I don't see what Microsoft get out of it? They never win but they turn up and give legitimacy to the products that do. Nintendo walked away, giving them the perfect chance to do the same but they still stubbornly go and have Phil Spencer meme'd for being salty.
They do their own shows and could easily whip up some pre Christmas stuff to drive sales, yet someone there must believe that there is benefit to being perpetual losers right before Christmas year after year.
