RE: pack states

If you want better performance and are familiar with your bios, try this. Set CE1 state on, and the other CPU settings say c-3 and c-6. I was getting BSOD's after going to c-2 and c-7. FPS has jumped everywhere in the game even with mods like water. I will take 1 screen to illustrate. Back in 5.

Was getting 46fps without the bios change, now 58

Before bios,29-30, after alt, 38.

I think I'm gonna bump shadows back up to 4000 since I lowered them to save performance. I'm pretty happy to say the least because my BSOD issues are solved above all else.

Exactly what settings do you change? And to what? I'd like to try this right now.

In your bios, under the OC portion there should be a CE1 enable/disable option, have that on. In the CPU section of the bios (separate area from OC area), there should be pack state settings for c3 and another to enable c-1,c-,c-6,or c-7. Make sure the first option says c-3 and the next option, set that to c-6. It handles processes better. I used to have it like this but changed it after my bios reset during a storm. Now I remember having these settings and like I said, performance is definitely improved, it's not placebo.

Boobphysics was very patient with me last night after I crashed like 8 times trying to fix this and just figured it out this morning. I knew it had something to do with the CPU bios settings. I was just too tired at that point to mess with it.

I've had a recent fps drop everywhere after about 90 hours of playtime. :\
It was just occasional drop at first, but now it's almost costant now (especially in the open).
Tried to put everything on low, but it doesn't really changes anything.

It used to do it just around Riften when i started the game, i didn't change anything lately (i modded the game even before starting it up the first time, so i don't think mods are the problem here).

i5(non 2500k), HD5850, 4GB ram.

I've installed the latest 11.11 Ati drivers now, still nothing. :(
I'm not a 60fps-obsessed or anything, but it's unplayable right now.

Man i may have been unlucky with the game, but i do feel like a fucking beta tester, always with an eye out for bug fixes and shit.. i broke my rule to wait a while to get a Bethesda game.

Guys do you know if we will ever be able to use the FXAA post process injector in the Mod Manager? I ask because I want to be able to turn that off simply if I run into any problems. Does uninstalling the fxaa post process injector return your game back to vanilla state or is there a key (pause/break) that you can use that turns it off in game?

Regarding the earlier talk about BSODs, an important thing to note is that if you experience a BSOD it's basically impossible that it's the fault of the game. It means that your hardware is unstable. If you're overclocking try reducing your clock rates and if not then check your cooling.

All settings Ultra, 8xMSAA, High Res water, Enhanced Shaders etc. No crashes so far, consistent 30 fps outdoors.

U jelly GAF?

Nope. Can't stand 30 fps. How a rig as nice as yours can't run this game at 60fps is beyond me.

But I am thinking it may be worth it to install the game on my SSD. uGrids 9 takes a long time to load.

Highly recommended; Skyrim with split second loads is awesome. Fast travel to sell all your stuff is so much easier.

We're you overclocking? That smells like an unstable OC, rather than a standard performance boost. If I recall correctly C1E, and the like, are just voltage and/or clock stepping functions for power savings.

This.

Pause will turn it off in real time, and yes you can just delete the files to get rid of the FXAA.

I got it in the OP already. Had it about 3-4 days ago, worth it!
My layout is simpler ;)

Wanna know what kind of mods will be released? For Oblivion, someone made a full functional dragon mod. You could ride dragons and everything. Dragons were never part of the game (at least as far as I can remember). People also made their own houses and underwater buildings.

Got fed up with my level 32 mage doing piddly damage with destruction spells (92 destruction skill).

So I started a 2h light armor barbarian, bumped difficulty up to max and will do a perma death run.

What's a perma death run?

This.
No, in my case it was definitely the bios reset that had my settings differently. This OC has been tested in prime 95, intel burn test, memtests, I've done it all. Both GPU and CPU OC's have been stable for months. It was the pack states that were c2 and c7 that fixed things. Now, they are c-3 and c-6.

AND anyone else get a patch just now?

That reminds me, I want a mod that means I can do Sneak Attack damage with spells. My build was basically a stealthy mage and this really fucked me over.
Or alteast give me some bonus effects from casting from stealth, like stagger, slow or something.

My game size is still the same so I don't know if this was a patch to take you to that news page or what. Performance is the same so............

For being this small, maybe it's not a huge update.

hmm weird, might be imagining things lol

It's never to late to change. No such thing as a 'build'.

Just start using daggers more.

I should try going back to 8xMSAA as I'm running 4x Adaptive MSAA right now. Bleh, back to looking.

Hardly a difference. I tried 4xSSAA and 8xMSAA and still feels the same as before. Although it does feel smoother like even when it says 38 sometimes it just doesn't feel like that. It feels a little smoother now but I don't know if I'm just seeing things.

Yeah, I don't really know why they took this out. I'm playing pure mage but I still sometimes sneak up on enemies, and it would be nice (and make sense) to get a damage boost for catching them unaware.

I'm sure it will happen shortly after the kit is released.

Bethsoft forums are claiming the "patch" fucks up your game if you have the LAA ram fix applied. I'm staying away from Steam, running tesv.exe straight from the folder until I know what's going on.

I'd actually argue that there's more of a "build" than in most Elder Scrolls games (and I like that). Perks have a very strong impact on the effectiveness of skills, and it's impossible to get all of them (or even close to that).

It's by no means impossible. Would just take time. As far as I'm aware anyway.

The Nexus Mod Manager is great but crashes a LOT...

I was just gonna ask this. How about repatching it? Like maybe the game DL'd a new exe?

I can't confirm that is messes up your game, but there's a few posts there claiming they can't start the game at all now. Doing a backup of my .exe just in case.

EDIT: The download is a new .exe file. Exactly the same size as the original .exe

EDIT 2: Seems like the "patch" is a new .exe that prevents you from running the game without having Steam open. Also prevents the FAA patch from being applied, but I can't confirm this.

Try to patch it, just checked teh forum and the guys say you cant patch the Exe anymore without Steam complaining

From what I've gathered it has something to do with being able to play Skyrim without going through Steam, something they have apparently corrected now.

Yep. No more 4gb patch or anything else. Gives the usual steam 'encrypted' error if you patch it, and try to play.

Surely with steam you could delete the .exe (or maybe rename/backup). Then use the 'validate files' option to have it re-download it.
Should work.

Via the forum "The only changed file was TESV.exe"

So try repatching it as it seems to have been replaced. This is good for me since I forgot to back up my old one. I'm gonna try the LAA fix again now and double check.

If it makes a difference, post update, I can boot up so let me test just to confirm the beth forums rants.

I just tried it, no problems (I have LAA applied)

I can't confirm any stability/performance improvements since both were perfectly fine for me :P

Well if this patch improves performance at all then I'll find out soon. I saved when my new character was right outside of Markarth which is a huge framerate killer for me.

edit: well cancel that, just saw the above posts.

It's actually by all means impossible (well, all legitimate in-game means). If you get every skill to 100 you are at maximum level, but you still haven't got nearly enough perk points to get all of them.

Fuck LAA isn't working for me now. :/

Patches it fine but Steam doesn't want to run it. Gives me an error code 51. I tried removing LAA and it ran fine.

*groan*
