Absolutely nothing from Nintendo
Nintendo Direct anytime soon?

Maybe for third party games. I can't imagine Nintendo have any more first party surprises for the Switch.

The next big one will be the Switch 2 reval, which I'm expecting in Feb/Mar.

I don't see what Microsoft get out of it?
What so they shouldn’t even be there if they don’t think they’ll win?
They won the sound design and voice acting for Hellblade 2, which will likely be out on PS5 soon, and Fallout TV show got an award, which will get a 2nd season, and they were there to do some Indiana Jones PR, which was just released on Xbox and PC and will be out first half of 2025 on PS5. It’s all PR.

Why I have a feeling I will play most of this games on my Ps6 ... my decision to not buy the pro is becoming progressively hard to regret.

Exactly! Any PR they gain from it is dwarfed by the PR Sony gets. No one gives a fuck about the Sony only shows, they are widely derided each time but a show where Sony beats MS, that gets eyeballs and people talking, and it only happens because MS set themselves up as the whipping boy.

The game awards lose all prestige or relevance when it just becomes Geoff fawning over PlayStation but Microsoft kid themselves into thinking it also makes them relevant by being there. People spent the night cheering Capcom and Sony, and that's all that's left if there are no Rockstar, Activision, Nintendo, Blizzard or Xbox making even a token showing. So why go and get the negativity and not the praise?

You’re overreacting. All nominees for all awards are literally there and get praised for their quality. It’s always good PR. Plus as said they won a couple awards and were there unveiling The Outer Worlds 2 and did some PR for Indiana Jones with Harrison Ford etc. Microsoft is also on other platforms now so even if TGA would turn into an event with ”Geoff fawning over PlayStation” it would still be important for Microsoft to be there.

I know it should not matter, but I don't think I have ever been this triggered before by a good game not even getting one win during this presentation. I even told myself in advance that Stellar Blade was not going to win everything, but it still has me hit anyway.

It's a travesty that XVI won anything last year and Rebirth got a few nominations and only came away with best OST. I recognize Metaphor must be excellent, but I don't think people realize how Rebirth scaled up the traditional JRPG to modern standards in a way other studios just haven't done. It definitely deserves more recognition.

You mean the imbalance of it all considering by most all metrics Rebirth is a much better game? Yeah, I can see how that sucks to see happen. But I think the team'll get their flowers for sure once the trilogy wraps up.

If not, then there'll probably be a reckoning.

Stellar Blade did get snubbed but, there are other award shows where it'll win some stuff and I think it already has. TGAs aren't the end-all-be-all in saying what games matter, after all.

The bigger surprise to me was Nintendo getting completely snubbed. On one hand I think it's interesting they lost Best Family Game to Astro Bot because IMO that just reinforces the reality of Astro being that good. Nintendo isn't owed awards as the defacto family-friendly gaming brand just because they're kind of the only ones who care to do it & do it right these days. I mean there was a time where PlayStation 1P was competing very well with Nintendo's stuff in those segments, I think Astro Bot reminded some that the talent for feel-good, family-friendly game vibes is still there, it just didn't have a lot of opportunity to do much until more recently.

At the same time, Jamboree was a big hit and is the best Mario Party in many years, I thought that'd of netted the game at least one award. Ah well. Anyway I'm really excited to see what Nintendo's launch year for Switch 2 will be because chances are a new Mario'll be there and they can certainly outdo Astro Bot with their next outing. Well, unless it's another Sunshine scenario or New SMB-type 2D game.

I'm all for an Astro Bot/Mario friendly rivalry and hopefully Sonic back in there too if Sonic Team can stick to some fundamentals and build on them properly.

Guess we'll see, but I strongly feel like this was the year for Rebirth. It was the comeback story from all of the Remake critics who thought it didn't feel like Final Fantasy (because they only adapted the game through Midgar). Rebirth is not the type of game that would win over the typical Sony-type games that win at these award shows. It was a fantastic year for JRPGs and I guess I just wish they would become more relevant to the general public again, like how maybe 3D platformers could get a boost from Astro Bot winning.

Yeah, I was surprised that Zelda did not win anything also. I also expected Silent hill to nab sound and/or atmosphere. I knew that Stellar Blade would not win Goty because of the salty twitter and era types that run the business, but I was surprised it did not win best music at a minimum. Guess the powers that be just hated its success that much. Black Myth Wukong should have won one or two more, even though I have yet to play that game, sadly.

