Didn't BO.com predict Ultron to be the biggest movie of the summer and it wasn't? We'll see, though I do see it being the highest grossing movie of the year.
We've had some good sci-fi recently, but hopefully Star Wars rebirth leads to a second golden age in the genre. After all, Star Wars lead to a new Star Trek, which also lead to Stargate, Sliders or any number of sci-fi franchises.
Based on his OW prediction I just can't conceive how he came up with 500 mil over 600. Those numbers just don't add up and is baffling me...Ignoring the fact that most people in this thread just throw out random uninformed guesses, Sith's Adjusted 4-day opening is pretty close to that $210M. Granted that was May and a 4 day opening. Not mid December and a 3.5 day opening.
Sith-like interest and reception would still likely translate to $550-600M due to the inflated holidays.
Yes, but it was already at 2,4 billion when it was re-released in cinema.Didn't Avatar have 2 runs in theaters? That being said, if any franchise has a shot at beating Avatar, it's Star Wars.

I seriously doubt that Star Wars will get anywhere near that. There is a lot of hype right now and it's sure to have a massive start but I don't think that Star Wars will have the legs that Avatar had. I just doesn't have that mass appeal imo.
The Avatar "re-release" only made $33M worldwide.
Huh? Those numbers don't make sense.
History.
This is 1999 all over again.
"You better watch out, Cameron! Titanic is going down! STAR WARS is BACK! Ain't nothing going to stop it!"

It has the mass appeal, but most likely not the legs to beat Avatar's WW gross.Star Wars doesn't have that mass appeal? Really?
NO ONE thought TPM would beat Titanic, not even Lucas himself.
Revisionist history is GAF's favourite game.Ha. Let's not get into revisionist history:

http://money.cnn.com/1999/05/17/bizbuzz/starwars/
http://articles.latimes.com/1999/may/24/entertainment/ca-40355
Not everyone thought it was a lock or anything, but pretty much every article leading up to TPM's release talked about its chances at beating Titanic.
I don't know why you've been all over my dick this past week and keep trying to frame my posts as something they're not. But if it helps, I've noticed you. You have been noticed. I hope you don't feel the need to try so hard anymore.Bu bu bu but Abrams had THE property, even a dog could have directed it.
IT'S JUST NOT FAIR!
Pretty much everyone other than Gambit predicted Ultron to be the biggest movie of the summer. Even if they were firmly in the "Star Wars will crush it" camp.
The simple reason why Star Wars may not beat Avatar or before it Titanic is due to piracy.
People went to see Avatar multiple times due to the 3D effect they couldn't get at home.
A different demographic of people went to see Titanic multiple times.
A good majority of the people wanting to see Star Wars multiple times are internet savvy enough where they won't bother seeing it more then a couple times at most because there will probably be a decent version available from piracy.
Except Avatar was the most pirated film of all time. The simple reason why Star Wars may not beat Avatar or before it Titanic is due to piracy.

I agree with the piracy thing, I really doubt that it'll impact this film much. People are just far too invested in this franchise. Are you talking about now or 1999? Movie piracy existed, but was pretty niche in the largely dial-up world of 1999. If you are talking about The Force Unleashed, it's pretty much a sealed deal that it will pass both of those films domestically. The only question is whether it will end up over or under Titanic Worldwide.
The effects of movie piracy on films that aren't garbage is overrated.
Easy dude, its going to be a few rough weeks aheadI don't know why you've been all over my dick this past week and keep trying to frame my posts as something they're not. But if it helps, I've noticed you. You have been noticed. I hope you don't feel the need to try so hard anymore.

The effects of movie piracy on films that aren't garbage is overrated. DVD quality screeners of awards films leak every year, sometimes before the films have even had a chance to go wide. People still go to see them.
The Force Unleashed?
