Seriously, I hope Batman Begins can turn that all around. I have high hopes!

Amen. The script is good, the director is solid and the cast is hawt. Keep the faith.

already commented but seriously. what is up with the unbreakable love. Its up there in terms of cruddy/rubbishy films

Welcome to the minority! Enjoy your stay. The rest of us are going to party over in the cool corner.

Actualy... Wilco, you should scratch this thread because you forgot THE INCREDIBLES.

Imo Incredibles > *

That very well may be true, but no movie merits attenion in The Greatest Movie Debate® series until it is on DVD/VHS. The best way to have a wide discussion is after the majority of the forum has had the ability to see the movie.

YOU SUCK

All I see is the ramblings of a poster with bad taste!

You're not qualified to make any more movie related topics!

Someone disagrees with you. See below:

Go fuck yourself, buddy!

... OH P'ZOWNED!

Batman isn't a superhero in my mind, even if by using secondary dictionary definitions he can technically be classified as such.

So while I think Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is the best movie of those 6, I'd go with Unbreakable as the best superhero film. X2 is a close second. Spider-Man 2 is cinematic tripe. God, how I wish James Cameron got to make his version instead of Raimi's trash.

Unbreakable +1

Blasphemy!

If I wasn't such an upstanding cinematic judge, I'd discount your vote!

Unbreakable! Such great execution, especially with the end in my opinion. Plus it has a kid with a gun, which strongly abides by my rule that all children should be given guns. If everyone has a gun, what's so special about it? Nothing! It takes away its power!

Burton's Batman is so overrated by comic fanboys it's not even funny. Most Burton flicks feel like props shows anyway. Hey lookie here, we've got a weird hair-do and weird accessories! Hahaha how clever! His mannerisms are gettin' old, fast. He gotta find a good story, and a better one than that ok "storytelling homage or stupid story filled with lies" Big Fish.

Where's The Incredibles? Where's the first Batman movie with Michael Keaton? Hell, even the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles should be listed!

Put Incredibles down, and this thread is OVER. :D

The Incredibles was great, but it's rather overrated right now. Too recent for weak-minded fanboys who always regard the latest movie to be the best one. You want proof? IMDB's top 250 list is about 50% movies from 1980 and up.

I already told you... IT. IS. NOT. ON. DVD. OR. VHS.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a fun flick, but I picked the six most widely accepted great superhero flicks, and TMNT is not quite there in general concensus. If it makes you feel better, I own it!

Batman can't win because he" isn't a superhero"? =\
Is that to me? If so...
su·per·he·ro
n. pl. su·per·he·roes

A figure, especially in a comic strip or cartoon, endowed with superhuman powers and usually portrayed as fighting evil or crime.
---
su·per·hu·man
adj.

1. Above or beyond the human; preternatural or supernatural.
2. Beyond ordinary or normal human ability, power, or experience: “soldiers driven mad by superhuman misery” (John Reed).
I see putting Batman in there as a stretch, and even then, all the other characters here fall into the first definition of "superhuman" while Batman can at best be arguably part of the second definition. There's an important difference there either way.

As I said, I think Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is the best of the listed films, but I really don't think it fits with the others listed.

*I haven't seen Darkman, so I'm not sure if he has powers or not.

For some reason, i haven't seen Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, but out of the other 5 movies, X2 is the best and Spiderman 2 is the worst.

Well, I'd say The Crow. Since that's been omitted I'll say Spiderman 2.

Unbreakable is lame. All of that build up just to watch him put a guy in a headlock. And Phantasm isn't even feature length.

THE SCORE - Updated!

Spider-Man 2 = 8
X2: X-Men United = 4
Unbreakable = 13
Superman = 2
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm = 8
Darkman = 1

I don't consider The Crow much of a superhero. I think if I did a best comic book list, I'd put it up with the likes of stuff such as Ghost World.

*smacks forehead* Stop voting for Unbreakable guys. My vote's to Phantasm, the series being the best representation of superheroes. All the Burton Batman flicks are horribly overrated, the series is insanely good. Spider-man 2 is fun but eh... There's a lot to be turned off to with the films. X2 was great action wise, making the first viewing a pleasure, but I notice without the names I feel nothing for the characters. Rewatching it made that very visible to me. I think the TMNT movie should be listed. That was just one amazing movie to see brought to screen and there's so much to like about it. Oh, and The Incredibles is neck and neck with Phantasm if listed. They completely explored the superhero life in a humorous way, but a very gripping way also at moments. This just hit every mark a superhero flick should, and then added the best action sequences and use of power for superhero movies.

Spider-Man 2 is the most Spider-Man-esque movie ever. Therefore, it is also the greatest superhero movie of all time.

Though I really, really, really like X2 as well. Its practically tied with Spider-Man 2.

Bad taste, eh?

DID I NOT VOTE FOR SPIDER-MAN 2?!

Oh snap. Besides, Bruce would agree with me. He likes Batman. And Spider-Man. As do I.

I always felt Singer was just trying too hard with the 'X' movies, to make something 'worthy'.

I vote Superman. Although I'd prefer Superman 2 - if only for ZOD. When the f**k are we going to get a Donner Director cut with his footage returned?

Plus, Hellboy rocked. Curse you Wilco.

I love Hellboy. Moreso than probably a couple of the films listed in the debate. Unfortunately, like Hulk, general concensus doesn't quite favor Ron Perlman & Co.

THE SCORE - Updated!

Spider-Man 2 = 11
X2: X-Men United = 5
Unbreakable = 15
Superman = 5
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm = 10
Darkman = 2

Oh you diabolical evil genius Willco...on any given day 4 of these movies could be my number one. I want to say Unbreakable, but is that because I haven't seen it recently and my nostalgia is making it better than it is?

Spiderman 2, excellent, excellent movie...but if I wanted to watch a movie today, I'd rather watch Unbreakable over Superman, Superman II, MOTP, and Spiderman 2 even though I think Spidey is one of the greatest superheros on the list.

X2 was great, but meh, it doesn't make me want to watch it many times over.

MOTP...sooooo awesome. I can't believe you're making me choose.

Darkman - yeah I liked this movie, but I have to say this movie shouldn't even be on the same list as these other movies.

So, today - my vote goes to Unbreakable. In fact I'm going to watch it tonight.

Tomorrow it could be a different movie....but I doubt it, unless Superman 2 was on the list. Zod>Jor'el

Ding ding! We have a winnah!

Although I may be biased against it, since my first day of work at a movie theater was during the opening fucking weekend of Batman. You've never seen such a collection of greasy, overweight, black t-shirt wearing, large bucket of popcorn and giant diet-coke swilling scum and villainy in once place before. Not only was the stench bad, I had to clean up after them.

Ah well, I kinda liked listening to Prince's Arms of Orion over and over again. Movie still sucked though.

1 - Spiderman 2
2 - Unbreakable
3 - Superman
4 - X2
5 - Darkman

Never saw Phantasm. I really should.

Yeh, I'd have to say Unbreakable. Before I was a big M. Night Shyamalan skeptic, I wasn't really that impressed with the Sixth Sense, or Signs. But yeh... this movie changed my stance on him completely, absolutely loved this flick.

(haven't seen the Village, yet)
