The final word. Playstation 3, or Xbox360?

the ps3 seems so much more impressive than the xbox 360 that i'm almost afraid to buy microsofts system... it gives me horror flash backs to when i spent a huge wad of cash and bought a 3d0 at launch... i'm beginning to fear that 360 could get destroyed that badly... even if the games end up looking better. these last few days have been so inept that i'm starting to not trust microsoft to do anything right anymore.

nintendo is a different story all together, because i'm going to buy that anyway for the nintendo games, but now that oblivion is supposed to be coming to ps3, i see myself with ps3 + rev next generation... that could still change but thats the way i feel coming out of these press conferences and going in i thought it would be 360 + rev + eventually ps3. ever since the mtv special, microsoft has just continued to suck.

X360 - as soon as one of the MistWalker games comes out in the US
PS3 - depends on what games are available at launch
Rev - as soon as a new Smash Bros comes out

Obviously both -

I'm sure Sony will deliver with the games, but I'm not jumping all over it because of some nice looking pre rendered stuff. Hopefully they will have something to PLAY tomorrow - or at least some footage of gameplay. It's more hype right now then anything imo - but I have no doubt Sony will deliver eventually - they always do.

360 is going to be awesome as well - and it comes out this year. PD0 better show up revamped soon cause what I saw was sad. Kameo looked amazing, and I'm sure come launch, there will be plenty of stuff to drool over.

Apart from the Mistwalker games, that I'm very interested in, Xbox looks like a continuation of Western type games to me, so I'm not too hot on that. I know PS3 will have the games I like eventually, but right now it's all boring sequelitis.

I'm praying for Nintendo to shake things up a little. It's been rather mediocre so far.

Well .. unless Killzone is at least 95% indicative of how the final product will look, and that it will be available at launch. Then I'm getting a PS3 on day one.

PS3 for certain. The new games, not the sequels (which are the icing) sold me! That and the BR player and support for two HD TV's. I might just have to try that out :D

Not sure yet. Ask me after the weekend. A lot more will be revealed about the games at E3. I can afford both systems no question, but I usually don't have the time to play the great games on two systems, so I'll most likely stick to one. At this point it looks like this:

Xbox 360: Crappy name, and it looks like a white Dell Optiplex. Controller looks like a nice evolution of the S controller. Games look great, as expected, but aside from Gears of War, I didn't see too much to get excited about yet. Ace card is the Live service. Still the best Online solution, and it's obvious they aren't standing pat on Live.

PS3: Much nicer design for the sytem, but it all comes undone with that controller. Ugh. The games also look great, again as expected, but I'm not that excited about all the sequels. Well, except for maybe GTA! :) PSP interactivity has me intrigued, I'll want to learn more about that, online service still a bit cloudy.

I don't think either system has a clear technical superiority over the other, and anyone who says that at the moment is mostly grasping at straws. The games are going to look verys similar to one another, and their is plenty of memory and CPU power to go around. So, for now, I'll stay patient and wait for more info during the E3 show.

As for Revolution, I could care less. I'm sure it will be a nice system, but I've lost interest in Nintendo a long time go. It'll be either Xbox 360 or PS 3 for me for sure.

X360 at launch with PGR3 and maybe DOA4. Then PS3 a year later with a slew of 2nd-hand PS2 games.

I've tried for half an hour to choose just one but I can't. I'm so weak! *sob*

I am sure I will buy X-Box 360 at launch... but none of the videos have impressed me yet... but why buy NBA2K6 on X-Box when the X-Box 360 will be much better...

Even if X-Box 360 is only a little bit better than X-Box, it will be worth it to upgrade until PS3...

I did not buy the PS2, but I will probably pick up PS3 to play games I missed this generation.

I don't know if it because I am watching the videos in lower-quality Windows Media Player... but the videos for PS3 and X-Box 360 are really doing nothing for me.

I need to see them running on a big-screen TV or Hi-Res videos... LINKS?

After watching both, Sony's was way more impressive. But I've never liked the Xbox anyway, and follow FF/DQ to wherever they go (except FF11).

:lol
Well, at least you admit you're bias, unlike half the Sonycophants in this thread.

Myself, I'll be getting a 360 for sure.

