Its not an endless runner... its level based where you need to collect stuff to get a perfect score. It just runs automatically so its all about getting the jumping and hovering etc right. Its more like a forced speed runner and it works really well.

I wonder what the hell is a Runner for you people lol.
To me it's when the character runs for you, always go forward (Canabalt, etc). Who the fuck cares if there's levels, spagetti or a spaceship --- if the game runs forward for you it's a Runner....

You're half right. Rayman is a runner, or more specifically an auto-runner. But it is not an endless runner. There in lies the difference.

Went to purchase The Room and it's iPad only. :(

Gotta get one of those.
Just ordered one mainly for videos, books and comics consumption, but having access to some of the iPad-only games/apps won't hurt at all. Tried to hold off as long as I could. :(

Yep, not an endless runner, and there is a lot of control in the hovering that you don't normally get in these types of games.

Loving Rayman so far

So I downloaded Roo Roo Run because it is free and it is...ok. I've gotten gold on the first 9 chapters and the game is almost a bit too simple for my taste.

Also, slightly annoying aspect is no Gamecenter cheevos are showing up. Is this a problem for me is bugged for everyone?

Expert is the meat of the game. The first 15 levels of each world are just the entrée.

What is The Room actually? What kind of puzzle game is it?

Think Myst or Riven without the walking.

You are invited in a 'room' facing a box...you uncover a background story while trying to solve the various puzzles that let you open this box (with a box within...).
I find the atmosphere fantastic...a bit 1800 Lovecraft in Boston or London.

I don't know how long it is or what else, but my first impression (an hour or so) was awesome.
Controls are super slick and natural, perfectly shaped around the touch device.

again-Expert is the real "meat" of the game. Try those out and you'll be amazed at the challenge. I didn't have an issue with achievements in that one, however-suprisingly, considering my luck..

Also there was an IB2 update yesterday that fixed the bug that prevented game progression-I'm moving right along again!

This will be the first game I play through in my iPhone 5. What type of game is it, though?

LILI is similar to an adventure game, I sometimes get a Monkey Island/Zelda-like feeling while playing it (without heavy action oriented combat). You can explore the island, talking to quirky characters, solving puzzles and completing quests to unlock more places to travel in the game.

The main character has her own reasons for being on the island without spoiling too much.

Similar to a classic 2D point and click adventure game just presented in 3D (and beautiful artwork).
I think LILI is worth trying out~

While I am enjoying this game, in almost no way is this comparison accurate.
Edit: I am in the first area, though. I could be wrong. But it is more beyond good and evil (Third person 3d actioner/collectathon) than a point and click adventure game.

I know this isn't gaming related, but maybe someone can help me out why the hell this is happening with my new iphone. It won't stay connected to my wifi network. I'll be staying in my same room, and it will always just go away and say "not connected" to any wifi network, when I constantly keep entering my security code. It'll connect for a few minutes, but then just go away.

I have the option for "ask to join networks" set to OFF.

Before I started typing this, I entered my information again on the wifi network...while typing this, I look at it again, and it says "not connected" -_- wtf.

I read online last night that doing a reset of network settings might help, but it has not.

I do not regret my iPad purchase for a second. One of my favorite devices and completely replaced any need for me to use a laptop. It is amazing for reading comics and books. Love using it winding down before bed. My 2 year old knows how to work it better than my wife and is a great learning utility for her. Very worth the purchase.

Yeah the challenge missions are better in Roo Roo Run, but even those aren't too hard. Plus there are only 6 per chapter versus 15 baby mode stages.

It's free? Where?

It was the free app of the week. At least on Ipad. Don't know if it is anymore.

It's been free for a week or so. You better grab it fast, it might go out of free soon since I think it was the weekly free app

Run Roo Run is no longer free
Thanks guys, weird that I missed the free window as I had it appshopped and I usually pay attention to the deals (granted, I've been dozing off on that front lately). No prob ($0.99 lol), I may just buy it later when I'm done with some of my current backlog.

One of my intentions is making it my main media consumption device so I can sort of "free" my notebook from so many distractions and make it more work-focused when I use it for writing. Also looking forward to everything else I didn't even know I'd use it for, haha.

Lili is gorgeous, technically impressive and artistically truly unique. Rayman: Jungle Run is fantastic and feels like a solid extension of Rayman Origins.

But these are not the games I am currently playing because OMFG SUPER HEXAGON IS THE SHIT.

I found the main game too easy and the expert levels more annoying than fun.

Not a fan of the game myself, but my kids loved it.

I see what you mean. Its just that I didn't consider that sub-genre of a sub-genre. At some point I dress a line and that's it. Every game could be a sub-genre of something (almost). Maybe it should be called "auto-scrollers" or something lol

Yeah, I'm with you in the sense that I saw the game merely as a runner, whatever breed you wanna call it. But this definitely looks like a very different game from what we normally consider endless runners, as the levels aren't random, and the mechanics seem geared heavily toward platforming fans, as opposed to high-score sort of stuff. I'm glad Ubi took a chance and did this with Rayman, rather than slap on some virtual controls. Don't get me wrong, I've adjusted to virtual sticks and all that, but they'll never be ideal. And with a platformer like Rayman, I think I would just never feel completely satisfied. With this approach, you seem to get all the dynamics of a Rayman platformer without the limitations of virtual controls. Hope it sets a new standard for these types of games on iOS. That 81135 (or whatever it was called) was also a decent start to that sort of approach.

They feel totally different to me. Endless runners are about surviving the random encounters as long as possible. Auto runners are lvl based and can have specific goals, collectables and even a story. They are much closer to a traditional platformer.

Anyone playing the new square game Guardian Cross? Its kind of like Rage of Bahumut card game.
Pretty fun and thankfully free and there is not really been a good reason to use in ap money so far either.
If you feel like joining use this code QB69166to get some final fantasy related cards!

Quoting again to see if I can get a few more interested!

Impressions of Lunar:

This is my first time with this game -- coming in fresh. It's beautiful, even today, the presentation is mammoth, and in many ways the gameplay reminds me of Chrono Trigger. Absolutely adore it already as an RPG.

But...

These controls. Argh... Lots of issues with the touch controls and collision, and if you turn the game portrait to utilize the virtual GBA-esque pad, everything is teeny tiny. It also lags really bad if you put your device into sleep mode and then come back to the game. If they can polish up some of these issues, this could easily be one of, if not the, best JRPGs on iOS.
