The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

I wonder how that $239.99 life-time subscription to Star Trek Online is treating him.

He also bought that DJ Hero Renegade Edition that was $200.

So did I :(

Wasn't that the one where he was trying to explain to the girl at the counter why he was buying the game a second time and at four times the price?

The sad thing is that Jeff's spending habits remind me of my own.

I look at Jeff and see my future self... I can't wait to have all that cool stuff with nowhere to put it!

Argh, why is Giant Bomb down. Stupid Error 37.

Edit: And if Gamespot isn't paying for every bit of his video game expenditures, I don't even know what to say.

every game room game came with a trial version

remember that

im pretty sure he mentions that fact a few times early on. and even once or twice in the later game room episodes.

I think Jeff should go back and start the process over again... but this time, he should buy all the PC versions of the games.

Just pick three random 2600 or Intellivision games a week and pretend it's still happening. He can even throw in an early arcade game here and there for flavor. Oh, and mail Microsoft $3 per game.

...He's going to quick look the Virtua Fighter costumes? Nice try at attempting to be smart.

Yep, because nowhere in that quicklook did he try and access the modes that required him to buy the costume DLC. Nope. Not even once. He just bought it and never tried to do anything with it.

Did it? From what I remember, the pricing structure of Game Room was super weird in that you could buy "tokens" and play games like they were real arcade games, and you got a number of tokens for free just by downloading Game Room. But you'd eventually run out of tokens.

Either way, that's different, because Jeff's always had an attachment to games that are too old for me to understand why anyone would still like them. I can imagine a scenario where he was buying a lot of those games out of legitimate interest in having them forever and after a point it just became a sense of trying to complete a "collection", you know?

Plus, again, its his job. There's also probably some sense that he has to buy these games because that's what you do. They don't do quicklooks for XBLA free trials. On very rare occasions they used to do quicklooks for demos, but there hasn't been a demo they've quicklooked in years.

All of that stuff is, technically speaking, a business expense. It's not like Jeff is forgoing eating or electricity to pay for this stuff.

I wouldn't be concerned.

This. If it provides them with a funny video it's already worth it.

Also, I thought it was pretty cool he wanted to support this game.

I found it more bizarre than neither he nor Brad seemed to recognise it was one of those downloads you have to leave running, rather than one that gets added to active downloads. Have they really never come across that when buying/downloading DLC?

Jeff specifically said, "This is 2gb, which is the same size as the game, so it's probably one of those downloads that will instantly finish, right?"

Which, yeah, 2-4gb of costume data seems a bit excessive.

I thought that looked pretty good. I mean, yeah it's super derivative but it's pretty and the gravity mechanic is interesting. It's also $20 right now.

Jeff and Ryan's jaded, crotchety gimmick is getting pretty old. At least Vinny, Brad, and Patrick come to things with an open mind.

Yeah, they're usually the worst about it. I'm gonna watch the QL in a moment but Timeshift was a great b-grade experience. I forgot Inversion was even out.

By all accounts, the game actually is pretty awful, they're certainly not alone there.

Multiplayer with only one other guy was hilarious.

Poor guy. He bought that POS and was just trying to have a good time playing some multiplayer and when he finally found someone to play with Jeff just quits on him.

I think my favorite part was at 15:45.

"Aww God damn it Jeff, fucking video games. God damn it GOD FUCKIN' GOD DAMN IT. AWW FUCKIN' GAMES."

I've gotten the impression that Patrick is starting to become more outwardly cynical towards games these days. Not near Ryan and Jeff levels, but there have points in the past month of podcasts where I could have sworn Patrick was trying to do his best Jeff impression.

That said, Patrick n' the gang's random but great little appraisal of Vanquish last week was great to hear.

It looks generic sure and the character designs are laughable. That said, I liked the lightning and at least the mechanics seemed solid. Timeshift was a pretty fun experience. It's too bad Jeff didn't get to any of the crazy inversion stuff the trailers have showed.

I won't drop 60 bones on it (lollipop took my experiment funds for the month) but I'll put Inversion on the list for a rent or cheap buy. Mediocre games can still be pretty fun to me.

I was bored to tears watching that QL, and it had nothing to do with Ryan or Jeff.

Granted, I'm not the target audience for that game, but I didn't find myself finding reasons to ever want to look into it.

I clicked on the link but the preview picture alone gave me pause.

It looks so boring already, I don't know if I should even watch it.

I often get the impression that he likes stuff just because other people don’t like it. I’m not saying that is not a bad quality to have and he is not entitled to his opinion, but it becomes more obvious that he does it for that reason alone.

Nah, he's just more willing to try most anything even if it's bad. On the bombcast I think he sometimes tends to go along with Jeff and Ryan's cynical shtick though.