I'll probably get a PS3, but I need games. GT5, GOW, and maybe Killzone- the video looked pretty good. I need one more game to make it a must have at this point though. I don't know why, ::rollseyes::, yeah right, there's all this kvetching about the MS presentation. /SARCASM

Oh wait, yeah I do.

Anyway, both consoles look great to me.

Xbox has the advantage of Xbox Live and some interesting games but PS3 has overall stronger 3rd party support and seems to be slightly more powerful. I don`t know what all the hype about the "Cell" processor was. It`s probably just the same as all that "Emotion Engine" bullshit from PS2.

I`d like to know more about the actual games before I make a decision though which won`t have to be done until at least this November or so. We`ve seen videos of Xbox 360 and PS3 games but little real gameplay.

Cell is actually pretty amazing and a huge leap for CPUs in general. It will take years for PCs to be able to do what Cell can do. IBM/Sony are banking on cell being in more than just the PS3.

Anybody with a steady job that pays the minimum wage and above can likely afford to own and support both consoles. Who cares about that?

If the demos were all realtime, then PS3 has impressed FAR more than X360. It might not even be close. The only X360 game that lives up to my expectations of the next gen is Gears of War, and that game appeared to run like shit (not to mention the fact that the same engine was up and running on PS3 at a rock solid framerate w/ only 2 months work).

Of course, if it turns out that the Killzone and offroad racer footage are NOT representative of the final product...

If they were both coming out at the same time, PS3. But since they're not, I'll likely go for 360. I strongly doubt that many of you saying you'll wait for PS3 have the iron will to resist buying or asking for 360s during the holidays if you, respectively, can afford one or stand a chance to recieve one.

Anyway, It's really better for gaming as a whole if 360 does well, way I see it. If MS becomes a real threat to Sony marketshare-wise, we'll see a lot more interesting cards put on the table by the both of 'em. The fiercer the competition, the more benefit the consumer sees.

So far PS3 has been owning both MS and Nintendo, but Ms already had their chance to prove what they got, that failed, and now it's Nintendo's turn. We dont need 2 Dreamcasts floating around....

I have very intention of getting a Revolution if it lives up to its name.

But from what I have seen of the X360 & PS3 I am far more impressed with what Sony is doing. So if Revolution fails miserably I will be getting my very first playstaion.

I just dont see any compelling exclusive content for X360.(as in not availible for pc either) Perfect Dark was the one game that had a chance but they didnt even show it.

I'll probably get both. 360 isn't that impressive technically, but that's never been a big sell for me-- games has. And I think MS is taking up slack where Sony used to be the incubator for really odd, new game experiences.

If the PS3 was coming out in the fall, I was seriously being tempted to get the 360 as games are starting to feel really old. But, with the PS3 being out in a year, and seeming to be a significant upgrade to Xbox360, I'm leaning towards only getting the PS3.

But, in the end, if the 360 gets an exclusive I can't live without, I'll get that as well.

What's the most interesting, is that other than a weak offering from Square (more may be shown later, obviously, but leading w/ FFXI seems weak to me and it may be telling), Sony has managed to keep all of their big exclusives (MGS, GTA, Tekken, DMC, & new FF confirmed).

Xbox has certainly picked up some more content (Sega, Namco, THQ, Square-Enix), but nothing shown yet seems to upset the advantage that Sony has had up to this point.

To me, this trumps the hardware stuff we've seen so far.

Need more details on x360's backward compatibility really. And they need a few more exclusive "must have" titles before I'm fully swayed to MS.

The PS3 on the other hand, has actually gotten me more interested in what they can do with that HD IP camera and I'm curious as to how far they've really gotten with voice recognition.

That game Eyedentify could turn out to be the freakiest game ever if they really responded that well to your voice like that.

Far to early to tell.

As for the PS3 it does have some interesting specs, but I am skeptical big time. Couldnt care less about the tech-demo's they showed. Anyone who thinks these are more than movies is kidding themselves. Yet the PS3 does appear pretty impressive, although a couple of things are puzzling and I am not sold at all about the Cell. I find that the PS3 has some overkill (6 USB ports, 7 controllers, in and out for Ethernet and WiFi) and couple that with BluRay, BlueTooth and I really wonder how the blazes PS3 will not cost a small fortune, yet no included HDD. Not to mention (and I dont care about this one bit) the thing is quite large and it is so funny how the XBOX got slammed for this.

