The Final Bosman Show

Another factor to consider is the GT layoffs and staff turnover, I honestly didn't watch any GT content, including kyle, for like a month after that. I still only watch intermittently

Um, he kinda makes it look like Playtonic weren't honest with their Kickstarter, and they were. They mention both in the video and the FAQ that they had a budget prior to it. It's not Iga's exact situation but why give props to one and not the other?

I also don't agree with his criticism for the release date since Yooka-Laylee is months ahead in development and Bloodstained has nothing but concept art. It seems natural to me that the former would come out months earlier.

But other than that it was a good episode.

Yeah. He said Yooka-Laylee wants Oct 16 as a release and that isn't reasonable but Bloodstained with March 17 is? When Yooka has 3 months of dev time before the KS whereas Bloodstained just has concept art?

But yeah, I enjoyed the episode though was kinda worried how he had to make a "simple" episode. Is Kyle being told to scale back or dumb the show down to appeal to people?

I'm really sad Kyle is struggling to make that advertising at the end good, because I really feel like he cares about his show, and don't want to just put that advertising at the end...

I'm sad because this should not be a problem in the show... it doesn't have to be a problem specially when its not a full part of the show...

His take on YouTubers and YouTube tropes has always felt a bit......I don't know, snobby? That's really not the right word, but clearly he feels like using the last few seconds of the video to plug other content is beneath him. It's especially strange since plugging your content at the end of a show has always been a Bosman-endorsed part of GT Time. I really don't see what's wrong with taking a few seconds to say "Subscribe if you like my videos, here's some other videos you might like." It's certainly not as bad as the donation/subscription begging that most Twitch and YouTube personalities engage in.

It's also peculiar given that Huber Hype is such a YouTube-y show, and it's produced by a friend and co-worker.

Because actually sincerely promoting something is much better than being covered up by two big squares that you can't actually click on with the majority of devices. The plugging in GT Time has Kyles favourite thing: context. You win a bet, you can plug something you care about while this is just two random videos that have to be promoted because management says so.

I have to think that Kyle can find a couple decent videos that he sincerely likes each week and can say something good about. Even popular and well-respected sites like GiantBomb do ad-reads for products they probably wouldn't personally endorse. If he legitimately dislikes all the other GT videos and can't endorse them in good conscience then it is time to look for greener pastures. At some point, the apathetic or sarcastic tone he takes with these brief and painless promos is going to seem a bit spoiled and pouty.

I guess I'm glad that somebody is willing to push back against tacky promotion, but at the same time GT really isn't in a position where they can ride on the high horse.

I think it's less that he doesn't like anything else on GT and doesn't want to give it a good ad but more like he doesn't really know what is in the videos there and he's just told "You're plugging this episode of whatever and a review on something". He might not have watched the video, it might still be in editing when he records the plug plus people watch his show for him, if they wanted to watch the other stuff on GT then they would be watching the other stuff. So many end of youtube video plug bullshit is pointing to things that if you cared you'd already have watched or plan to watch anyway. He probably feels it's just stupid. I only watch Kyles show and not any of the other things and I just watch the ad part to see what snarky thing Kyle does to liven them up rather than "Yo guys this video is sick you won't believe what happens!".

I dunno, I feel like I've watched plenty of cool videos simply because they were promoted at the end a related video, or suggested by YouTube after the video's end. Even if I was subscribed to the Gametrailers YouTube channel, I wouldn't have known about their Witcher 3 Review because it is only on the "GameTrailers Reviews" channel. But since I watch The Final Bosman, now I'm watching their Witcher review.

Maybe that's just a result of the weird way GT distributes their content on YT, but I think it's a stretch to say that I already would have watched their other content just because I enjoy Final Bosman.