Was really hoping for more Samurai type games, so I am happy that Onimusha is coming back. I did hope for a Nioh 3, though if only because I like making my own character.

Well BMW basically won the Player's Choice GOTY, so that has to make the team feel good. I dunno if they had a Best Action Game category but they should. If they had one this year BMW would've probably taken it too.

Stellar Blade got shafted because while it turned out to be a great game and pretty good success, Black Myth Wukong just kind of overshadowed it with selling a shitload of copies and being of generally similar quality in a somewhat similar action game space. Unfortunate in the case of Stellar Blade but hey it happens sometimes. They've got strong groundwork laid out for a sequel though which should do even better. Could also probably get an anime series in the near future, I think SB would be a good fit for that.

Really the TGAs need more categories, I think that got exposed this year. Best Horror, Best Multiplayer (traditional), Best Action, even something like Best Boss Fight or Best Level, I don't see why those can't be categories to add. They should listen to those two muppets on this; trim down the musical performances and commercial breaks, have more actual game awards.

Even the Orchestra did not feel that great this around which has been one of the highlights for me. Even Epic Flute Guy was not so epic this time around. The last two years he went ham. My experience with the game awards only goes back 5 years, but last years seemed better than this years and felt weak for a 10-year celebration. The best parts ended up being Geoff getting roasted.

Have you guys followed up on this story? The cute innocent guy that wants to help people get jobs after being fired....starting a tiny YT channel to hopefully just help the whole world for free....is a big shot at Tencent, worked at huge gaming companies and was responsible for firing the same people he now says he helps get jobs. Dude is a total fraud and now he turned off comments on his YT channel lol.

Sooo... whatever happened to that PRAGMATA game Capcom?
It's gone to the same place as Deep Down.

I think there's a very real chance that Nintendo has 0 Switch only games left to announce. Everything new will have a Switch 2 version and so they'll wait to announce the console in Q1 next year.

Do we know that no one from Rockstar, ABK or Nintendo were in attendance?

Microsoft and other companies have been at the Game Awards for years, I don't think the prestige of the event is really limited by a few companies not being there this year (if they weren't).

I think the claim that he got these people fired is a huge leap without further context and research. The wild part to me is that the TGAs framed him as some random guy who just loved games and had no connection to the industry. That's insanely disingenuous if he's a Tencent exec.

Watched it live, rewatched it today to make sure I didn't miss anything. I was just whelmed. Neither over nor under. I guess I'm getting old and jaded but none of the announcements really made me excited about anything. Witcher 4 with Ciri was nice. I liked the retrofuture 80's vibe of Intergalactic but the rest of it was painfully generic. Borderlands 4... after 3 and Wonderlands, any future Borderlands game is in "wait for sale" territory. The opening to The Outer Worlds 2 trailer made me laugh at least. I'll get more hyped about the Okami sequel when it actually has more to show -- lest it become another Beyond Good and Evil 2 situation.

Of all of them, the one I think I was most interested in was Split Fiction. Which sucks because I really don't have a coop partner to play it with. But it looks like it could be great.

Holy shit! The end is insane.

"For them to release a game like Hellblade 2 and for Astro Bot to win GOTY....get the fuck out here with that shit"
Snl Season 47 GIF by Saturday Night Live

That's one of most delusional takes I've ever heard.
Makes you wonder would they be surprised that the only game in that pair wins GOTY? It's right there in the title?

I fully admit to being irrationally salty about Stellar Blade getting no wins (should have won music), Silent Hill 2 only getting one(right?) Black Myth did ok with two, but still salty for reasons beyond my understanding, Zelda not getting anything. I think ff7 rebirth got one or two? Only game reveals I cared for was Onimusha and maybe screamer.

My history with the game awards only goes back 3 of the 10 years it has been a thing, and I am normally not salty because they really don't matter. Guess I got way too invested this time.

Bro, I remember when the TGAs were on Spike TV but it's weird because I don't ever see Geoff or anybody mention those ones. They had some wild segments, some of them are up on Youtube.

I also remember the 2012 show when Geoff was co-hosting with that comedian and was uncomfortable because the comedian kept making fun of all the layers of clothes he was wearing throughout the show. Gotta see if someone has that uploaded, good times.
