Dream League Soccer is fantastic, just discovered it yesterday. Probably the best football/soccer game on iOS, and it's 'free' as well.

'Free' as in you can play the single player mode for free, but to unlock multiplayer and remove ads you have to buy some in-game coins (£1.49 minimum price).

Totally agree. Can't wait for First Touch Soccer 2012. Their soccer engine is wonderful.

Any impressions on Aquaria?

Trailer looks great too. Metroidvania ?

Ads everywhere ftl. And how come you can't have full 90 minute games with these games.

Pay $0.99 to remove ads.

You would seriously play a portable soccer game for an hour and a half? Because you can play a 90 minute game in 5 minutes real time. Not sure what you mean.

hu? You totally can, singleplayer games work perfectly fine for 90minutes? And yeah, ads everywhere, but it's 2 dollars for the "full" version with no ads and multiplayer, so there's that.

EDIT: Oh, you meant real-life 90 minutes. OH. nvm. What gamecocks said.

THAT is what I was waiting for. So wait, this is NOT just a re-named next version of First Touch Soccer, but just a different game? Can't really imagine? I was waiting for the next X2 game for so long but it never showed up, so I'm thinking I might've just overlooked re-named versions...

Time to start making friends :P

Anyways, how often do they refresh offers?

they usually add sponsor apps every Friday or so, maybe 1 or 2, new gift apps show up whenever they feel like it. :P (e.g. Angry Birds Space &HD were there day1, other games may come later)

No, Dream League Soccer is sort of a experiment type game using their in-progress First Touch Soccer 2012 engine. FTS 2012 is in development according to their blog/twitter.

Not sure about the second one, but the first one, there's no ads in the actual matches, and you can remove them altogether by buying some coins (cheapest pack is £1.49 or I assume $2. That's not bad at all considering how good the game is, and it also lets you unlock online multiplayer.

Ooooh alright then! Thanks, I'm looking forward to FTS2012 then :) Dream League Soccer is pretty good by itself, it's just the dream team mode taken out of the FTS games I guess :P

Tried out a few games since I got me the new iPad friday and I've been having the most fun with Jetpack Joyride. That game is addictive as hell, and I'm not even going for distance. The missions are enough to keep me playing.

Also bought Fruit Ninja HD, Cut the Rope and Sworcery (have yet to check this one out). Most of my time is spent gaming on this thing, didn't expect that.

My time played on Jetpack Joyride rivals some of the big console games.

I lost my progress after around 13 hours but I think I have around just under 20 hours now.

Yeah I suppose if I was into it more I'd get the paid app.

And it would just be NICE to have the option to play a full 90 minute game in real time. Don't see why they don't have that in there, just feels like you are playing a demo of a console version with how short they are.

To be honest, I can't remember a football game that let you play full 45 minute halves since UEFA Striker on the PS1. Even console versions of FIFA and Pro Evo these days only let you play 20 and 30 minute halves respectively.

Swordigo is awful. Horrible art style, graphics, writing, and gameplay...the parallels to Zelda II are bordering on blatant copyright infringement and don't help it from sucking one bit. Not my cup of tea.

Great, beautiful game on PC, shitty but still beautiful on iOS, since you move Naija with your finger all over the screen, constantly, not just tapping here and there like in point & click games where such a method would be fine, it's just not for this type of game. It's even worse than usual in this game since you can and have to move in every direction, not just left to right and vice versa which would mean you can tap with a different hand on the left and right sides of the screen with less view issues.

It'd actually be better with a virtual stick, even though I tend to hate those. I dunno if they've implemented that by now.

I'd say it's worth the extra price on PC if you don't wanna wait for some Steam deal or bundle.

Can someone that's played Dragon's Lair 2 help me out?

I've finally figured out the whole treasure grabbing thing and I've managed to get them all except the damn hammer in the creative gust sequence. Sword obviously plays through without grabbing the hammer, and pressing any of the directions just results in Dirk falling to his death.

