The "Fable 3 PC comes out on May 17th and nobody cares" thread |OT|

If Lionhead "dumb down" the franchise any more than they already have, the next Fable game will play itself. The primary issue I have with making Fable more casual-friendly is that those addtional steps don't need to be taken. Fable: TLC was a perfectly approachable Action-RPG and the sequel even moreso. Lionhead's approach to Fable III went too far and the entire game broke down due to the poor foundation; the game is a genuine atrocity that neither the intended "mainstream audience" nor fans of the franchise desire.
I agree that they shouldn't make it even easier, but I never saw Fable as a hardcore ARPG franchise. It's not like this is Microsoft's Zelda. Give the franchise a 3 year development cycle and I think we would get better games. The sales of Fable III weren't particularly good and definitely not up to Molyneux' standards (5M sales, lol), so lets hope they take a bit more time with the next game (I hope they don't announce it for this fall).

I got it for 360 played the hell out of it. Fun little game. Shame Fable never lived up to Pete's words but I've never thought any of them were bad games. Although I wish each sequel would have added more than it did. Still have fond memories of the series.

Nobody did (or does, but that goes without saying :p). Hell, not even Lionhead.

I'm not sure extra time would do much good, at least on the technical side. Fable II and Fable III are virtually identical in how broken they are.

Ideally, Fable IV would build upon what people enjoyed - and re-examine what didn't quite work - about Fable: TLC and Fable II, instead of again restructuring the game for the sake of an audience who, quite frankly, isn't interested. I would like to think the reception of Fable III will make Lionhead realise they need to please their fans (or the fans they had, as the case may be) instead of going out of their way to alienate them for the (unlikely) prospect of gaining new ones.

Get this shit guys. My wife is a casual gamer, who mostly plays console wRPGs. Fable, Fallout, Oblivion etc.

So she brings this bastard home from Wal Mart today for "us". And, I love the gesture. I really do. But this game runs like complete asshole on my computer. Is there a 30fps frame rate lock somewhere? I'm getting better perf out of The Witcher 2.

If only she knew that I'm dying inside because I can't get Dirt 3 next week. But I can play the fuck out of Fable 3 at 18 fps. Still. Love her for the gesture. Just wondering if there's a framerate cap. I get approx same frame rate at any resolution or GFX settings.

Specs are: 275 GTX (factory)OC - AMD Phenom II 955x4 @3.8Ghz - 4 GB RAM - W7 x64

Go into your Video Card Control panel, (example - nVidia control panel) force Vsync option turn on. Turn off Vsync in the game. BOOM 60 FPS no motion blur.

i don't own the game, but that might help.

Apparently there isn't a local/couch co-op mode either (which was included in the Xbox version), which cancels any chance of me buying the game, oh well, not surprising

fable 3 was masochistic. the fact remains is that the
timeline of when the darkness comes from 150 days to 1 day
was incredibly cruel. It was the first time that a game developer intentionally bullied the gamer.

man sucks they dont include ALL DLC

sounds like traitors keep is the real ending of the game

wanted to play this while I wait for witcher 2 patch to be playable, but I already finished the game on xbox (but not traitors keep) so without extra content its hard to be motivated

game looks amazing in 3D though

I had no problem with that. Buying the whole game world is worth every penny. :lol

Hmmm reading some things in here...

Fable 3 PC is no different from the console version, right?

No more than the average console port. It certainly doesn't live up to the PC experience Lionhead was touting.

I'll just play more Witcher 2, then.

I'd liken it to the hype Gearbox had around the PC version of Borderlands. Yeah, it didn't end up really having any special features, but if you like the game you like the game.

Just finished Fable 3 last night. I really liked it. Everything to me was better than Fable 2. Had a better story, and better ending, controls, etc. A few things Fable 2 has on Fable 3 is variety of weapons, magic, etc.

One thing I really disliked about Fable 3 is the artstyle/design. Looks like a 2001 game, seriously. Even with everything max, this thing looks old & dated. Just my opinion of course, but see for yourself.

In case someone hasn't played it yet, story spoiler warning!
On how I would rule as a king in Fable 3: I chose to keep my promises but chose profit on everything else. Worked out for me.

so is the traitors keep DLC available for the pc version? I dont see it on steam or windows marketplace, but its references in reviews...

edit-

Oops never mind, found it on marketplace under "New releases" (even though it didnt come up for a search)

Can I download this if I have the steam version?

Oh this is out now?

I might try it after I finish the Witcher.

How you found this really cheap somewhere? Because this is not worth anything near 40€. And you know that it comes bundled with Securom and Games for Windows Live?

It's a bad game, that looks shit and is piss easy according to this thread.

So they ship out a bad port and when the sales don't impress, Microsoft use piracy as to why they won't port more games to PC....

LOL at the hate

Is this game a disappointment for RPG fans? Yes, I was disappointed.

But its by no means a terrible game as long as your realize its more "streamlined" to be a barely-RPG. And some things are TERRIBLE like not being able to choose an expression, WTF!

But it is a nice looking game IMO if you like color (except the trees ugh please use speedtree), and it runs fine on my PC unlike Witcher 2. I have i7, 460M laptop BTW.

it's not The Witcher 2. HEY-OH!

I still may get the game. but I may wait until it gets a price drop or something. does this use Games for Windows Live? the one with all the annoying updates I mean

The hate this game gets is bandwagoning at its most retarded.

If you liked Fable II, you'll like III.

EDIT: and please don't tell me you missed using the d-pad to perform expressions in Fable II, because then I'll know you're full of shit.

Replace "you will" with "you may", and you'd be correct. I quite enjoyed Fable II, but Fable III is the worst game I have ever played.

It will be a while before I play it, so I would hope it would go cheap. Then again, this Microsoft and MS isn't about to let their downloadable games go cheap. Steam maybe, but that will be a long time and I actually predict it won't happen.

Not true. Was a massive fan of both Fable 1 and 2 but the third didn't do it for me, felt like they didn't give it their all, bit stale and I quickly completed it and forgot all about it.

so I own game on steam - can I download Traitors Keep from windows marketplace and it will work, or do I have to wait for a Steam "port"?

No, the hate is well deserved. It´s a rushed game fileld with ideas don´t work together, does work on their own, or are just downright stupid. Escort missions where you are required to hold hands with grown men to lead them the right way? Haggle with blacksmith by dancing with them? Gain the trust of the citizens and become their hero by slaughtering them?

I quite liked Fable II, but Fable III is the worst game I have bought for many many years.

Terrible post and completely untrue. I enjoyed Fable II but III was a downgrade in almost every way.

excellent thread title. sums up my attitude after playing Fable 1 (to completion) and 2 (not).

I actually enjoyed number 1. 2 was so far downhill from there i can't even stomach the thought of what 3 might be like.

Question to those who have the PC version: When you play fetch with your dog, does he actually fetch it and return it?

In the 360 version, you'd throw the ball and he wouldn't do anything. At first I thought it was a bug but it turns out they just didn't bother doing an animation for it, even though there was one in II.

False. Add me to the long list of people who liked Fable 1 & 2 yet hated 3.

Thought this game was good on 360, not the best thing ever, but good. I don't think it's massively worse than Red Dead Redemption, which is supposedly the BEST GAME EVER: IT PUSHES THE MEDIUM TO THE LIMITS 9.5/10.

Yes he does.

Is Fable 3 really regarded as an even bigger disappointment than its predecessors? Insanity. Talk about a downhill slope for this series.
