The expanse - Owlcats new game announcement trailer

Certainly a lot of projects in the pipeline for a studio that is known for a lot of jank and bugs at first.

Hopefully they succeed. I loved RT. WOTR was way too fussy and dense for me. Bounced right off of it.

This one surprised me a lot yesterday. As for the show, I've only seen the first season, I need to go back to that.

WOTR is an amazing CRPG, one of the best I have played so I definitely recommend it. And frankly most DLCs weren't particularly necessary. They are good, and a couple add to overall game, but it's mostly extra background.

As for Rogue Trader, I think with Season 1 DLC the game is fine. It's not worth waiting longer.

Seconding this. It's quite possibly the best tabletop crpg adaption there is available, second only to baldurs gate 2 and in my humble opinion a much better game than Baldurs gate 3 despite the noticable lower production values.

Genuinely if this had full voice acting I think it would have been my game of the generation, I love it that much. Have sank about 1,000 hours in. Mortismal gaming has some great WoTR content on youtube. On the higher difficulties its one of the most challenging CRPG's I've ever played, if not the hardest.

It starts out as some of the most realistic physics in a SciFi show/movie. Even the Epstein Drive which is a fusion drive that would allow infinite thrust could be possible in the future, it lets you under go an acceleration burn to the half way point of the journey, and you then flip around and decelerate for the second half. There is some more theoretical things like wormholes and other stuff later on.

But the show started out strong and brutal feeling like the Game of Thrones of space, and it's a good comparison as there are multiple factions and politics take a central roll. The first episode has a space battle with kinetic weapons where you have rail guns punching holes through ship hulls, decks, etc. If you are a SciFi fan it's absolutely worth at least starting it and seeing if you enjoy it. It's available on Amazon Prime.
I thought Amazon had pulled the first three seasons of the show not too long ago? The ones they didn't produce because of licensing.
I think they only have the seasons they produced, 4-6.

Made me check. Nah, they're all still on Prime.
I guess it must just be outside of the USA then? I have Prime in Japan and seasons 1-3 stopped being available to watch like 2 or 3 months ago. Checking now it also shows as "This title is unavailable due to expired rights." when I click on seasons 1-3. Seasons 4-6 still show just fine.

Yes, same in Australia, season 1 - 3 not available to watch, seasons 4 onwards are.

UK Prime also doesn't have 1-3.

WOTR is very good. The mythic path stuff is impressive, though I think it might have been better overall to allocate like 50% of the resources used on that to improve the universal side content, which is often lacking imo.

Looks like even the author doesn't know what's up.

More interview, nice:

so the MC is the one wearing the helmet at the back in the game's main poster and the Mc's twin will have the same face and gender. you will make both at the start of the game. and the rest are companions and characters you'll meet in the game.

Oh....another FPS shooter.

Too bad....Owlcat (Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous) was one of the few isometric RPG developers along with Obsidian (Pillars of Eternity) and Larian (Divinity Original Sin 2 and Baldur's Gate 3). Now it's down to two. Obsidian may be done with that style of game as well.

Owlcat are making a CRPG based on Warhammer (not a sequel to Rogue Trader). They are certainly not done with the genre.

And this is not an FPS, think more Mass Effect with control and command of your squad and RPG underpinning.

I don't need it. I don't need it. I don't need it.
You need it don't you?

They just announced a new CRPG, 40k: Dark Heresy.

is the show worth it?

Yeah - and I say that as someone who doesn't watch much SF and, like you, didn't find the first book interesting enough to continue.

The first 3 or 4 seasons are particularly good. After that, it slides downhill. It's unfortunate to hear that the first 3 seasons are unavailable in many parts of the world. Those are the best seasons.

I tried to watch the show and it wouldn't stick, but I hear it is a great universe.

I took me a little while to get into, because of the different factions, characters, and politics. I am watching Game of Thrones on Blu-Ray right now, and one of the nice perks of the box set is that you can pull up brief character bios, location information, and history any time you like. It makes it much easier to understand who's who and what's going on. I wish all shows had something like that. I'm often left scratching my head in the first season, wondering, "Now who is that again? What is their position? What house/faction are they with?" etc.

Not a fan of Warhammer. Oh well. At least they aren't done with that genre.

Do Warhammer games even sell?

Would have loved if they covered books 7-9 instead (Bobbie's not dead y'all I swear!), but I get the first 3 are the most compelling.

Good. This ain't the 90s anymore. Time to go hang out with the big boys and make real games.

It is a great universe, but one of the reasons the universe is great is because the lore and world building is great, which unfortunately also means it can be a lot to digest for new viewers. The books might be a better way to get into it, or possibly a spoiler-free lore guide before a second try with the show.