Yup, it's more he doesn't know what the video actually is as none of them have time to watch much other GT content. It's the same with Man Ups, so instead of even talking about the videos, they just have another outtake play while they're up. It just seems weird to do this now with more and more traffic moving away from mobile.
quality of content up...viewership down. go figure? (speaking about GT in general and not just FB)

It makes sense in the context of GT. They have less of a presence now then they did when it first started. GT was promoted with things like GT.TV and other Viacom crossovers like the massive presence on Spike during E3. Combine that with their god awful player that even made me stop watching most of their content a month before they went to YouTube and mobile apps that no longer work (I think iOS was fixed, but still can't watch GT on Android and if you thought the desktop web player was bad, the mobile one seems to be even worse).

Hopefully they can stop the rot, or at the very least, find the baseline that's comfortable.

I think there's a problem with quantity of content, I nearly missed the last Bosman because it was between a dozen "LEVEL" videos and a dozen "Trailer Score" videos on their youtube feed

They're uploading their archives eventually, so if that's how you browse content, it will only get worse. Most of the Level episodes were all archived ones. I don't think YouTube will let them avoid that.

That's only a recent "problem" though, so it doesn't really explain past declining numbers.
I think it's simply endemic of the console war hype dying down, as the two major console releases are farther and farther behind us.

Quoting myself here but can someone photoshop googly eyes onto the piece of paper behind him?

Oh my god, he used the graph of his ratings everyone was talking about in the thread for "Pokemon Disinterest", it's both sad and beautiful.

The mother-daughter conversation was amazing.

It's also the 100th Final Bosman Episode!

As soon as I saw that chart on here last week, I knew something like this was coming.

I feel a certain anxiety over GT's views myself, as a fan, because I feel like the content they produce is genuinely some of the best gaming content on the internet. There's been a lot of talk about the relevance of games media over the past few years as that aspect of the industry moved more and more towards let's plays... and I feel like there's also been a lot of talk about the importance of content curators vs content creators over the past few years as well. Those topics probably can't be good for the morale of people that work in that part of the industry.

I very much consider Gametrailers' staff to be content creators rather than curators. They draw about as much inspiration from games as games do from other games. Sure, people talking about video games doesn't sound like that compelling or unique a product on paper, but their presentation very much is to the point where I feel like nothing could replace them should they stop doing what they do. I wish and hope more people will recognize that, because they absolutely deserve it.

We need a content curation tool for content that looks like it's made by content curation services but actually isn't.

He's wrong about the system transfer, though? I transferred pokemon and animal crossing no problem?

A full system transfer will indeed work just fine. AC and Pkmn do have extra restrictions that stop any kind of copying of the save file, but it is possible to transfer them to a new system through the system transfer.

Anyone notice that the bit at the end with the links to the other GT videos didn't have his Casio music or snarky narration this week? I wonder if Defy told him to knock it off.

I'm getting worried Bosman is slowly losing his audience :<

Does that count Youtube views? I've been watching it on youtube for some time now, maybe more people are doing that too.

EDIT: Damn, had this tab open for days, saw the posts now, haha.

EDIT2: HAHA, that bonus bit.

So he did some weird half-assed system transfer? Which system transfer type would cause the failure?

Also I think smash bros is in the same category. I think it has to do with the online components, but i'm not sure? Like, going online ties your game to a system or something.

eagerly waiting the bets episode.

hope that huber still picks the stipulation that kyle need to perform recorded stand-up in front of his peers if he loses

Dat graph, man.

Also, new storyline brewing?! Maybe Mr. Mime will have competition?

Glad to see that Kyle finally got his pent up Pokémon feelings and thoughts out of his system lol

A couple seemed off, though.

His transfer method was weird. What was he doing that stopped him being able to transfer ORAS over?? Many have successfully transferred it.

Plus he implied you can't send to X & Y from ORAS, which isn't true.

Have been waiting for him to do a Pokémon episode for a while, though. Worth it.

I think he was talking about going from ORAS to XY and I guess he was talking about either the costume Pikachu or new mega evolutions.

Yeah but that's a very limited amount. Everything else can be sent to and from XY. We've had that before with new alternate forms not being tradeable back to the previous game in the same gen, it's nothing new.
