The final Tonight Show with Jay Leno

Ferguson is boring. Conan, Kimmel, and the very, very, very occasional Letterman are the acceptable choices.

I used to like Leno, but I lost quite a bit of respect for him after the Conan fiasco. That being said, I wouldn't mind if he hosted a car show.

Ferguson is boring?

I know opinions and all that. But you're off your rocker.

.

Good riddance.

Curious to see how long it lasts this time. Leno is already being a douche and playing the victim.

the big difference is that this time there is no threat of Jay going to ABC or Fox, so NBC doesn't haven't panic and give him a 10:00PM show or keep him in the fold.

So has Fallon improved at telling jokes during his monologue at all? His sketch stuff is fine but I remember that was always his weakest link. Wouldn't be surprised if there's a huge ratings drop.

It didn't help either when it seemed like NBC knew Fallon can't tell jokes and shortened his monologue to 2-3 jokes.

Fallon puts on a great show, really looking forward to the Tonight Show. All the guests who go on Fallon seem super comfortable with him which is such a big plus. The atmosphere seems really genuine and fun.

Conan's my favourite still however. His TBS show is great, if a little inconsistent. When he does remote segments and certain interviews he is as good as ever, but I gotta admit even as a huge Conan fan, it can feel a little phoned in sometimes when he's just doing basic studio stuff.

I'm looking forward to see what Jimmy does, I just love his enthusiasm.

His monologue does suck, but I also get the feeling he knows he sucks at them and think it's hilarious.

NBC and Leno will probably use the high finale ratings as a reason to force him back in. See, people love Leno! Look at that rating!

These network late night shows are too hack with their jokes but Jimmy Fallon is likable enough. All the feuding and history behind these shows is really interesting though.

I like Conan and Craig Ferguson. I wouldn't mind a future where it's just the two of them dueling it out.

In a few weeks NBC offers Jay Leno $100 million to come back to the Tonight Show because of how horrible the ratings are.

He'll be back, Fallon's monologue delivery is too horrible for prime time.

THIS. I like Fallon but I see no way Leno's audience sticks with Fallon. It's going to be a disaster, much like Conan.

I think Leno is back by Christmas.

Leno said he will never come back and that he's done.

He's putting a country wide tour together and is writing jokes with comedians. He is out of any contractual obligation with NBC. He's not coming back.

Jay Leno is widely considered as one of the best stand up comics of all time. The problem is that as the host of the Tonight Show, he decided to cater to the lowest common denominator and push no boundaries. Everything is very safe and fake.

i like fallon, but i wonder how well the different audience will react to him. A few weeks of lower ratings and they'll be begging for Leno to come back again.

No way. They're moving it back to NY. They're having Fallon host who has a young demographic. It'll take time but it seems to me they're wanting to make the Tonight Show appeal to younger audiences (bigger advertising money). They're done with Leno, finally. I feel sorry that Conan didn't get the same treatment as Fallon.

Truth.

Fallon is a nice guy, but he's awful in this role.
Do you ever watch beyond the monologue? It's about the whole show. I've heard endless praise from people in the biz (just from interviews and such) that Fallon is perfect for the role. They're always doing fun skits and generally being silly. And guests are comfortable enough to join in. The musical guests/bits are some of the best in late night, with Fallon and the Roots regularly joining in and having a good time.

If flavorless oatmeal is genius, sure.
I'm no Leno fan but apparently he was one of the top stand ups before watering himself down with Tonight Show.

There are better comedians, but as the whole package - Leno is kind of hard to beat. Also, the guests the last weeks crying out saying he's the best guy ever off camera seems surprisingly trustworthy.

He was a top stand up despite the Tonight Show. He had tons and tons of material that he performed live all throughout his 22 year tenure.