I have trust in Microsoft and know that the focus of E3 was not about taking away attention from another player, which is what Sony's goal was. The 360 looks real good, builds of games running on alpha hardware look good and will only get better (And believe that PS3 will get worse before they get better).

The big difference is that Sony appears to have no online strategy beyond what they did with the PS2. Will I get a PS3? Depends a great deal on how the PSP ages for me. I have had far to many crappy Sony products over the past couple of years and frankly dont trust Sony anymore. Over the past couple of years I have had 2 DVD players from Sony both pretty crappy, gave them another chance with a DVD changer that holds 400 discs and the think is very poor design. The on screen menu (with 400 discs this is very important) is very slow and with the remote you cant go directly to a disc by number. The keyboard interface to add titles is painfully slow and the onscreen keyboard doesnt have a backspace key. As a company we bought a bunch of Sony VAIO laptops, beautiful screens yet the memory would never stay in place and this happened on all of them. Nothing worse then about to do a presentation and half your memory disapears. Shouldnt have to use lego's and duct tape to keep the memory in place.

Mostly PS3. Will like to see what Nintendo has, just to see. But first, I want to know prices. And not just console prices, but game prices. But, well, PS3 will also be a blu-ray player, so that's going to influence heavily. PS3 just seems to have more advantages for me at the moment. I'll also be waiting to hear if that beast will improve the image quality of PS2 games.

Whoops, oh yeah, and Warhawk!!!!

CRAP. I might wait a year for a decently priced TV that supports an external 1080p signal, and then get the one console that has the most games I want to play.

PS3 for me I dont care if it's real-time or not. It will be more powerful (fact) and Sony has proven that they're still in control of the best dev houses.

WTF?!?!

Sony showed mostly FMVs even one of the devlopers said they only had ps3 kits for 2 months.... atleast MS showed games coming out in the next year not FMVs that they hope will one day pass 1st generation games....no way will 1st generation PS3 games look like what they showed. they show what was possible 3-4 years down the road...MS show what was possible in the next 6-12 months....

and again xbox360 tech isn't impressive? crack?rock?huffing?

XBox360 for me at launch!! XBox LIVE and my community of friends is the main reason I'm sticking with M$ next gen. Also the XBox just has more types of games that I like to play. PS3 looks fantastic, but I can't see myself getting one until at least a year out or after the first price drop, based on my PS2 experience. Revolution I'm not sure of, frankly I've given up on Nintendo, but that's another thread.

I'm not sure if I'll own all 3 consoles next-gen. XBox360 is a gvien, the PS3 is still a wait and see the games for me. I just want to be sure the games LOOK as advertised, play well, and are of genres I give a crap about. My $0.02.....

Final word for me.

Xbox 360 at launch.
PS3 probably not till 2007 when I'm really bored. (however Killzone looked great)
Revolution.... well it's a Nintendo product. :/

i agree

Xbox360 at launch despite some enthusiasm being lost with this BC dance MSFT is playing. I won't deny myself PGR3, latest of an all-time favorite series.

PS3 I'll end up with eventually and again BC is a big deal with dozens of PS1 and PS2 games I'll still want to be able to readily play on one "box".

Um, compared to what little we've seen of the PS3? Yeah, not that impressive.

Perhaps you ought to know that graphics are not a big deal to me, those odd games (which I give the nod to MS for) are.

Here I am sliding into more support for MS than ever, and because I'm not buying the damage control about the PS3 conference I'm suddenly on crack. Fanboys FOAD.

You make some good points. I haven't mentioned it much, but Xbox Live is really an ace-in-the-hole at this point for MS. Sony needs to recognize, and get a similar service. If Sony gets the games I need, and a Live-esque service, then I'm onboard; but the 360 is must get at this point because of the games.

Okay well to be fair I would expect in-game demos to be made sometime later this year. The only real game that impressed me was Killzone 2. Gave me chills. FF7 was a nice touch, but some cloud just didn't look right......

Either way, Sony's conference was a counter to Microsoft's launch of the 360 later this year. There is no way that Sony can win next gen if they cannot come up with a counter name to "Xbox Live" that describes their online gaming network.

Top Bottom
