comparing a pc game that runs from 7200RPM HDD to a 360 game which runs through 12x DVD? wow
I could have blamed the tard pack, so maybe the PS3 one will load faster. But at least you can play it from a couch and get vibration, right?

HL2 360 isn't even as good as my mid-range PC-equivalent iMac running it on Boot Camp. 30 seconds to fucking load, I mean christ on a pogo stick, I was going through withdrawls just for putting up with 8 second loading, just because I hate it breaking up the action.

If your PC struggles with it in "720p", then by all means get the 360 one, if there's no other way to play it, but don't try and make excuses and spin shit "30fps LOCKED" (wtf is that crap) for a clearly inferior version.

lol <10 seconds on PC - 30-60 seconds on 360 hahaha
time to remove my HDD from my PC, just to play HL2 from DVD drive on my PC to see if it loads quickly or not.

I'm gonna pick this up for my 360 after playing some PGR4.

WTF is wrong with you?

One version has <10 s load times, the other has up to one minute load times. Fact.

"< 10 s load times" version requires much more expensive hardware than "1 minute load times" version. Fact.

It's up to each person to decide which version he will get. Fact.

Despite bitter tears, PC game is better on PC. Fact.
360 version is acceptable. Fact.
Xbox1 version is a D student. Fact.
PS3 version is late for class. Fact.

are you a retard or something? on the PC you play the game by installing the game on your HDD, on the 360 you're loading the game by using a DVD disc.

guess who's the faster to load this game? ( $20 question )
1- PC 2- 360
3- PC 4- PC

btw, 1up show said HL2 for 360 is amazing. don't know about you.
i'm gonna pick it up for my 'tard pack'.

OF COURSE IT'S FASTER TO LOAD ON THE PC, why do you compare it to the slow DVD discs when you know the FACT that it loads faster on the PC?

Yeah, PC > 360, most people seem to just be getting that down now. Not my fault you have to spend 8x the amount of time loading compared to the PC one just because MS hates hard drives. I know WHY it's faster, everyone does. I'm just glad it's faster :)

The game is STILL amazing, it's fucking HL2 + 4 other games in one box. It's just nowhere near as good on 360 as it is on PC.

no.

i don't have a good pc, i dreamed of playing HL2, now i have the chance to play HL2 and Ep1/Ep2 + other games.

i don't have money for a SUPER PC.

I said PC loading was better and you told me that because they're different (360 doesn't use HDD) that there's no comparison. And there is no comparison, PC version is far and away the superior version. In your case, your PC sucks ass, so you have to settle with the 360 version. It's acceptable, just not the ideal way that HL2 should be experienced.

You had money for a 360. You don't need a SUPER PC, that's Crysis.

Both camps, stop it.

I just came in here to say I knew I was right. No Black Box available on Steam at launch. I knew they were playing word games when they said it would be available on Steam, but would never say the words: "Available on Steam at launch." Glad I prepurchased and have been playing TF2 this whole time.

Portal is SO fucking amazing.

That
entire battle at the end
was incredibly awesome, the sheer
character to each little bobble
was fantastic.

And the
ending credits song was hilarious

For those who avoid spoiler, trust me. I'd be happy to pay full price for this game, it's not long, but it's fucking AWESOME.

No excuse for anyone to not have Orange Box.

The simple fact is there is no excuse to have so much loading in the 360 version of HL2. Specially considering all the other FPS games that looks better and have less loading. Game should have been optimized in that aspect at least.

Orange Box will be purchased....however not see much love due to Halo 3 unfortunately. However my hard drive will be traveling today to work to break in a little achievement session.

Bliddo said:
wait, there's no achievement for Hl2 and Ep1 on pc :(
I'll send you a postcard with the words "You are now 5000 points more valuable than you were before in an abstract and intangible way."

Are you talking about the incremental loading during the mission, or the opening load as you start the game?

30-60 seconds? I think your 360 is having problems. 10 seconds on mine.

if that's true, then Barnolde is having a problem, not his 360.

30 f*cking seconds on 360? This sounds like Sonic the Hedgehog or something.

I'm going to still give it a shot as I want to play it on 360 (even though my PC can handle it with ease), but if the loading is bad enough, I may have to return it.

Of course, that's faster than HL2 was back on the PC in 2004. Loading was awful when it was first released and there was stuttering everywhere...

That's one area where Halo always spoils. The loading in both Halo 2 and Halo 3 is so fast that it never gets in the way. In fact, the loading screen in Halo 3 is so good (best I've ever seen) that you almost wish it would take longer (as it only takes like 5 seconds as it is and that covers the entire level). No high-end PC game can touch it. Do you think Crysis is going to load in 5 seconds? Nope.

Yes, Halo 3 isn't a high end visual experience (though it can be lovely), but ultra short loading times go a long way.

Portal was fun. I'm not too sure if i enjoyed it as everyone else did in the gaf channel on steam. That could have been because i was doing a few different things and not giving it my 100% attention. But a great game anyway.

I really can't wait for custom maps. Going to be insane.

Well, that's good to hear. :)

I seriously think that your average Crysis level will be easily 5 times larger than your average Halo 3 map.

More data means longer loading, it's obvious.

Where's the episode 2 impressions? Is there a seperate thread for it? The game fucking owns, holy shit, it's been fucking awesome so far I'm about 3 hours down.

On PC Half-Life 2 always had rough loading too. I know it seems excessive now that we're used to streaming games, but it's not too bad. It's about a 20 second load pause on my PC.

Does anyone know if Episode One and Episode Two have better loading?

On steam there's no point score though
They're just fun.

Too bad you'll never know since you never seem to play PC games despite being its champion.

Btw for those on their merry way.

Should I play thru Ep2 or Portal first?

I was also wondering this. I heard Portal ties into the Half Life Universe in some way. Would playing one before the other have a greater impact story-wise?

Gabe Newell said in an interview that he would play Portal first, but I don't think it really matters. If I find the source, I'll link it.

I'm have The Orange Box for the 360 and the only long load times is when you choose one of the games (TF2 being the longest). The mid level load times for me take from 7 to 15 seconds the most. If you have a faster PC with a faster HD then of course it will load faster. But it does not take 30 to 60 seconds to load mid level.

last course

I avoided the flames. Announcer says there's going to be a party and i should assume teh position. I wait for whoever it is to come. Am i supposed to do anything here cos nothing is happening

Think about gravity and the portals. Then look way up, over the flamepit. :)
