"The Freeman Returns" with The Official Orange Box Thread

Worked like a charm you guys. Fucking awesome. I have to say, this game puts me in a lot more frustrating parts than HL2. A lot of growling. I just kicked back and listened to
Doc Kleiners whole shpiel in the safehouse
and then played some TF2.

This has some fun, car stompin' partner snipin' achievements, I have to say. Then I scrolled down and saw the last one...

And I thought Ravenholm was a tough achievement.

It's not that hard, got it on my first playthrough. Alyx does a lot of work and you get acquianted with your old friend, the grav gun. Since the first 2 chapters are grav gun only and there ore other parts where you can easily use only explosives... It's pretty easy to get.

The only HL² achievement that was remotely hard to get was Neigborhood Watch in Ep2, but even that is just a save/load affair.

Medal challenges in Portal, that's where the controllers hit the ground

does anybody know whats happening with the PS3 version? first it was November, then December and now some sites are saying January

I don't even think pics were ever released.

I can't to install my orange box =( As a matter of fact, I can't even open steam. I get this error:

"Steam.exe(main exception): unable to load library steam.dll"

anyone know a fix? I've installed steam a couple of times now, all give the same result...

Shitting fuck. I really hope the PS3 version releases in December...if not, what will I play during my Christmas break?
damned Smash Bros. delay :/

When people say they beat Portal in 1:30/2:00/poopoopeepee, is that actual playing time or game counting time. When I beat it the game counter said 2:15, but it seemed like it was more like 4, counting deaths and everything. I don't see how someone could beat it in 1:30, first time through.

im currently playing 12vs12 on TF2 on Xbox live. i thought it was 16player max. how is this possible?

Did they release a new update or something? Doesn't seem to make sense considering that the game is still facing TONS of connection problems. Studdering, lag, dropped games, etc.

i kid you not, i came in and i was like the 22nd person to come in. i first though it was a glitch or something because the list of names in the lobby could not all fit in the screen. But clearly showed 12 on 12. when the game started there were clearly 12 players on my team. And almost all the players we're asking how this was possible.
...and the great thing? lag free.

After I finished Portal this morning I started playing HL2 again (stopped at the beach in the xbox version) and I had this innate urge for making portals. I had the same thing when I played my first new game after Gears of War, where I just tapped A to slide from cover to cover but it wouldn't work :(

diAlso changed Reloading to the RB (Right Bumper) to mimic Halo 3s reloading and works much better and faster.

Wow, only 1.1% of players have sent the gnome into space. It's also surprising that only 44% have even gotten to the last map of Ep2.

FOR ANYONE LIKE ME WHO HAS TAKEN THEIR SWEET TIME ON EP 2 BECAUSE YOU'RE PLAYING TF 2 SO MUCH:

Do not read Shawn's interviews with the Valve folks in the new GFW. The Ep 2 spoiler in it is very big, and the text warning you about it is very small.

It's so big I'm not putting it here, but I'm sure most of you can guess what it is.

<sigh> At least it's spurred me to get back to finishing Ep 2, I guess.

Just finished Portal today, and I think it deserves a lot of the praise it's getting. I think it was the right length, well designed, yadda yadda. I think the difficulty was just right too... a challenge, but very beatable.

As for Half-Life 2, it just feels so much like work... I'm grinding my way through Water Hazard, and it's OK, but I don't know. I find the shooter aspect pretty unsatisfying, and the puzzle aspect really doesn't speak to me.

I'm sure it gets better, but it's kind of a hard situation in that there's this flood of quality shooters that has come out this year... so even though it really is an old game, it's what I invariably compare it to. Guess it's time to soldier on.

I'm really amazed how good Half-Life 2 looks: very consistent, clear, sharp and everything feels part of the world, nothing 'icky'. Runs very smooth too. So glad I waited and didn't continue on the xbox version and 5.1 makes the sound so much better than what I remember from the xbox version.

Did you have to dl a patch before playing? If not they probably added it in that patch from a while back.

I found the looks to be pretty uneven. City 17 stunned me with its ability to make me feel like I was right there [partly technical and partly brilliant art design], but some objects of the game have really aged badly. The rifle that Father Grigory holds up, for example, looked like a [bad] Xbox 1-era gun.

No big deal, perhaps, but seeing those little problems yanked me out of the world and reminded me how old the original HL2 is. I'm almost done with Ep 2, though, and it's a stunner.

:lol

That red dot is from the (probably) thousands of players who plunged to their death at the very beginning of Episode 2. After the shockwave destroyed the bridge I just assumed that the canyon was blocked off, so I headed in the other direction...right off a cliff. I guess I'm not the only one.

You mean the 2D sky background right in front of your face didn't tip you off that it was a dead-end? :lol

the only patch i d/l was the first patch that came out a few weeks ago.

i played a few more rounds today and was lucky enough to get a 12on12 again. forgive me for the horrible capture. for the life of me i couldn't find my camera in time, so i used my webcam instead. i didn't catch the 12on12 i speak of, but i did capture 11vs11 and the other on 9vs9. And still the amazing thing was the lack of lag or any dropped players. 12vs12 was simply chaotic, crazy and fun!

this one i paused during a game in dustbowl. as you can see 18 players were playing. and shows noone is spectating. there were 3 players without a score yet because they barely came in, and that's when i took the capture.

this one is during game menu. shows 11vs11. all 22 couldn't be shown, like i previously mentioned.

Damn. Guess my connection just isn't good enough to get those servers to show up. What time of day was it for you?

my connection is only standard dsl. It was around 11pm PST. A lot of 16 player matches i've experienced are hammered with lag, but all the 16+(18, 24) matches have been smooth as silk. i wonder if this is an intended glitch by valve.:lol

I just played through Episode 2 for the second time, and I noticed this picture hanging on the wall in the communications room
at White Forest where you watch Judith's transmission

I'll try and post a bigger pic later, but that's all I can do at the moment.

So, does anyone know whose face is crossed out?

Yikes, I guess I'm one of the few that listen to the commentary. Hopefully Valve continues doing it.
That's disheartening. :( I love the commentary track!

The same pic is also in Kleiner's lab in HL2.

The guy to the left of Breen looks like his face got stuck in mid-teleport.

Am i just online on the wrong time or is TF2 being neglected by a lot of 360 owners?
I have been playing this game since saturday and i having a lot of problems finding a ranked match.

There are like 2 or 3 matches i can join (mostly with bad connection). Sometimes there aren't even any ranked matches going on at all!!.

Never expected a new game to have this few players tbh. Especially a great package like this one. Even Chromehounds, which i bought 1 year after release, has more people playing :-/

Finished Orange Box (haven't played TF2 cause Live Gold sub ran out).

The game grabbed my attention for the entire time. The star is without a doubt Alyx, always liked it when she was around. Never bitchy or arrogant. Never this "Oh I'm a woman look at how tough I am, I'm so tough bla bla bla" like Lara Croft (seriously, I really don't like her. Played the latest Tomb Raider game and she annoyed me). No, she's just really nice and kicks ass. Favorite moment with her was in EP1 where she found a shotgun in that hospital, music started, zombies came pouring in and we started kicking their ass.

Valve knows a thing or two about mixing up the combat and keeping variety, especially with the big guys.

Feels like quite the journey playing through those 3 games in such a short time.

It should run pretty good since these games are optimized well. I don't know too much about mobile graphics cards, but its a 7000 series card so you should be good.
