn Book of Silence compilation.

Requiem. I think the program didn't extract the BSA properly/at all, for Ulfric was missing his armor (invisible aside from head and hands). Or perhaps Requiem's patch wasn't extracted properly.
The zips weren't corrupted, unzipping with WinRAR went fine.
BTW, the game crashes when clicking "Help" in menu, not sure whether this is caused by SkyUI or Requiem. Not that i actually need it, just a small annoyance.

Also, Requiem itself. Half-great, half-horrible.
Hiding information in the name of "immersion", general lack of information (e.g racial abilities and stats aren't listed anywhere, have to check each one with "showracemenu"), constant use of "..." to finish sentences, unfinished magic (only Illusion has "empowered spells ATM), makes jack of all trades characters even more impossible than in vanilla, and a lot of other smaller annoyances.
OTOH, it makes nearly all perks more useful, combat more brutal and faster, makes armors different, makes magic somewhat better (despite its unfinished state), a lot of useful and/or fun additions, general balancing.
Overall, has more things that bother me than what i like.
Which is too bad, SkyRE has even more stuff i don't like. And other overhauls... eh, most are not holistic, they stick to one area only/most, and combining many doesn't lead to good results, ever, not in my experience.

Overhauls tend to conflict with a lot of different stuff, too. One of the reasons why I don't use them.

I don't need more armors, items, or spells (though they should be a tad better, scale with skill or some such). I don't need more monsters (though AI enhancing mod is welcome). I don't need "better" dragons. I don't need more quests. I don't need better horses (i don't use them). I don't need better followers (i can't stand them). I don't need new places, i still haven't explored all of vanilla Skyrim, nor Dawnguard nor Dragonborn. I don't need better graphics. Most certainly i don't need vanity stuff (animations, hairpacks, etc.).

All i need is an overhaul (on top of unofficial patches) that balances (read: makes them more fun and useful, actual balance be damned) perks and skills, and gameplay to some extent (faster combat, harder sneaking, better magic). And preferably doesn't do anything else. Or need any other mods or SKSE or SkyUI or anything else.
And it has to do all of these, combining a stealth overhaul, magic overhaul and combat overhaul is likely to cause issues.

But i can't find what i look for, so it looks like i'll have to make my own. I've played vanilla Skyrim long enough i don't want to do that anymore.
At least modifying vampires to suit my tastes is easy enough. Not so sure about werewolves.

So... anyone know why Wyre Smash is randomly assigning orders for me? I select everything and then "Move to..." -> "0" but instead of assigning everything to order by name, it just gives random numbers instead. Here is what my WS page looks like:

And here's what the example from the S.T.E.P. guide looks like:

wb_figure10bzjlf.jpg

What gives? Am I just going to have to manually assign all of the orders myself?

So is it possible to enable AA when usng ENB? I installed one a while ago, but while it looked striking, the framerate took a pretty big hit, and the jaggies were pretty nasty.

You purposefully ordering installers? Only ESPs need to be ordered AFAIK.
For that, use BOSS.

Installer order determines which files get overwritten if there's a conflict though.

Nothing wrong with manually ordering them. You probably don't want to install all of them in one go anyway, you'll want to do a few at a time and make sure the game still works before moving on.

Yeah, just doing them manually. You have to go through each one to check for skipped files and make sure that conflicts are going to resolve properly anyway, so it's not too much extra work.

About halfway through S.T.E.P. now, so far so good.

You can use MSAA but it will disable a majority of ENB's effects such as SSAO. The newer versions have a variety of post-process AA options which are a bit of a step up from standard 1xSMAA, and definitely an improvement over FXAA. That and downsampling.

Hmm, ok then. I guess the in-built AA must've been disabled for some reason. I'll try it again some time and see if it looks any better.

On the subject of ENB, I'm using it in New Vegas, and for some reason, whenever I zoom in with ironsights or whatever, the shadows either disappear or flicker. Is this fixable?

I figure this is a good a place as any to ask. I was going through STEP and didn't get very far. Optimized the textures following there guide and now I have 7 archive files for the textures and absolutely no idea how to make them work. The guide isn't doing much in the way of helping me. Anyone have any information that may help?

Through secret connections (lol) on the nexus . i have more high res Hair models not available on that site .

it is called SG Hair .

Damn. I spent HOURS fixing mods and playing Skyrim and now my harddrive is acting up so I can't play the game. Can I somehow just transfer the files from my Steam app to a new installment on a different harddrive and the mods will work? Or do I have to install them all again? If that's the case I'm done with this game...

You tried using steam mover?

http://www.traynier.com/software/steammover

Will allow you to move any steam game to a separate hard drive without impacting steam

I keep Steam installed mainly on a separate hard drive as I'm using an SSD, but with certain titles I have used Steam mover to transfer them temporarily to the SSD for the faster load up. Works with Origin as well.

