The expanse - Owlcats new game announcement trailer

This is a third person shooter rpg?

These guys barely knew how to make a crpg that doesn't run like shit, missing basic functions and features, etc.

I'm supposed to trust them with this? Hell nah.

This is certainly unexpected. But...

The jump in ambition is certainly high.

Can't be worse than MindsEye

You've summoned him with your agenda driven post.

Interesting, the last telltale or whoever game focused on literally one of the worst characters, glad to see they doing something different.

I wish em luck, the Expanse and the books it's based on are great. hard sci-fi

What? I thought the show's version of Drummer was a fan favorite?
I just don't know how people could think that, she was the most insufferable girl boss, modern audience character ever.

in the early seasons she was fine but woof those last seasons she was just painful, but to be fair many characters became painful in the last season especially.

On one hand I love both Owlcat games and The Expanse books and show. The trailer I thought was damn good.

On the other hand I am a bit afraid they are biting off more than they can chew. I also wonder if combat gameplay is going to more like ME and not totally action, but it doesn't look that way. Anyways, can't wait either way.

Great book series. Didn't watch the the tv show. Don't know if it lends itself for an rpg much.
I mean the background does. You got multiple factions, alien menace, lots of politics and cool tech. All kinds of RPG possibilities. Pulling it off is who other side of the story though.

I'm glad they're trying something new. Making a TPS isn't some unattainable thing. Bioware pulled this off 20 years ago. They are doing this at the exact right time before Larian does it. Hope it pays off for them.

Actually looking at the website they are totally going for Mass Effect style game. They talk about tactical combat, cover, commander directing characters and so on.

Fuck it, I am in if there is a Kickstarter as I loved all their games since Kingmaker.

Edit: I think also you create the character as usual for their games. It's not a set character. I really shouldn't pre-order, but damn, this is a game I am now most hyped for. Miller's Pack with beta access is calling my name, lol.

Edit 2: No Kickstarter it seems but there is a preorder option.

I'm all fucking in!!!! Loved the show and this is looking good.

The studio deserves to be given achance. And stop with the "these devs can't handle it" or would you rather have the same old recycled shit over and over?

Yep, and if you think about it, BioWare pulled it off and Owlcat CRPGs are just as good or better as BioWare of old.

If you like Sci-Fi even a bit, read the books or if you don't like reading, watch the show. Books are better, but the show is still very very good.
Maybe I should actually read the books, then. Is there anything to compare it to? I assume from watching the trailer that it is a more "grounded" setting? So mostly humanity in space, no aliens, etc?

Could you imagine if Larian ditches 2 decades worth of development on some of the most complex tactical/turn based RPG systems and goes full TPS with their next game?

The second team behind The Expanse is not the same devs that worked on CRPG stuff. There are some areas where small portion of staff is busy with multiple projects, but isometric team is almost entirely divided between The Dark Heresy and RT/PF DLCs.

One thing I know for sure (you don't need to believe me on that though), a lot of The Expanse staff worked on Phantom Liberty and other games of similar caliber and the entire pipeline with this project is vastly different from current Owlcat's MO.

So yeah, I believe that they can actually pull this off.

Maybe Revelation Space, Culture or Vorkosigan series? But I kind of like The Expanse better vs all of them.

Man, this sounds excellent and really came out of nowhere for me. I was convinced they were going to go with a small "indie" project as their UE game.

Looks great, hope it turns out good. 🤞
And hope they're not on the same trajectory as Bioware, if so we only have max a decade to enjoy their games before they turn to shite. 😋

I can also confirm that Owlcat's The Expanse is based on the books, but there will be some nods to TV show here and there.

I've just ordered the box set for books 1 - 3. The mention of the "Epstein Drive" in the synopsis gave me a small chuckle, though.
