Fantastic response. Well done.

What ticks me off the most is that Fallon gets to take over the Tonight Show and stay in NY. Conan had to leave NY, move his family to LA, as well as nearly all of the staff from his show. Then after all that getting the boot.

I wish he had gotten to stay in NY and have Leno completely off the air like Fallon has the luxury of having.

Comcast is a slightly less moronic beast than NBC Universal

I would think Fallon is going to have the same issues Conan had, but Fallon is even more awkward. I dunno.

NBC is not that interested in keeping Leno's audience. His audience is outside the coveted 18-49 demographic that advertisers so desperately want. Ratings being "down" won't mean as much as long as the viewers are younger.

Did this apply to Conan as well? I've seen this said over and over, and I genuinely don't know the answer.

I think Fallon does poor in his interview segments. He doesn't have an authority to him. Everything around his interviews and monologue is probably the best of any talk show though. I would almost entirely attribute this to the Roots but honestly Fallon is one of, if not, the only talk show host who can also sing and dance. There was recently a "Best of Late Night" special on TV that really cemented that in for me. Too bad its not the Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake show.

Conan's only issue was having the more disposable contract.

As far as Fallon goes, I think the elderly will be scared off by his suspicious looking band members.

Yeah I can agree with this. His stuff with Justin timberlake is god tier

If he got ferguson on to interview guests and do monologues it would be the greatest late night show

Jeno just generally hates people on air. Everyone who attempts to do anything sentimental for him, he just rushes to the next segment.

Jay, we love you, and we we'll never forget yo...COMING UP NEXT, JOEY LAWRENCE IS HERE. WE'LL BE RIGHT BACK!

Is he really not doing ANYTHING for NBC anymore? The man's basically a virus, he's stated that he has to work nonstop or he loses his will to live. So what concession prize are they giving him this time?

Someone else said it in another thread, but Fallon has an awful monologue compared to Leno especially and also Conan. Those first 10-15 minutes of the show are really important to keep people watching so he better step it up.

So is it for good this time? If so I know I'll cease watching. I just don't find Fallon funny one bit. He just tries too hard. I liked Conan though. He really got screwed by NBC.

The handful of times I've watched Fallon, mostly in his first couple years, I cringed. I think he's a good guy but he just seems to lack the showmanship one should have in hosting a late night show. Recently I watched a show or two and I felt more or less the same. At least Fallon has that fake laugh down for celebrity interviews. ;)

Good luck to him, though. I'll certainly tune in at least a couple times.

So after a crappy monologue, Fallon will play some stupid game with the guests willing to put up with that crap?

Oh goody.

I don't particularly like Leno but giving the show to Conan made more sense. Conan worked better within the late night format while still giving it a slightly weirder (and younger) sense of humor. Fallon's main strengths aren't really reasons to tune in every night, the best moments will be bite sized hulu clips. I hope he's a success because he employs the Roots though

Yeah and in 9 months when Fallon's ratings are comparable to Conan's Tonight Show ratings, Leno's going to try to sneak his way back in. Hasn't he already put out the "It's NBC's decision, not mine" hook?

I'm guessing its over this time. Leno did a guest spot on Episodes where he was cursing up a storm. He would never do anything like that if he was thinking of making a come back at some point.

Leno curses in his stand up...

Watch Leno to move before Conan on TBS. Leno is a real life youtube troll.

Fallon is definitely going to struggle in that timeslot, but NBC is just gonna have to bear with him for a while. Hell, maybe even more than "a while." They can't bring Leno back again, as much as they might want to — that would be fucking insane (even though he'd probably do it).

How many more years does Dave have at the Late Show?

Is it safe to assume Ferguson would take over when Dave retires?

hahaha, no. Dave will likely bring in a woman to replace him, just to shake things up... I'm thinking Tina Fey or Amy Poehler...

I don't find anything about Leno's show interesting, but everyone should listen to his interview with Jay Mohr on Mohr Stories because it's fascinating to hear the stories of how he got started in comedy, working with a burlesque group, homeless in LA, etc. It's very very interesting for a guy who is so... banal. And of course the hiding-in-the-closet antics to get the Tonight Show gig.

Are late night talk shows like The Tonight Show or Late Night big in other countries? Like is there a Jay Leno/Dave Letterman type of personality in say, England? Or Germany? Or Brazil? One who's been doing it for decades and is overall pretty well-liked and respected?

Or is this genre of entertainment purely an American institution?

Graham Norton comes on on BBC and I find it entertaining. He has a much better way of interacting with guests IMO.
