How the fuck could anyone recent beat out Washington or Lincoln? WTF?

Americans officially suck.

Because people remember Reagan. Nobody remembers Washington or Lincoln, they only have fuzzy memories of their old history classes and that they're on money.

I expected to see more fictional characters, where's Captain America?

I was half expecting him to enter this thread and say something like:

I agree with the people.
Reagan was a prince.
He did a lot of good and inspired people.

A spoiled brat who couldn't graduate high school. Frightening that there are many clones of Olimario living in this country :p

Who voted for Reagan?

Grover Norquist and all his clones? Oliver "TRUE AMERICAN" North and all his fellow patriots?

Ridonkulous.

I agree that Billy Graham should just edge out Thomas Jefferson because those crackers are amazing! Just the right hint of sweetness and that mysterious brown color.

That is so much more important than "We Built This City" even though it is an awesome rock classic that I frequently jam to.

What exactly did Jordan do that made him a great american? He has no compassion (ask Bill Cartwright if you need any convincing) and he never gave anything back to America while he made money off of poor Asian kids who slaved away to make Air Jordans.

If you want to see a athlete that was also a great American, the first guy that comes to my mind is Arther Ashe. Maybe Mohammad Ali, but that involves Vietnam and thus you could never get a consensus.

One final person to consider is none other than Black Jesus himself. Helping the poor, fighting off a Celtics dynasty, and creating endless entertainment at his own expense. A real American hero.

And this my friend is why we have electorial colleges and a representative democracy instead of a direct one. This beyond all things prooves that we need to be protected from ourselves.

I get the feeling this survey was the part of a larger plan to piss off intelligent people inciting an eventual revolution. Like Fox News.

Why is Einstein on the list of top 100 Americans?

I was wondering that too, considering he was born in...Germany? But the stupidity of having OPRAH WINFREY in a list like this dwarfed this other stupidity.

Without Lincoln or Washington there probably wouldn't be an America so that alone makes them automatic top 3 on any list of greatest Americans imho.

Yeah, I probably put Washington too low.

My American History is getting fuzzy, but I don't remember Washington doing anything incredible. He was good, but he wasn't an awesome president. He was just the first, so he gets a lot of rep for that. He was also a general too...I just don't remember anymore.

Oprah does some humanitarian work. Yeah, she probably shouldn't be on the list. But she deserves it much more than GWB.

Meh, if a survey about "the greatest rap artists of all time" was conducted shortly after either the death of BIG or 2Pac, I'm sure one or both of them would quickly find their way into the top 3. Same with a survey shortly conducted after Kurt Cobain's death asking about "the greatest rock stars of all time". People have a short memory...and don't read history books.

Almost as bad as having Don Cherry in the greatest canadian survey

Oh and the all-mighty google informs me that Einstein became an american citizen in 1940

Anyways, this list won't mean shit in a week, or in a day. Heck, I'm forgetting it right now like so much internet garbage that gets filtered through my brain every day.

This has got to be the worst Top 100 list I've ever seen in my life.

See, if this was just an internet poll it wouldn't be so bad. But it had a big special on the Discovery channel with an audience rooting for their favorite Americans. It just seems much more disturbing than a common internet poll revealing people's stupidity. :(

George Washington set the standard for the presidency by accepting only two terms. He very well could have set himself as president for life, but chose not to do so.

The orderly and peaceful transfer of power was something the world had not ever seen. To this day, it's a rare occurrence.

Countdown had The Top Ten American Monkeys, and Donkey Kong was number two. The game did take place in America, so Donkey Kong probably was American. But Japanese people made him. I don't know, Keith.

Jesus shit. This thread needs to be "TWO MORE MINUTES OF HATE".

Great side-by-side pairings. Oprah, FDR. My brother about collapsed when he asked "Where's W?" to which I replied "6. Right in front of Clinton and Elvis."

Thomas Jefferson is 12, behind

1 Ronald Reagan
6 George W Bush
7 Bill Clinton
8 Elvis Presley
9 Oprah Winfrey
11 Billy Graham

On my list, Jefferson or Lincoln is number 1.
