"The End of Men And the Rise of Women"

The article is spot on, that book is ridiculous and bluntly ignorant in so many layered levels that it looks like a wedding cake of idiocy:

- Somebody quick send a memo of "the rise of woman" to Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and every western low income household, too
- Female political leadership has an historic record of being as horrible as men's. But in order to know that, you need to know history first, go figure.
- Falls into the old trap of "women surpassing man by using traits percieved to be male"
- Ignores about every single modern study about the differences between male and female brains, clings to stereotypes of men as "phisically superior yet intelectually inferior brutes"
- A feminist claiming for the superiority of women over man rather than their equality and even carrying it over to her own son. I am so surprised, oh wait, actually, no, I am not.

This shit again?

It's true to some small degree, but like almost every news article these days, it's being waaaay overblown in a cynical attempt to get a reaction out of people.

Everybody get the fuck over yourselves.

.. And they call themselfs "feminists".

What feminism is or was or should be is sure as hell a rollercoaster. I don't know what to listen to anymore - the angry feminists who yells "men are animals!" or the kind who doesn't yell and keeps fighting for an equal paygrade etc.

Oh thank god, I'm not the only one.

I don't get it. I feel pretty damn privileged. How does this relate to most, if not all societies around the globe being male orientated?

I have no idea, since i don't really live in one of them.

But i'm often told that all of the male priviliges i have are invisible to me - because i'm male. You can only see them if you are a woman. This was a play on that in case you were wondering, because it would make equal sense to assume that the end of patriarchy would be invisible to women.

Articles like this make feel like I am part of the majority, and by that I mean males who suck at school and drop out of college, even if that's not the majority. I finally fit in for once.

Edit: Dammit, the only thing I can relate to in this article is being messy.

Children suffer? Exactly how? I have two full-time working parents, and I was in day-care since I was 1 1/2 - 5,6 years old. Worked out pretty well. Was pretty rad playing with my friends every day.

Yeah, I had the same. Missed my parents, day-care SUCKS and I hope my children won't have it.

As far as I can agree that women are "rising" (and have no opposition to that), I find this article un-necessarily sexist. It's incredible how fast it goes to spew downgrading generalities toward one sex to highlight the (valid) merits of the other.

And so, a new matriarchy is emerging, run by young, ambitious, capable women
O RLY

More like a few women will rise and things will approach parity but that there is a feminist wet dream and not reality.

'End of Men'
'Demise of Guys'

These titles are a little too much. I'm all for women equality, but phrasing it as above is both innaccurate and undermines the spirit of equality.

I guess its good for generating buzz though.

Inflammatory article that exaggerates beyond belief. The demise of men has been rumored heavily over the past five years or so and it continues to be a joke now. Women want to work, raise children, and become career focused? Well, let me tell you, that sounds like a fucking blast. Have at it.

Dr. Ian Malcolm: God creates dinosaurs. God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man. Man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs.
Dr. Ellie Sattler: Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the earth.

I wonder how many real women actually think about this? Not the pseudo intellectuals that write articles like this, but real women.

Isn't this a positive?

What will control the insect population if they can't even weave a web properly?

I wonder how many real women actually think about this? Not the pseudo intellectuals that write articles like this, but real women.

Meh. People are so obsessed with what is real that they only perk up when Disney gives them the exciting theme park version of it. Bad question in my opinion.

A whole 5 years, I guess the progress of women within society will stop now that it's been a whole 5 years!! That's like what? half a decade?

This is kind of hard to follow, I guess we're responding to a person responding to a book? Or just a person?

In any case:

-Decrease in male privilege does not equal matriarchy.
-Some women being confidently independent, financially and emotionally, does not equal matriarchy.
-Some women being interested in only sex and not relationships because they feel it will get in the way of their career does not equal matriarchy.
-Some careers having more women than men does not equal matriarchy.

These are, again, signs of a Western world that is somewhat less unequal than it was.

Could there be a Western world that might be described as matriarchy one day? I don't know, maybe. It's not happening overnight, though, and none of these things are evidence of it.

And of course this completely ignores the non-western world, where most of the women in the world live.

Precisely, way too many confounding variables that might affect the young suicide rate variable.

As for this article, it's some awful matriarchal bullshit. She should be wishing for gender stereotypes to disappear, not point to them as some innate quality of women that is making them "better" than men.

To start with, anyone know what "womanly skills and traits" even are?

I haven't read the OP fully, but I can offer this in response to your question. The education/developmental psychology literature shows a pervasive difference between boys and girls in self-control which tends to translate into better school performance for girls, despite their IQs being the same or slightly lower on average. I'm not a developmental psychologist myself, so I don't know whether these differences persist into adulthood. In any case, girls have a developmental advantage during the formative years of education which contribute greatly to future life courses. This is one factor that could lead to slow but sweeping changes in society at large.

I fucking hate this kind of articles. Way to give the "uuuugh feminists suck" crew shit to work with and a small little chance for everyone to be a tiny bit more sexist.

It's interesting that this was posted because, just yesterday, I ran into a bunch of articles like this and some were looking at matters from another persepctive.

For example, with relation to committment-phobia, they were asking what's in marriage for men. It was claimed that a large portion of marriages end in divorce (I've heard 40-60%) and in 2/3 of the instances the wife starts the proceedings. However, in most cases she gets the custody of the children, house, child support and sometimes lifetime alimony.

A man who signs away years of earnings and assets into a shared pool may have to face very inequitable distribution as part of the dire consequences of divorce which he cannot do anything to avoid should his spouse want one ("no-fault" divorce). Furthermore, none of the traditional benefits of marriage truly apply anymore.

Point : Modern counterpoint
Regular sex: spousal rape
Housekeeper: working woman
Children: divorce + sole custody

I came away convinced that, in today's age, marriage is a risky proposition esp. for men. While some women may seek to shame a partner into marriage (immature, commitment-phobe, etc.), extreme caution seems warranted in the prevailing legal environment. This is a very different world from even half-century ago.

The thing about the "uuuugh feminists suck" crew is that they will find ammunition for their position anywhere, even if it's not really there. That's a feature of basically any "crew" with a strong viewpoint.

I don't think it's worth silencing anyone so that their opponents won't have more ammunition, because sufficiently motivated opponents can spin just about anything into ammunition.

Not to single you out, but the article doesn't make that many claims about the subject. It's a review of a book titled The End of Men: And The Rise of Women. The OP should probably clarify this.

We're better off if women were in power, testosterone is the source of all the world's problems. Look at the Mosou, sexual openness, honesty, none of that taboo silliness and violence is frowned upon and rarely used. But let's keep with the penis waving contests and destroy foreign nations while making sure we have a permanent underclass in our own. That works.
