Bah, I caved and pre-ordered the hardcover strategy guide for no real reason other than to have it around. If nothing else, it'll look pretty.

Kind of considering it.. I know I'll never use it though :(

I've had New Vegas on my shelf for a LONG fucking time. Y'all just convinced me to pop it in to kill time until Skryim. I'll be back with impressions in a couple hours. Any tips for someone whose about to start the game for the first time?

Should probably move that to the NV thread. I love talking about it more than anyone, but not here.

this is so true for me, a friend told me to get fallout 3 so i took his advice and moved away from COD for a bit and was hooked. Had big hopes for NV but something didn't feel right, i didn't feel that fallout 3 atmosphere in new vegas.
i completed it, it was good but i didnt have any urge to carry on exploring or anything so i left it there.

Seems to be what you deem most important. F3 had the atmosphere and exploration, NV had the quest design and writing. I preferred F3 too.

I've said it before, but I'd really like to see Bethesda and Obsidian collaborate for F4.

I'm done with classes at 11:20 and I don't have to work till 6:00.

Somehow, I don't think 6 hours will be enough time :/

Just got this awesome mask from a super hard dude. I would so use it if I was a sneaky character. Also unlocked a new word for my shouts at the same spot.

The way I stumbled across it was totally by accident. I used a certain skill in a certain place, five minutes later I got a letter from a courier telling me that they saw what I did and they had some information that may be useful.

Totally didn't have to use the skill in that location, but I did, and now I have a kickass mask and I new word.

Love. This. Game.

If mods can do this kind of thing...why can't the guys being paid to make the game do this to start with?

Because consoles.

I think modders have been hired before, but the problem is the hardware.

I think it has more to do with the PC. How many people have super high end PC's? I think they want to make the PC version available to as many people as possible.

Should be fine.

Dammit, why do I have to wait 'til thursday. I need some distraction.

Hell thats why I'm getting MW3 to pass the time as all my buddies will be online playing but I know what you mean. I've got Arkham City still to beat but I can't get back in to it with Skyrim so close.

Can't wait for this game. My body is ready.

As far as strategy guides go, I seldom use them, but I have to admit they can be pretty useful in the Elder Scrolls games for deciding how to create a character, or deciding what major/minor skills to focus on. But I've been on such a blackout for this game, I'm not even sure character creation is handled the same way it was in past games. That said, I'll still go in blind. I think I have a pretty good handle on how to play this series by now, so a start guide is probably not worth it for me.

If you join up to a guild (like the Companions, who are the equivalent of the Fighter's Guild) you can store stuff in the chests in the guild sleeping quarters.

Same here, currently I've got 15 quests open ^_^

The only major city I've been to is Whiterun (but that's about to change), which only has one house to buy as far as I can tell. Also, before I could buy it I had to
be named a 'Thane' of the city by doing a bunch of quests for the Jarl of the city
. The stats page indicates that there's businesses you can invest in too.

As soon as I find some more houses for sale I'll take some photos for you.

Thanks for the information, man, I appreciate it. I figured you would have do that thing first before you got the house, similar to most of the houses in Oblivion. Can't wait to see more houses!

Pretty disingenuous to suggest that Bethesda is going with the platform parity line due to caring about PC gamers so much. It's a concession to limited development resources after taking into account platform-specific sales expectations and ROI.

Exactly. If BethSoft cared about PC gamers, they'd offer a ton of PC-centric features and optimizations, ala Witcher 2/Crysis 2. As it stands, BethSoft KNOWS PC gamers will buy the game so they're going to release it as a 'just good enough' console port. Here's hoping they do a somewhat decent job on the PC interface, though.

Haha, that's what I've been doing. Mostly just to create characters and think about what I actually want to do first in Skyrim. I still can't decide.

This or Zelda. This or Zelda. This or Zelda!!!???

As much of a The Legend of Zelda fan I am, I would easily suggest picking up The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim first.

If you can, somehow... get both, but by getting Skyrim first, you've got 300+ hours of gameplay and then you can get Skyward Sword.

Skyrim and then wait for a Dolphin or WiiU version of Zelda.

Fixed :-o

I probably won't get this shipped until the 14/15th and that's when my gf will be monopolizing the TV with assassin's creed argh choices!

I agree. Although I'm confident I will very much enjoy Skyrim, past Elder Scrolls games were at the forefront in terms of visual quality.

Does anyone remember when Morrowind came out? You had to upgrade your PC and even then the game was not near being maxed out.

So I managed to play a few hours on a friend's copy, and it was awesome.
Since I already planned playing as a Nord battlemage with my copy, I instead opted for a High Elf pure caster (with a mace thrown in). I have to say: the magic is awesome. Using both flames and lightning together gave me the greatest feeling ever. I unlocked the perk for destruction duel-casting, where if you fire the same spell with both hands, your hands will form into a "hadouken" like formation and the spell will converge and create a bigger one (for example: using the flames spell duel casting, it basically shot a maelstrom of fire in a straight line - much more intimidating than the regular flames spell). For the record, duel-casting without the perk just has both hands shooting the same spell towards the reticule, which is the same as duel-casting two different destruction spells (with or without the perk - no combining a stream of fire and electricity as far as I'm concerned)
I didn't want to spoil the main quest for myself (aside from the opening), so after the intro, I headed to the nearest dungeon I could find - which was a mine. Despite being a small one, I could tell you right now that the dungeons of Skyrim are already more visually diverse than in Oblivion. Not much loot, but I killed my first Orc bandit in here, whose model I thought looked pretty awesome.
whilst on my journeys, I ran into a Thalmor patrol escorting a religious prisoner. I didn't really know what they were, aside from being High Elves, so I asked the leader. He explained a bit to me, then promptly randomly attacked me. I whipped out the spells and burned/electrocuted them all to death. Funnily enough, the leader begged for his life, but I accidentally killed him before I could spare him (just to see if anything would change).
Also, regarding companions:
I recruited a Wood Elf after doing a quest for him. I'm pretty sure this was the same elf that some site recruited during their preview of Skyrim. But here's the thing: the site said that companions were invincible, and could only go unconscious, but my companion clearly died. I'm not sure if it was due to friendly fire or not (I was spewing flames everywhere), but he definitely kicked the bucket.
Man I'm excited for Thursday now.

this makes no sense. Skyrim will only get better with GOTY versions, Bethesda games are a mess at launch. Skyward Sword will deliver day 1.

You can say the same thing about Skyward being vastly better in the inevitable WiiU release or at the very least on Dolphin on the pc.

For many people, Elder Scrolls deliver day 1, even with the bugs.

right, but one of the two games will be perfect and the other one will get better over time. so take the one that will not have a GOTY version in a couple of months.

there is no such thing as a perfect game.

WiiU release of a single player game that requires wii motion+? How would that even work?

As it has been said already, no it will not be perfect on day 1. It won't even be in HD until people get it working on Dolphin.

I know what you mean, but it would be around 1 - 1.5 years before Skyrim will get a goty version (going on previous Bethesda titles). I personally wouldn't be able to wait that long, I don't have that sort of willpower. Perhaps people not as hyped about it as I could though.
