I don't think I've ever backed something so fast in my life.





The digital archive alone is worth it (getting all 250+ issues of EGM) but this book looks fantastic and is hitting a lot of stretch goals already. Looks like they got a great confirmed contributor list too:

I have a ton of EGM magazines, EGM2 too. Decent mag, but Diehard Gamefan shat on it from great heights.
Ed Semrad's review were always 2 points higher than the average from the other 3 guys.

I had issues 60-200 or so. Dumped them when I moved because it's just too much and too heavy to lug around. Wish I hadn't, so definitely to have them all back even if it's digital.

I was always a subscriber to PSM and then I switched to OPM for the maturity appeal and the demo discs. Its good having a throwback and history of the gaming mags fron that era.

Backed for a digital copy. I'd love the hardback, but I don't live in the US or Canada so the shipping would make this way too expensive. Also, I'm already in trouble as it is with game-related hardbacks if (when) I'll move again.

EGM was never big here, but I did buy some issues back in the day. I'm curious to delve into that digital archive.

Backed the $75 version. Loved EGM back in the day, to me it was an exotic American magazine sometimes featuring games months in advance of what we got over here :messenger_beaming:

And look at the dollar sign printed on the cover, zip codes, what are they? The silly things we notice when we're kids!

Wooowwwwww, the main book looks great, but they're including a digital copy of every EGM issue ever.

That is amazing. I still go back and flip through old issues every now and then, and have actually bought some back issues over the years that I never got. It's surprisingly fun to read about games from those eras with whatever the prevailing perspective at that point in time was.

I am completely sold.

I went digging because I had "reader reviews" published in 3 separate issues back when they still did that. I remember getting a new issue with my Grandma, opening it up in the car and freaking out seeing my name. My OFFICIAL EGM Reviews were for:

South Park 64
Turok 2
Blue Stinger
NFL2K
Tomb Raider 3
Hydro Thunder

The $75 tier includes digital website access, but you can actually get it as an $10 add-on to any other tier. So I guess the cheapest option would be $25 ($15 for the digital book and $10 for the archive access).

Backed. Remember seeing these in the store and asking/begging my mother to get it which I was fortunate enough to get.

I'm thankful for the digital archive as I was one to constantly be looking at a new issue so much that I took them to school. Unfortunately that meant that at times I was outright robbed from someone going through my backpack and taking it.

One of those had been during the SNES Street Fighter II craze and that loss hurt for a long, long time.

Bought without hesitation. EGM is my favorite game mag ever. Just wish Mielke wasn’t included. The guy’s a fucking douche. I guess he’s part their history whether I like it or not though.

Read it religiously back in the day and my fave of all the gaming mags (also read Gamefan, GamePro, OPM etc), still the best review system with originally 4 members reviewing a game (later turned to 3) so you get multiple perspectives. Shout-out to the homie Sushi-X, if you know you know.

Out of curiosity, what did he do? He strikes me as someone who probably went off the rails around 2016, but I liked his stuff from back in the day. Especially that guide to importing games from like... 1998. That was pretty eye-opening stuff for me, so I can't hate on the guy too much.

I'm sure there is something specific out there, but he's always been a bit of douche just following him online. Also, when a bunch of them left, a handful of EGM/1UP editors had some less than stellar things to say about him on the 1UP boards. I don't have anything in the way of specifics because it's been 15 years or so.

I remember him being pretty shitty to people on Twitter and game forums back in the day too. Just always came off like a pompous/pretentious dickhead. Also, when he took over as editor in chief of EGM, it became a magazine dedicated to his interests and interviewing his game industry friends. At least that’s how I remember the issues I read.

No you're definitely right. It was a huge step down, he was in over his head. He always just struck me as a wanabe edgy internet poster who failed upward time and time again.

I remember reading EGM as a kid in middle school. Id bring my mag to school and my friends debated whether to get a GameCube, Xbox or ps2.

They gave reviews for all 3 consoles. I ultimately went with Xbox. But by 2009 i had all 3. 360, wii, and ps3.

Lots of great memories. I learned about so many games thanks to egm and official Xbox magazine.
