The Game Awards 2015 Thread: Keighley's Last Supper

It was a joke.

Man....you guys take all of this way to seriously. It was a fine show. Good work Geoff.
It did come off as a bit mean because just two minutes ago Kiefer was on stage talking about how he's amazed by the MGS fans and their support.

But I agree, it's not that huge of a deal as some make it out

Say what you will about the award show as a whole, I still have tons of respect for Keighley and what's he's doing with it since Spike. His no-bullshit Konami jab was a bold move and I respect him for it.

You're too late but it was locked like her liquor cabinet should have been.

Those retweets too.

I feel like I'm dreaming.

What is this? I sometimes like Jim but this seems bizarre.

So of the GOTY nominees both BB and fallout were shutout?

Good for CD Projekt RED! I haven't played the game yet but everything I feed about that dev team is great! Seem like awsome people!

Is there like a major company backing these award shows? I can't fathom the cost flying out hundreds of people to LA and the viewership for the show was 150k concurrent peak on twitch. How do they get a return on investment with this type of award show

YouTube had pretty decent numbers too. And people will watch it in reruns as well.

Drop the shitty adverts, have some better, more fitting music, pace your awards and guests better, make a bigger deal out of the awards on stage, get at least 1 or 2 big premiers, sort out your voting process. There is my feedback.

How would they do that? presenter, montage, award, speech. Been that way since the dawn if time. They didnt even play anyone off when they ran long

Where? He stated it on a stream

And? He doesn't have shareholder control of one of the biggest corporations in the gaming world.

It is entirely likely that they had agreed on something which then later did not pan out.

People really think this industry is a lot simpler and straight forward than it really is...

Those of you saying this was a complete abomination clearly have erased the Spike awards from your memories. This is much, much better and Geoff seems to genuinely care about getting it to a fully respectable place. Chill with the angry nerd schtick.

That said, the Jade Raymond thing was pure gold.

Jade was the best part of the show. More presenters should be get incredibly drunk before presenting, makes the whole thing bearable.

Thought the show was fine. It had it's misses, like Jade, but it had some nice moments, too, like the short feature on the Industry Icon, the time dedicated to Iwata and the public shaming of Konami for preventing Kojima from even attending the show. Those saying it was "terrible" and the like need to either grow up or come back down to planet Earth. Putting something like this together isn't easy, major props to Geoff for continuing to deliver. Here's hoping support for the show continues to grow along with the industry.

Saying the "nice thing from Nintendo" was the Iwata tribute is a pretty fucking awful excuse. Because I can guarantee you he knew what the reaction would be. And because he talked about the Iwata tribute seperately later. And because he had numerous opportunities to try and clear up the misunderstanding after it spread throughout the internet

EA and Microsoft paid for most it . I highly many get free flights. Its just a marketing write off for them.

Hey, guys. Learn some shit. Show was streamed across a ton of platforms. 150k + other platforms = more than 150k. Just saying.

Barring the last 15 or so minutes it was actually pretty damn excellent and a big improvement over last year.

Then there was MGSV Kojima drama, Jade making one of the most unprofessional appearances of her career, and ending on a Deadmau5 snorefest.

That's the thing about endings, they leave the final impression. It took away from the Iwata and Westwood tributes, and some of the cool announcements like free Shadow Complex and Psychonauts 2.

Geoff had 110 minutes of a great show but then that ending left a sour taste in everyone's mouth.

Undertale not winning anything
RuYH0.gif

I'm okay with it losing all of the categories it was actually nominated for as I think the ones that did win were arguably better. Emphasis "arguably"- I didn't personally like the games that beat it more than Undertale, but I can see why they won over it.

The fact that it wasn't even nominated for best music is a fucking crime, though. It should have won that shit by unanimous vote. I liked MGSV, but Undertale beats the absolute fucking shit out of it in the music department.

Overall, good awards, though the exclusives were pretty weak save for Psychonauts 2.

It's a shame Undertale and Bloodborne didn't get anything. But it shows how great this year has been, Im sure it was hard for the jury.

After watching the Jade Raymond segment again I'm thinking the envelope actually said "Viva Seifert - The Witcher 3". Jade's reaction was even like "The Witcher 3?". I think she's simply like Ron Burgundy and will read word for word whatever is in front of her. lol. So I think that part was probably not entirely her fault.

It wasn't that long ago though. And if it wasn't a done deal he should've made it clear.

Don't get why everyone is scrutinizing Jade so much over being a lil drunk on stage. Not really a big deal, chill folks, it's a dumb games awards night

Although it petered out at the end, this is a good base to build upon.

I love the idea of giving the developers behind video games the spotlight, it's a HUGE form of media in the world these days, and will only get bigger as time goes on.

It's fair to have your opinion of Geoff and the ads of the show, but without both it wouldn't really be possible.

If the award show grows as a platform truly it's better for us gamers? Maybe it'll reach a point where true megatons are dropped in the show even, big game announcements/trailers.