I could try that, but I'm afraid something else might be wrong too. I tried to change the Skyrim.ini file to improve the graphics, but instead all the mods stopped working, my controller wasn't activated and as a result I couldn't even start the game.

Recommended mods for an archery-based hunter RP?

I've got Hunterborn, Realistic Needs and Diseases, Camping Kit of the Northern Ranger, Arrows and Bolts Tweaks, Better Eagle Eye, Duel - Combat Realism...

Any more suggestions?

Frostfall, if you don't have it already. Proper Aiming also works great, though it could be one of those other mods you mentioned has the same effect.

Is Frostfall compatible with Camping Kit of the Northern Ranger? I like the idea of hypothermia survival but I was of the impression Frostfall makes you build every last bit of your camp from scratch, while CKotNR lets you pull it all out of a box indefinitely.

I think it is, it should say on the Frostfall website.

Trying to get Immersive Armor and Weapons to work with Skyre. I ran reproc and created the patch but my modded gear is still weak. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

For my next playthrough I'll probably reinstall the game and re-apply my mods, because I'm getting a bit tired of having to manually sort everything because BOSS doesn't work. Also probably going to look into creating a bash patch for Morrowloot and Immersive Armors, so I don't run across two versions of the same legendary sword.

Requiem is kicking my ass.

Funny story. I take on the quest to retrieve the Dibella statue belonging to the shopkeep at Arnleif and Sons with my Khajiit archer. It's in Red Eagle Redoubt, of all places - several distinct areas of the Reach filled to the brim with Forsworn archers who will one shot me from a mile away and make the Anor Londo archers look like amateurs. Stealth is so nerfed that it doesn't help. All I can do is creep along behind rocks and take potshots once I've found a position where the enemy can't reliably aim for me. So anyway, I spend about 2 hours clearing out this whole area - I die about 30+ times. When I kill the Briarheart at the top of the tower I feel a massive sense of accomplishment - never thought Skyrim would make me feel like Dark Souls but there you go. So I proceed to the map marker designating the location of the statue...and it's in a chest. An adept-level chest that I couldn't unlock even if I tried. All that effort, all those deaths for a quest objective I can't even fulfill at the level I'm at. And that's basically Requiem in a nutshell.

Kinda soured on that particular method of combat so I rerolled to an Orc using heavy armor and two-handers. He's a beast:

Honestly I can't see myself playing Requiem any other way. The mod just wasn't designed for thieves or mages, at least not until the upper levels.

It ain't for magi because its magic features are incomplete. Only Illusion has proper overhaul so far.
Thieves? While it has nerfed stealth playstyle, i'd imagine it is still competitive, perhaps requiring a bit more work and perks though.
(Remember that in base game one rank of stealth skill and muffle boots are practically all you need for sneaking, perhaps assassination perks and DB gauntlets for boosting sneak attacks, and taking any other stealth perks makes stealth incredibly overpowered)

I caved on the xmas steamsale and got skyrim again. What mods do you guys recommend? I'm on an i5 3400, 8GB, GT650 ti 2gb, playing in 1920x1080.

Some mods I can never play Skyrim without again after playing vanilla on console for years:

SkyUI (better menu optimized for PC)

Quality World Map (adds roads to world map)

RaceMenu (adds bevy of color and customization options - has several modules that introduce more facial morphs)

Static Mesh Improvement Mod or SMIM (improves the meshes of dozens of every day items in Skyrim that you never realized look like ass until SMIM pointed it out to you)

Alternate Start - Live Another Life (lets you select from several alternate origins for your character, thereby skipping the annoying Helgen intro. You can still choose that origin if you're a masochist)

Realistic Needs and Diseases (gives purpose to the hundreds of food and drink items in Skyrim - also makes diseases something to be feared)

I'm almost done with Skyrim for a good long while, but the biggest bummer that I've come across has been my inability to switch from UFO (ultimate follower overhaul) to AFT (Amazing follower tweeks). AFT has a ton more options and seems to be more appetizing, but after clean uninstalls of UFO an installing AFT, many of my followers are stuck in states of thinking they're following, but with non-follower AI. It's a shame, ultimately I wish UFO was still being supported but, cest' la vie.

Cross-posting in OT and mod discussion...

Anyone lose this texture before? I think it's referred to as "cavesnowtrim" or something to that effect. I have two mods currently active that effect cave textures - Amidianborn caves and 2k dungeons. I've tried uninstalling one or the other, letting each override the other, and uninstalling both but in every instance this particular texture is gone. Any way to fix this, outside of doing a totally clean install?
