The Final Bosman Show

lol'd at the flagpole part. Completely agree with him on 3d word.

What exactly is the story as to why Mario, Peach, Toad, and Luigi decide to go on some weird adventure together, or are they literally not going to write a script for this one and just throw you into the level.

The Final Donkey Butt: new thread for new show? lol

Another solid episode, I think this kid's gonna go far. Also, dat ominous music at the end!

Ninja edit: This episode is kinda funny considering the major Xbone news that broke today haha

This is where I really disagree with Kyle. In an industry where almost every AAA game tries to portray a real world (and thus has the gameplay bound by the rules of logic (and sometimes also rules of nature if the game goes for a realistic world, i.e. no magic and/or sci-fi)), Nintendo likes prioritize gameplay and have the worlds be abstract and contextless.

Reaction to Mario came off as strange. Galaxy 1 and 2 both had plenty of levels that were there for the sake of being levels without any explanation or story. It's a silly thing to knock the game for.

That ending.

I don't know if context was really the problem with Super Mario 3D World, but rather his first sentiment: that it's restricting. With a brand new console, I expected a brand new experience worthy of putting down $350-400. I'm sure 3D World will be fun and fine, but it's not original. There's no real new gameplay mechanics that make me think "this could only be done on the Wii U." At all.

This is coming from someone who has actually played 3D World. It just feels like more of the same.

Nomura interview, damn he knows his audience.

Wait what? Did I miss something?

Another great episode. I seriously love this show so much. Can't say I really disagree with him on anything. I also liked that he didn't cover the MS to death on this one, but instead focused on the impact the consumer can have.

Also was a good idea, because had he spent the entire time talking about MS, then this breaking announcement would have undercut his episode. This now strengthens it, as it proves his point (ie. MS ended up reversing their policies, because of the consumers speaking out against it).

Bowser kidnapped himself.

Not sure if serious but

Great interpretation on why the new Mario game fell flat. 3D World just does not spark my imagination. Flagpoll without a castle rofl.

The horror.

Have you played Super Mario 3D Land?

Each world has no cohesive theme. Your character is locked to 8-way movement, even with an analog stick.

Every level literally feels like the box you see on the outside. Maybe it's a stylized choice, but it feels just like a huge sampler pack of levels.

That's from the Grandmaster Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2, the final level in the game. It's just a cute callback at the end of the first segment of the stage, it's not even the end of the stage.

I think the problem with the latest Mario games is that they fixate on tropes and icons just for the sake of repetition. For example: "There's gotta be flagpoles at the end." Well, no, SMB USA ended with hawkmouths, SMB3 ended with matching cards, SMW ended with scrolling goal tapes, Super Mario 64 ended with stars... it got pretty repetitive with Stars/Shines for a while, but that's because it was the easiest way for them to plunk a goal point into a 3D space.

Then the New SMB games fixed on flagpoles. Their justification for putting them in 3D Land was that "because of the stereoscopic 3D viewpoint, it was actually possible to easily hit them now," or words to that effect. And now they're in 3D World... just because they were in 3D Land.

Another good episode. His flagpole discussion definitely has me thinking about context quite a bit. And the Donkey Butt stuff at the end was priceless. Bosman is really the only reason I still go to GT.

I need more stuff to view while eating. All my backlog stuff has been watched and recent stuff is obviously watched quite fast.

Bosmann is the only one of all these video-/youtube- journo/commentator honchos who doesn't come off as entitled always raging pricks, arguing only by being verbally abusive or demanding that company X does Z or they are dead.

He's like a grown child. A manchild. But in a good way. Without the cynicism, the bleak realistic view, but as someone who's passion for gaming is not coming from graphics or perfected gameplay mechanics... but just joy and having fun.

And it's a joy to me and extremly refreshing to see someone like that.

I imagine the flagpoles are in 3D World because they want to focus on point competitions between players and getting the right jump at the end (and sabotaging each other) makes sense for that.

It's only one of things wrong with it.

Other things like the fact it's an obvious port from the 3DS weren't even touched on.

''Obvious''

I really want to swear my head off because the frustration of that tiny word.

Not to mention the overall dumb assessment you are making in regards to the game.

lol Im glade that someone stores videos to watch while eating to! You mention Jon Tron so Im going to assume you watch Game Grumps. If you like tech news theres a youtube channel called John4lakers. Its acutally Technobuffalos channel. The videos are 3-6 minutes, perfect for eating. Adam Sessler's stuff at Rev3games is always fun. geek and sundry has a wide vairty of videos that can be good. If your into battlefield or tf2 then shibby 2142, or Star_ (goes by niichts on youtube) is great. Hope that helps!

I tried to watch game grumps several times, but can't seem to enjoy it much. The confusing upload cycle (50 games mixed instead of finishing one) doesn't help either.
While I'm tech-affine, I'm not into mainstream tech so much. Cba about smart phones, tablet or google glasses.
Adam Sessler, I watch occasionally, but I'm not a fan per se.
Not into BF or TF2 unfortunately (or minecraft for that matter).

Thanks for your effort tho! Seems I'm too choosey. x)

subbed just because. Also I'd like to recommend Jeremy Jahns on Youtube, if you like movie stuff.

But when they do that they make Mario games with less impact than Galaxy/Galaxy 2, which is Bosman's point and hard to disagree with.

I don't think "port" means what you think it means.

Also have these Mario 3D World haters even played Mario 3D Land? The game is fantastic, especially when you get to the Special World and the difficulty really ramps up.

getting worked up about the thing that ends the level is sort of weird
Well it does make it feel less like a new adventure, and more like a collection of random levels.

MY problem with the game (from what shown so far) is the level design, really.
It barely looks like a platformer, whereas Galaxy was what i would consider the pinnacle of 3d platformer purity, these levels look more like a flat playground with some random jump here and there, that lack any form of challenge.
I think part of the problem is its multiplayer nature.

As i said in the thread right after the conference: is this a platformer or a party game?

That said, i'm more than willing to change my stance as more levels get revealed.

Why can't it be both a platformer and a party game?

And I swear, it's like we don't have a game in the series to see that it does open up to some amazing platforming levels!

And while they seem gimmicky, I can also see the clear pipes being used for some great level designs and obstacles/puzzles

When they'll show some good platforming, i'll tell you how i feel then.

Seeing Mario and friend running around in a flat plain without obstacles (basically) was not exciting.
At least Mario Sunshine had a very unique identity and setting, that hooked me from the start.
