The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

Yeah ZombiU looks pretty cool. Need more video of the multiplayer. I thought it was only ever 1 vs 1 but they seem to say its more vs gamepad guy.

ZombiU looks surprisingly good, I don't see the point of the corpse run as enemies don't respawn, but it looks pretty tense. The inventory management looks good, although the other uses of the uPad look moronic. I hate that Patrick defended the clunky controls as a positive in the context of the players are meant to be incompetent.

Coolest thing in there though, King of Zombies. Someone needs to make a zombie RTS, right now.

ZombiU is not for me, I don't find Dead Island or Demon's Souls appealing at all really, but I'm glad there is a good looking, legitimate game at launch for the system.

Next up, NintendoLand...

Mario Chase and Luigi's ghost mansion look like more legitimate ideas on their own. Both remind me of good Mario Party minigames.

This Luigi's Mansion explanation is amazing. I can't believe they fucked this up in the stage demo - in less than two minutes I got all the basic concepts of it after the GB explanation.

So wen does the live stream stuff start exactly? Did anyone catch game trailers live thing? What happened there?

Just go to the page and look at the time it displays for you at "Coming up on Giant Bomb". If you are too lazy then in about 7 hours and 41 minutes.

Does the "Coming up on Giant Bomb" field show my local time? Because it said 9 AM for the QLs but it is only 3 AM in PST.
If you're logged in, it shows your local time.

Shows the live stream going live at 8 PM for me (7 hours 40 minutes from this post).

NintendoLand looks pretty fun. It's nothing I'd ever buy, because it seems like the kind of thing you and three friends would mess around with for an hour or so, but it all seems very accessible and family friendly, it's impressive.

And it is hella pretty. I don't care about this game, but any doubt that Super Mario Universe isn't going to put a rise in even the most cynical of Levi's is dead, Nintendo are amazing.

Im all kinds of sad that i wont be able to take advantage of the vs games, that mario chase looks alot of fun.

The music in the Yoshi minigame in Nintendoland makes me nostalgic.

Yes it is. Yes it is...

The one thing I do love about Nintendo Land is how artistically experimental it is. Nintendo does seem to have a genuine idea of how to utilise their technology and retain their experimental enthusiasm which, at least, suggests that Nintendo's transition to HD isn't plagued with the issues that were endemic with so many other Japanese companies.

... except NSBU's foreground I guess...

Overall, YOSHI'S ISLAND PLEASE. I beg of you.

Why would you post that?

On topic, I agree that the artstyle of Nintendoland really makes it pop, and just further proves how integral a creative and strong-visioned artstyle beats technical power any day (though ideally you want both). Really anticipating what Nintendo can do now that they are finally in the HD era.

You just don't get it, man. They're intentionally playing like shit. Isn't it funny how they just hold right and die over and over?

Check the website. The times on the schedule will be for your time zone.

wow 6 more hours damn. I thought they were doing it early.

Le sigh. Watching the Mario U quicklook and these guys cant co-op very well.

You really expected organised co-op with 4 players? That's ridiculous. But more importantly...did you just use le unironically?

That's not an excuse though. They just.. Run. I guess :

A: That's the "fun of it", to just mindlessly run.
B: They suck at playing as a team
C: They suck at the game

I come to Giant Bomb for pro Mario strats.

If that's their intent, sure. I'm okay with that. Me on the other hand would just put the controller down, get a beer and look at my twitter feed on my phone. It's just stressfull and not fun.

They're talking about the game and whatever else comes to mind while playing. Quicklooks have never been about playing great or showing off their skills. The name of the feature does not even imply that.

.

Worst argument for most horror games ever. "Resi and Silent Hill control like shit to up the tension, mannn"

No, they control like shit because they were incapable of making a good control scheme and it's just frustrating for the player.

It doesn't look as bad as the GS review suggests, at least. Keeping my pre-order, I think.

For the first silent hill I agree the controls were shit because of incompetence. But Silent hill 2-4 still had tank controls but were vastly improved and people kept on complaining, the heavy controls weren't unresponsive they were just clearly not meant to be super quick. I would take that kind of controls over anything horror games has done since.

To be fair, those games had the controls they did because of the fixed perspective of the camera. Perhaps a poor solution, but after a little time with RE's tank controls they felt just fine to me.

I think Zombi U will be pretty divisive when it comes to the tablet stuff. Some people might find it exciting and immersive and others might just immediately think they wouldn't have any problems if the same actions were just mapped to buttons.

I think there's usually a compromise with horror games where you have to put up with bad controls because they don't want the player to have too much freedom and as a result they just have a crap control system that feels bad.

You should be able to restrict the player's movements but still make it feel satisfying - SH 2/3/4 failed to do that, for me.

DayZ is a pretty good example of a game where the controls are great and you're still limited in what you can do.

In a first person game there's no excuse for bad controls to me. Condemned did it perfectly.

ZombiU looks completely mediocre, but NSMBU and Nintendoland both look rad.

Am surprised how good Nintendo Land looks.
I understand why Mario can't have online but wish some of Nintendo Land had some, should be 100% possible with most of those online modes. Feels like the producers were stubborn about any sort of lag effect in their game.

Oh well. Still to decide. ZombiU reviews should be a good read at least.

There are some interesting ideas in ZombiU. There's some ambition there. It's hard to tell how well it was all implemented based on the quick look but Patrick seemed to be enjoying it.
