exactly. all the other games i play run flawlessly. in tf2, the freeze only occurs only after a ranked match and directs you back to the main menu where it freezes sometimes.
all my other games including halo, bioshock, etc run fine.
 
did anyone get the

achievement in episode 1?
if so,
is the bullet used to open a lock in an office where you're trying to find a power box? i don't want to shoot it unless i have to.
 
Has there been any word on downloadable content? The back of the box doesn't say Content Download on the 360 version? Has Valve clarified this?
 
TF2 has froze for me twice as well. Scared the crap out of me, thought my 2 month old 360 might be on the verge.... But the connectivity issues are ridiculous! I think I will just play through the single player stuff and Halo 3 MP until they patch it. I know that you can expect lots of issues upon release with a PC game, but usually console games aren't so buggy when they first come out.

The game has horrid netcode? I've never seen an issues with it yet on PC. One of the most problem free online games I'm playing at the moment.

I remember reading a Valve interview where they said they were already thinking about new classes for TF2 for future DLC.

Of course, with XBLM, they can get away with just a theme and some GamerPics as "Content Download".

But man I'd buy me some TF2 gamerpics....
 
Just finished Ep2 right now. Finished Portal yesterday.

Ep2:
I can't believe they killed Eli. One of my favourite characters, definitely didn't see it coming.

The fight in the tunnels with the vorts/antlions was FUCKING AWESOME. Pulled out the shotty, blowing the crap out of those suckers as they flew through the air. It was like skeet shooting :lol The music only made it better.

Portal:
"Remember when I said 'Goodbye' and you were all 'huh?' and I said 'Sorry I tried to murder you'." Hilarious. There's way too many awesome quotes in there. "Fine. Pick it up and shove it right back in me.":lol

I don't think the back of the box even says Content Download, hence my inquiry.
 
When those three vorts pop out and start kicking ass it seriously gave me some nostalgia bombs. Reminds me so much of the HL1 slave vorts.

I'm talking about the console version, obviously. This peer-to-peer shit + unoptimized netcode = worst lag I've seen on any MP game ever.
 
Played through portal yesterday, thought it was okay but not great. The puzzles where you had to build up momentum by shooting a portal into the ground before you hit it were good. Don't really see what it has to do with Half-Life other than the slide projector easter egg.

Episode 2 is great so far, I just killed the two different antlion guards outside. I should have killed all the grubs early on, I didn't realize they tracked that. :lol

What happened to having all the maps stream in EP2? The maps load same as before.

I think the AI/computer from Portal is on the Borealis.
 
I know the reason HL2 had so many map transitions was because the game could run on systems that only had 256MB of RAM but it would have been cool to be able to load more maps into memory for people that have the capacity for it. I'm not even close to cutting edge but would still like to try an option like that or map streaming even if they had a performance hit disclaimer. The loading screens break up how good of a job they do in actually having the environments interconnected. The way the elevator came up
right behind where Alyx was being healed
was cool and shows they put a lot of thought into the map design.

Is this later in the game? I just started EP2 earlier tonight. Isn't that the name of an ice breaker ship that was supposed to be in HL2?

I just got home from checking a few stores around the Toronto area and they were all sold out. :( Not only that but apparently all the copies they recieved were french.

I'm assuming this is old news for you guys but why exactly are we stuck buying La Boîte Orange instead of The Orange Box?

Edit: So this IS the english version, they just (accidently?) made the french text more prominent on the cover?

not sure. i just checked and there arent any on the PC version as it stands now.

does the 360 have achievements for regular HL2? it would be nice if Steam added them for us.

Yeah, it was sent out with the Quebec printed cover but the game inside is in English.
 
Alright this is a really long thread and so I can't seem to find it. Is there ANY way to get just Portal, TF2, and Ep 2 for less than the whole box cost? Do any of you seeing the prices dropping dramatically in the future? I already have full Half Life 2 and Ep 1.
 
oh my god peggle extreme was so good. all the half-life stuff had me smiling the whole time. really polished game too like most popcap games. this one has a really awesome bizarre sense of humor. don't think i'll be buying the full thing but those ten levels were a treat.
 
....jesus....for every somewhat consistant, semi lag-free game in TF2, you get 3 or 4 of them that either crash flat out or are just sooo fucking laggy its unplayable.....

Wow, I'm surprised. Though I imagine that there's no way to tie this into a Windows Live account and earn gamerpoints... unless you play the X360 version, of course.

Nope. They cancelled the black box at retail and also ditched selling an equivalent of it through Steam (which I could have sworn they said they were going to, but it's been so long who knows). If you're in the U.S. get it at Circuit City for $37.99 tomorrow before the sale ends. The black box would have been $29.99 anyway. I'm glad Circuit City did this because I also already have HL2 and EP1, I'm not entirely crazy about Portal, and it'll probably be Thanksgiving before I have time to play TF2. The individual prices on Steam are a joke so you might as well get the orange box retail.

Nah, they are handled through Steam so there is no XBL crossover.
 
I just finished ep2 and holy shit. The ending is just riveting. They have npc voice acting animations and just dialogue down to a science. The gunplay seemed to get a little better.... but is still not just there yet. The load times suck, Just wow 1680x1050 with 8xmsaa the game has subtle beauty and more. :D cant wait for episode 3 (and it will probobly be another 3 years)

Use the grav gun to hold onto a log or something and catch the fleshettes on that, then launch that at the hunter. Then you'll get the achievement.

I don't care if this a game primarily developed for the PC- these aren't control issues or framerate issues, etc. after all. The game is freezing my entire console; there's no excuse for that.
 
that's weird, and it hasn't happened to me, traveler.

i was playing hl2: episode 1 earlier, got an invite to tf2, went and played without any issues whatsoever for about an hour

Well, it doesn't really happen that often. (Maybe once per 4 hours of the game) It's just annoying when it does. (and it doesn't happen with any other part of the Orange Box or any other online games for me.)
