The worst part is that Estonia (that's where I live) chose another one of those stupidest things ever to be televised, that Kreisiraadio song is nothing but three tired drunks singing out of their asses.

All the while there could have been a much better song from Estonia, this one.

Wow, that is indeed a million times better than those 3 morons you guys will send. The thing is though: knowing the current state of the ESC, your entry is likely going to perform better than Ice Cold Story ever would. :/

Unlikely, there are too many joke entries these days, the votes get spread too thin amongs them. A good real song is likely to succeed much better.

That's my secret plan all along. Make sure every country sends a joke to the ESC, and then make my own country send a normal song. Uhahahhaaaaaa!!!

Instigator said it earlier on: Europe (and this contest) is more of a social structure than a geographical one. Allthough I have to wonder what the hell Azerbaijan has to do with Europe.

Because everyone who is part of the European Broadcasting Union, EBU can participate.
 
Damn, I'll just make a new post about this, my network connection went down while I was editing.


I haven't listened to that many songs yet (I'll wait until the actual event...). The Finnish preliminary show had some really weak singers, I don't know how they managed to even get that far. Luckily the best band won. Teräsbetoni probably has no change of winning the whole deal, but has chance of being somewhere in top 5 if things go well. They'll get plenty of free publicity at least. The band has done much better songs, but this one is not too bad... The band is really pretty good, I don't think any other band has tried to do this whole Manowar thing with Finnish lyrics yet. It works really well, they have just the right amount of self-irony and tongue in cheekiness for it to not look too silly. You could get away much easier with English lyrics.

And the reason why the contest is held so late probaly has someting to do with the whole Kosovo situation.

Because it's not a competition until the Finnish finals. The last few years Yleisradio has ordered songs from songwriters and bands - and those are the songs that compete. The songwriters, record companies etc. then go out and find the performers. Finland has had an open contest for all, but the results haven't been that great (remember Bye Bye Baby?).

And the reason why the contest is held so late probaly has someting to do with the whole Kosovo situation.

I wish I could forget. The worst thing that happened in recent memory was they way the "experts" vetoed the popular vote when Nightwish was winning by a large margin. Their song was pretty good too. Good thing it's direct popular vote now.

Yeah, my memory was playing tricks on me... maybe it was earlier in May last year. But there were also news about how the competition may be held in some other city if Serbia can't guarantee safety because of the Kosovo situation.

Sweden was the last country to choose their participant into the contest: Charlotte Perrelli - Hero.


EDIT: I'll predict that Serbia will be strong again this year.
 
Why does GAF get all pretentious over even the fucking Eurovision Song Contest? Jesus christ, let people be silly and stupid sometimes.

The UK entry is terrible.
 
I do remember last year's GAF play-by-play discussion was pretty entertaining, so let's hope a few freak show enthusiasts will be in this thread to comment on the upcoming performances.
