Welcome back. The designated times are tricky, like last night where we started playing around 11:30 PM EDT.
I'm usually on around those times, yet I never seem to get an invite. /shrug
Take me out of the league.

>_> I guess its too late to show up now?

I kind of left off gaming for a while. I'm going to go ahead and pin this on the Steam Sale. Anyways I'm ready to play.

So captains, you still have your slots to fill, please pm me with player requests. I'm going to assign players to teams based on your requests to balance the teams the best I can.

My merry band of tryhards got so blinded by that DOTA2 hype that they forgot to post our games!? For shame!

I'm planning on playing all three games to some extent, as long as they manage to stay alive, online and playable without insane queue times!

DOTA with an updated engine, consistent, customizable bindings and Valve's attention to detail sounds so damn good though. And that prize pool... I'd guess the intention is to catch the attention of competitive teams, I kind of hope not all players will be going where the money is and we can still have a competitive scene in HoN and LoL. Guess time will tell.

(a personal gripe of mine that I'm happy to somewhat get rid of with dota 2: people claiming "hey that's pudge from dota!" when they see a wc3 abomination model and so on. ALMOST ALL the graphics in the map were taken from elsewhere, and it always irritated me how people don't see it.)

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
What are you talking about?

WC3 was a mod Blizzard made for Icefrog's DOTA game. This is old news.

Someone needs to dig up the two Oceanic v Kag games that I wasn't a part of. I believe kag won one and oceanic won one.

Woah this thread is alive!?

tryhards

Can we end the IHL sooner rather than later? I think a reboot will do us good since the active roster of gaffers have changed a lot since this started.

Sneaky sneaky kag, wanting to end the IHL soon while his team is in first. I see through your tricks! You want those gold coins in time for the sale, don't you?

Nah, my merry band of tryhards can have my share of any pot we win. I just don't feel like having to say no to other people that want to play in IHs when we're trying to IHL. A lot of the newer hongaffers are unfamiliar with what we're trying to organize in an IH/L sometimes and get the wrong impression that they're unwanted or not picked because they're not good enough. Plus the long waits that they don't have any visibility into because they're not on mumble listening to us hem and haw about who gets to ring for which team.

It was fun while it lasted. Hopefully we can use what we learned from this IHL and not do teams.

My suggestion:
I say take out the captains and replace with "hosts" (players who are given privilege to start a match), once a host says they wish to start one ("!start -sd" for example), other gaffers will say in chat if they are willing to play, usually with a "!in" or something. The two with the highest ratings will be the two captains.

Of course, this means that there will be no teams, but with teams it really causes a lot of issues. (waiting for teammates to come on, being forced to play when you don't really want to, etc).

Dump the point system, because unless theres someone who will commit to it, its a hassle. Make this IHL just a fun thing to enjoy, not to compete.

I 75% agree with you Meeru. We still need some sort of point system and incentive because the games will still be competitive. Ideally we'd have our own Honstats-type app or website for tracking GAF-tagged pub games for automatic tracking. I'm not savvy enough to create that, so hopefully HON or DOTA 2 will have it publicly available (even for a fee, which I'd reckon GAF can easily pay for) in the future. Honwars and the beyondgaming sites already do it for their own unique tourney formats but I wish there was something out there we could use for tracking our pick-up group style inhouses.

Same here. I would love a point stat tracking system for our own IHL. If someone can create an algorithm to handle it, that'll be great. But I also feel like Dota 2's own matchmaking stats will suffice if we can't do what you suggested.

You're right on the competitive part, which makes me wonder if we should just do what other league sites do, a vouch league. I'm all for mixing veterans with new players though.

Hmm i haven't really seen what Dota2 will offer for specifically filtered IH stat tracking. Hon looks like it has a mirrored mysql database that app and website creators can query for advanced stats, we just lack the acumen to harness it. We'll have to wait and see if Valve will be as open as s2 in that regard.

Right now, I think the IHL did its job perfectly and was quite a success. We really drummed up interest early on and got a lot of GAF players to start playing with each other more often. Nowadays we typically have 5 or more casual IH games nightly, and people are having fun for the most part. There's still some saltiness every now and then, but that's really only when a few players' expectations don't match the rest for how seriously to take each game.

We could just track win/loss to make it easier, instead of everyone's individual stats, and throw in all the individual "awards" to make it fun.

Oh, and...
