GIVE ME NOW!!!

aaaaaaaaaand its over.

Well, DS news, Zelda news, and Virtual Console news...

All big in its own right.

But No Rev news at all :( Dammit, I wanted a name.
So, its more like firecrackers then bombadroppin' :)

Okay, sorry for not posting anything after Zelda, things got really hectic. FYI: Zelda looks fantastic. Currently hoping Ninty updates their press site with a new press kit like they did last year.

# 11:45- Iwata continued - Wi-Fi and DS disrupted the gaming industry. Games are meant to be one thing, that is fun.
# 11:45- Play and see the Revolution at E3
# 11:46- No Revolution demo shown at GDC, no new logo, or official name for the system. Much more at E3. 0 0 0 0

I wouldn't go that far. The only real surprise is the (relatively insignificant) TurboGrafx nod. Sega emulation had been hinted at previously.

The only thing that really got me is when he admitted that the Revmote was going to be expensive to produce (hints they won't be making a big margin off it, at that).

Edit:
"Future Zeldas, Marios and Metroids will be bigger masterpieces than ever before - but this doesn't have to be the only business model, he says. Virtual Console is the videogames version of iTunes Music Store. Others will offer such a service, but it won't be the same."

Too bad that iTunes is ubiquitous only because it's (relatively) platform-independent. It plays on a majority of players (iPods) and a majority of desktops (windows, mac). If Rev doesn't get the market share you can't make that claim, though it's definitely nice that they want to be the iTunes equivalent in downloads.

Bleh. This was a waste of time. Bombzaldroppenton my ass.

Genesis confirmation is good news, but this isn't a surprise. Merrick practically leaked it 6 months ago.

And Zelda was an inevitability. I couldn't have imagined anything but a cel-shaded zoomed out 3D / overhead view for it either.

Genesis and Turbografx downloads? Megaton!!! For me, at least.
For a lot of people on this board, I think. Including me.

I used to own Nintendo consoles, so I only wanted a few games on old Nintendo consoles. But Megadrive and PCEngine... I need a memory upgrade, 512Mo is not enough !

Sega and Hudson are both Live Arcade devs, and I'm sure they are working on Sony's alternative as well. I wouldn't expect exclusives unless somebody gets out the moneyhat.

Yeah, but there has been no indication (at least that I've seen) that XBLA will do console classics. I expect to see Sega arcade classics on XBLA (which is great in it's own right) but I'm not sure we'll see a library of Genesis and TG16 games on 360 or PS3. Who knows though (and in my mind who really cares, since I'm getting them all anyway)

No 'official' name for the Revolution? I'm thinking that they're sticking with 'Revolution' then.

Can't wait to see some solid, non-blurry images/video of Zelda DS! That is awesome news! And it's going to release by the end of the year? How likely is it that Iwata meant for North America?

TG16 & Genesis FTW!

No news on when NA will see the DSLite or its NA price? I was kind of hoping for that... I guess I'll assume day & date with New Super Mario Bros...

/me puts TurboDuo and Genesis on eBay
I'm willing to bet no Sega CD/Turbo CD stuff tho, so no Dracula X :(

Also...
19:37: "Some people put their money on the screen; we decided to put ours on the game interface" - although producing the controller will be expensive, he says.
A warning/hint about price?

Okay, the big news is MORE Zelda, and more old games for the Rev? Both nice, but I sure hope that wasn't it.

It's great that we'll have a very juicy retro catalogue. But for me the big news, and I do think it's big news, is that Nintendo also opens up for indie developers creating low-cost games and getting them available for download. I can't wait... if this means we can get small, cheap, crazy games featuring the rev controller... that will be so fucking great.

Also, what does this mean.. "In a few weeks, you will play and see and understand our philosophy."

Zelda DS (this year!) and Genesis/TurboGrafx/Other downloads.

Hmmm.

After careful deliberation, I judge this to be sufficient Bomzaldroppen for a developer's conference. Still a touch disappointed, though. E3 is a long way off.

So that's it?

only new info is the DS Zelda?

glad i was not all worked up for Rev news. or i might be let down about now.

KOTAKU:

Iwata just announced the Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass designed exclusively for the DS and will launch later this year. (I’ll have a short shaky cam up in bit.)

why cant they get SS or dreamcat games along with genesis games?

If Rev can handle N64 games, it can handle SS games.

The issue I think is that SS games are large (CD) compared to N64 games, plus to this day Saturn emulators appear to be really hard to make well.

that is a mis-quote. He was actually referring to the development of the controller in general, and how they didn't focus on the graphics as a result.

Oh come on, it's a conference for games developers, not E3. This is more than I expected.

Disappointing! :(

Genesis and all is fine, Zelda was expected and people are acting like they are surprised by this news. :/

Meh...

E3 cant come soon enough.

Maybe Sega doesn't want that?

Did you forget that the GDC isn't E3? Totally different place, totally different focus.

Zelda DS was expected? I didn't read anything this week that said the new Zelda game would be shown today. =\
Sure it was expected for the DS, but I don't remember any place saying today. That is like saying you wouldn't be suprised if the new Smash Brothers was shown today. I mean, it has been announced and all.

I'd imagine it would have something to do with having to stream those large games through WFC. Could be difficult.

knowing them prob june or july

you know what, I was never considering it before, but if revolution come in at a cheap price point and the genesis and tg16 selection is decent, and lots of tiny xbla style games, even flash style games for super cheap, I'm totally getting one. the fact that they mentioned itunes too as a model for download management... man, they got me. fucking nintendo.

Hey I posted that press release info first... get all yours outta here! :)

So much for that crap about Joust being better than the entire Virtual Console lineup. Anyone think we'll get XBLA ports? It'd be awesome if an entire subgeneration formed within our next gen consoles.

+ Zelda DS
+ Sega/TurboGraphx Emulation
+ New indie games downloadable from VC

- No DSLite date/price
- Focus on Brain Training
- No Zelda:TP

---

I rate this a non-event.

Indie games....indie games making a triumphant entrance into the console market.. I couldn't be happier about ANYTHING. NOT A THING.

And you twerps... in the pre-show interview Iwata said he'd spare Rev news. _Still_ you act all ": (" yada yada about not enough news? When we actually get some nice news and learn this whole download games thing isn't a simple feature!
