No I get what you’re saying, I just can’t do that with anime. The subjective part of art is that if it’s distasteful to me, then it’s distasteful to me. But I don’t have to like it to understand it.
Well there's a lot of different anime styles, not like all anime is the same. Saying you don't like anime is almost like me saying I don't like food, well there's mexican, italian, japanese, chinese, etc lot of different types of food. The uguu giant eye ufo monster girls is one thing, but there are some with far more realistic proportions, and there's even cgi.
That is a creature
This has realistic proportions
many characters in ergo proxy have realistic proportions
The proportions here take a bit of artistic liberty but it isn't too difficult to guess what such would resemble in real world.
It's like when you look at drawings of the same character from different artists, or the same artist in different styles, they look different but retain their essence.
But even here with this artist trying to do different takes, there is some deviation from essence by adding or removing details making the face more masculine or less masculine, more or less fat. I would have translated differently and more accurately. In anime if a character is meant to have a specific average or uglier look, the character does look specifically average or ugly in the drawing to make a point and convey a message. Otherwise if no deviation such as in cheeks or nose or etc is made then the characters are generically the same, even changing hair colors or styles might cause one character to pass as another. (edit:if you look at the more pessimistic areas of the web you hear of the concept of the chad, basically you can take dozens or hundreds of men and they all look samey if they look chadish. The claim is chad like appearance is peak of male beauty in the eyes of most women. Now men have more varied tastes in women, but I do believe a chad like female opposite exists, and most females would look samey too in this ideal... In fact I think this is more fundamental as female is not just default human shape but there is more preference for female faces. I can trace what are patterns of patterns, highest of all patterns, but perhaps I've failed here. What I do know is that there is some ideal all of these samey looking anime girls and top of charts anime girls are approaching. Girls like Sakura from Naruto and Zero Two from Darling in the Franxx are approaching some ideal.)
There's even CG anime'ish characters, though rarely used, for which it is far easier to see human likeness as very little artistic changes are applied

Overtime I think more CG like anime with CGish characters may emerge as computation costs reduce and price fall.
If you look at the cg characters you see the beautiful ceramic like flawless skin with perfect pores. Quite unlike the real world humans with their blemished skins. That skin whether white or black, is the skin of the master race, the genetically engineered super race of the future. The pc master race, the future biological bodies of the computer, and digital life, beautiful inside as well as outside.