Any tips? Is my timing off, is there an exact right button to be pressing? I'm so close to the end but it's frustrating how many times I've missed that hammer.

Just finished Machinarium, fuck thats an awesome game. I wish it was longer though, just so I could enjoy more of its awesomeness.

I shoulda started with worse adventure games on my iPad, now everything else wont be as good.

What else should I play beside Broken Sword, Sword and Sworcery? I watched a buddy play some of Drawn: The painted Tower and that seemed pretty good too. Ive tried the Back to the Future stuff, and didnt like it much, not a huge fan of BttF I guess. I also played the newish 3D monkey Island game on PC, and liked that a lot, so I should grab the first 2 I guess.

Suggestions?

Monkey Island, all..... 7 games. (Well there's Monkey Island 1&2, ports of the old versions, and then the "new" Monkey Island tales that is split into 5 episodes)

I "splurged" and bought Caylus. On the surface Caylus looks good, but that's just because they copied the Carcassonne look. The UI itself is full of terrible design decisions. The tutorial is useless (I instead looked up a podcast that did a great job explaining the game). The game just generally feels sluggish and buggy.

The weird part is despite all that, I do enjoy the game. The game it emulates is good enough to overcome the half assed implementation. Caylus is a deep euro game without being overly convoluted. I recommend it for anyone looking to try out a new board game they probably wouldn't otherwise.

Do the ports of 1&2 can be played with the old graphics? I don't like how the new graphics look.

the ports of 1&2 look completely different than the newer Tales game (whose graphics I also don't like that much). They are rehauls of the original PC games and look AWESOME. Tales was made from a new engine, the 1&2 ports were simply digitally re-mastered and look great. If you want, you can also switch them into the original PC-graphics, but I'd recommend just sticking with the re-mastered version, it's pretty great and a I like the style lot better than the Tales graphics.

Been a while, but I belatedly picked up Cave's Bug Princess...and it may now be my favorite of the Cave verts on ios.

It doesnt beat Dodonpachi Res for me, but I do like it. Deathsmiles is the only one I dont really like though, and that is mostly because I dont think the controls do well with the left to right to left shooting mechanics.

I much prefer First Touch Soccer to Dream League Soccer, but that's probably because I've gotten so used to the controls in First Touch.

I just wish I could play as a team other than England, because I friggin love scoring with Rooney's special flip-up skill.

edit: If any devs of First Touch Soccer are reading this, PLEASE ALLOW FOR THE OPTION TO SHRINK THE SIZE OF THE CONTROLS/BUTTONS ON THE IPAD VERSION. I only have a 3GS, so I love the way FTS looks on the iPad, but the analog stick is too far away from the corner of the screen to play comfortably.

Fuck it, I splashed and bought Carcassonne. This will now instantly be played until I can't see it anymore. Add me if you want, Smiley1790 on GC.

You can get some good enjoyment out of it. It's annoying but not the end of the world. Being a roguelike it takes a while to hit the wall anyway. You get two base classes and i think 15 levels

Why aren't there any good Mario or Zelda clones for ios? There are a lot of 2D action RPGs, but none of them seem to have the puzzles/dungeons you would find in a Zelda game. There are platformers but only a few that even try to come close to Mario. Someone could make a killing with one of these.

Lol, I know it by memory.
The hammer is on Beethowen's level, when you become tiny it's SWORD, then Down and then the piano'll start to fly. Then LEFT (not down!), sequence: sword, down, sword, right and finally DOWN to grab the hammer. :)
Only *AFTER* that you push Sword. And uuuuuuuuup to the roof!! Be fast now :P

PHANTASY STAR ONLINE 2 coming to iOS (and Android) this Winter 2012 :O
It'll be specifically tailored for touch screens and a bit simpler in controls and character creation, plus "social elements" (ugh, FB?), and with some sort of optional connectivity to the PC (F2P) version coming this summer.
