The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

Neither Ryan or users could give this game a proper quicklook so soon after release.

Hell give it 2 weeks at least, or a month and than you'll know if you bought yourself the thunder cats portable game you hope it is.

I personally bought it myself and there's no way this is a 1 star game. The fact that he thinks there's a "proper" thundercats makes it inevitable that he is actually comparing the game to it's cartoon counterparts, and what it could've been, instead of commenting on the game for what it's.

I love listening to Ryan on the podcasts and quick looks and stuff. He's great. But I wouldn't even BEGIN to listen to his or Giantbomb's opinions on thundercats games. From the first time I saw Brad with it on that i love mondays video they did, everyone on Giantbomb seemed COMPLETELY disinterested in the property, and I haven't seen any actual interest from them since then. They didn't even know the price beforehand, totally unprofessional

Bravo.

The Oliver North stuff in BLOPS2 is weird, but I think that Jeff was right on the money when he said that the gruesome aspects of the game might be "about the human condition, man". The game is actually far more cynical and brutal than the Modern Warfare series, which I actually appreciate, even if it's hard to tell if it's trying to be stark and grim or just WOAH COOL DUDE SO TURBOVIOLENT. Hell, maybe it's trying to be both. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt, though, because I'd much rather have cynical shooters than hoo-rah errybody yippee kay yay.

It doesn't do in-your face commentary particularly well, but I think it's what the game is trying to do.

Wasn't Treyarch getting into minor controversy about the violence level in their COD games back in the World at War days, too?

F1 surprised me. No way on earth would I have guessed it was as nice little racer it was if I had just seen the screens of it.

Thundercats is GOTY. Juice me.
What a dreadful looking game.

Yeah, World at War had dismemberment, torture, immolation, and I believe disembowelment at one point. Plus the cutscene where your character hides in the pile of dead Soviet soldiers.

The imagery in Treyarch's games is super unflinching, which is something I can appreciate in this kind of game even if the actual commentary it's trying to serve falls flat a lot of the time.

If you put it together with the dumb video after the credits I think it falls on the THAT DUDE IS TOTALLY BURNED YO side.

See, I don't think Thundercats is a good game. But the way Ryan was downright personally insulting the developers was absolutely unnecessary and unprofessional, even for entertainment purposes. We forget that there were actual people working their asses off for crazy long hours for shitty payment, probably, for months to get this game done. Sure they know they're not making the best game in the world, but they were probably trying their best with what they had. And they do NOT deserve to be insulted no matter how bad the game end up being.

Thundercats deserved better. Is the new series at least good? I haven't watched it yet but I LOVED Thundercats as a kid and even read the comics
New series starts really good, i was impressed with the first episodes. After that it was hit or miss and when it started to be clearly made for kids I lost interest.
But i think i would love the shit out of it if i was a kid.

Eh, they even mention that during the quick look. And looking at the game it doesn't look like they were trying to do the best they could at all, it looks like the worst kind of cynical cashgrab, where they intentionally make a shit game they know will sell anyway because it's based on a lincense.

I may be misremembering exactly what Ryan said, but I recall him actually being very careful in making it clearly that he was insulting the product and not the people who made it, clearly appreciating that there's a higher corporate agenda at play.

"You made a shitty game" is really not a personal insult to the developers in a circumstance like this, as I don't think anyone would reasonably expect that this game was made under conditions in which anything other than a shitty game was possible.

Drew. <3

I'm loving these quick looks they've been putting out lately. I still don't understand the Patrick hate also.
I used to not be so keen on Patrick in his 1up days.

For some reason I've about-faced and enjoy him much more. Whether that's a testament to either me or him becoming more mature, I don't know.

Either way, I'm glad I like him now.

Karateka looks like it was made to be a phone game. tap to attack on your turn, tap to block on the enemy turn.

I had problems when they switched, but they're fixed now.

Except streaming being in terrible quality compared to the Youtube encoding, but yeah.

Kareteka looks more like a "game" thatd be in the background of a movie scene that looked gamey enough instead of something you actually play.

Yeah, I thought it looked alright, though. I wonder if it's coming to iOS/android, the limited input options would make me forgiving of the lack of interactivity. I do like the way they tie lives to story though.

I would definitely pick it up to give it a whirl if it came out on iOS at a reduced price
