The unit AI and pathfinding was massively improved in AoE3.

I loved AoM, but that always bugged me, and it was nice to see how much of an upscale AoE3 was in that regard.

Also, people talk about the 'age-up perks' in AoE3 being boring compared to AoM, but the home city mechanic (you know, where you could build you own set of perks) massively trumped that in my opinion.

First time I played around with it I actually thought '...this could be expanded out into a great MMORTS' and now look what we're getting.

EDIT: And I might be late, but it was still worth saying!
