The Game Awards 2015 Thread: Keighley's Last Supper

MMarston

Was getting caught part of your plan?
Missed the show but going by the comments I've been skimming through, I need Lionel Mandrake recap of the fuckery that went on here.

I gotta say though - everyone commenting on Sutherland like Jade cut him deep or something like he hasn't heard a metric FUCKTON of hate over his role as Snake already.

Like he gives a shit. Just smelting that trophy down into a sherlock and finding Hamill so they can bluntman the fuck outta the back room.

For some reason when Jade first said it I thought she was making a point that Kef did a good job. Just for a second though. Ironic kind of thing.

Man

its embarrassing

This is an awards show and people were throwing around low blows just like the idiots on the net who harass developers over their work. Have some professionalism ! No wonder gaming has such a bad stereotype when the people at the top cant act civilized for a few hours.

Reggie, even though im not a huge new age Nintendo fan you are one class act.
Have you seen the Oscars before? There are 10x as many low blows.

As an awards show, it was great. Guys this isn't E3 or some big conference, it should be like any other awards show.

Bloodborne is really niche and how many metal gears have been made but your knocking witcher because another game happened to come out?

Wow.

After 25 years in gaming witcher is the first rpg I've really fallen for so I'm happy for it and CD red

Bloodborne is niche but not as Niche as Ori and the Blind Forest, it's sold over 2 million copies. I understand its a really difficult game but it should have won at least one award.

The art in Bloodborne and detail on the bosses are insane.

I dunno, pretty mediocre overall. Geoff is a terrible presenter on-camera. Hand in his pocket or crossed over his chest, very stiff, eyes cast down and rarely looking at the camera. Pacing was all off. Geoff casually announcing some winners as he did was just off-putting as well.

Westwood and Iwata tributes though were good.

Agreed on him as a presenter. It felt akward watching him. He would look everywhere and acted as if he was about to have a nervous break down O_O

I really can't feel anything but disdain for Kayleigh given that he straight up lied about there being Nintendo news

He said we would see something nice from Nintendo.

Then he said people were taking his words out of context in a huge thread that totally ignored his sentence and gaffers went on and on about ye 'ole meme games.

It's not his fault.

So much salt in here.
For real I don't get it either.

A) jade thing was low but not crazy

B) show wasn't fantastic but I'm appreciative it's not like the spike ones. This actually has sincere moments in it

C) these shows have glorified ads. You aren't imagining things or uncovering some secret agenda. But this is how these shows get paid

that's what it takes to have moments like the westwood vids and iwata tributes.

I find the BAFTAs more entertaining than this ad-riddled garbage. That show is ACTUALLY about the nominees and the winners.

Uh huh.

It's streamed every year.
It's a dumb comparison. Game Awards isn't trying to be the Academy Awards of Gaming. It's much more on the level of the fluff Awards shows. Watching this and expecting otherwise is just dumb.

The whole Jade thing was blown way out of proportion. It really wasn't that bad - seemed like there was a mistake with the envelope.

The David Hayter joke was hilarious.

Nah, The Game Awards 2015 was pretty much the mid-90s Source Awards of this industry. Eastern Hemisphere/Western Hemisphere beef in full effect, and Jade Raymond held it down for the Canadians

Shots were fired.

There's a reason they were popular too, every year you expected drama. Did it matter who won best hip hop album of the year? Nope, it was all about Snoop dissing Death Row and Suge Knight.

There may be will some that watch the 2016 TGAs with those expectations. And much like the Source Awards, less important people will show up.

Sterling was joking. You don't think Kojima is the type of person that would enjoy receiving an award for the last time he'll ever work on a Metal Gear game?

True. Or Sterling didn't think it out that far and just disliked the show. But I don't follow him too much so I'll take your word for it.

Huh, there's something weird. I'm not seeing who won best shooter mentioned anywhere, on the TGA's site they have all the winners highlighted except for that one: http://thegameawards.com/nominees/

What the hell happened?

Haha Geoff got so caught up in bagging on Konami he forget to announce who won best shooter.

But really, it might be the other award Splatoon won when the announcer woman said they had also won the same award they were receiving.

Man, I really wonder sometimes how some people on Gaf get through life being so damn miserable. I thought the show was real solid overall, I honestly don't expect publishers to reveal huge games at this thing anymore due to the fact that it's not on television anymore (which is weird in the age we live in), expecting it to be another E3 on any level is setting yourself up for nothing but disappointment.

My only real gripe personally is that announcing hugely desired games but then throwing in the crowed funding stuff right at the end seems in bad taste to me. If that's how you want to play the announcement the fact that your asking for the cash to make the game should be the first screen of the trailer imo.

Also thought the tribute to Iwata was really well done and I'm not even much of a Nintendo fan. I think it's very obvious how much effort Geoff puts into this show and I have a lot of respect for his passion in doing it.

Lastly as always...Fuck Konami

I thought it was pretty bad compared to last year, but that Iwata farewell stopped it from being completely awful, also can never get enough of Konami getting a public fuck you.

Drop the shitty adverts, have some better, more fitting music, pace your awards and guests better, make a bigger deal out of the awards on stage, get at least 1 or 2 big premiers, sort out your voting process. There is my feedback.

lol
You guys are too much. Have fun being upset at a award show.

I don't really give a fuck about the awards though, since in general stuff like this isn't all that relevant to my tastes. Same with every goddamn "world premier" they showed. The main reason I was watching was because we were promised Nintendo news

Did you know Halo invented the FPS?
Is there like a major company backing these award shows? I can't fathom the cost flying out hundreds of people to LA and the viewership for the show was 150k concurrent peak on twitch. How do they get a return on investment with this type of award show
