The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |Thread4| NOT Doomed

So does anyone remember the game Xenome: Episode 1? I was syncing my [new] iPhone and ran across it again in my history. By today's standards, it doesn't look or play too great, but I REALLY loved the game (and actually reinstalled it to play on the go). Outside of Aralon, is there anything else like that available?

Also, I'm STILL on the hunt for a good Harvest Moon clone...Does it exist? Not a shitty micro-transaction ridden piece of shit. A good ol' farming sim.

New Star Soccer career mode is freezing on me. :(

Just freezes there, I reload app and it crashes back to home.

I never realised you could update the OS remotely. Charged up my iPod touch for the first time in ages and it downloaded the 5.1 update in the background and prompted me to install it. Nice

Anyone else getting really bad battery life from their iPod? Just sitting in standby it'll be flat in less than a week. Any apps or settings that will drain it heavily?

Not on my iPod but Safari on my iPhone is probably the biggest battery drain...

The first I saw this post, I read it as Xenosaga: Episode 1...

Way back when one of the iOS updates really killed the battery of my 2nd gen iPod Touch. Thereafter I just kept it in 'airplane mode' when I wasn't doing anything online and it returned the battery to its proper, long lasting, place. Give it a shot!

notifications is probably doing that, check settings

Anyone try Paper Monsters?
Looks lovely and it's cheap. Definitely curious.

I like it. It's very easy but it's one of those games that's just fun and easy to play, I found it quite relaxing compared to the masocore platformers I usually play. Kick back on the sofa, take it easy, enjoy some floaty flatforming. Lovely.

What's the best Llamasoft game?

T-T-T-Triple post!

This is a very hard question... I will have to go with Gridrunner or Caverns of Minos. Gridrunner is simply one of my favourite SHMUPs ever now, it's intense and manic and fun as all hell. Works even better on iCade too. Caverns of Minos on the other hand is a fantastic level-based shooter platformer thing with a ton of hidden depth to it. The two games are very different from each other but are both wonderful.

But then again there's the original Minotaur rescue which is a pitch perfect asteroids iteration and has given me hours and hours of play...

Argh, so hard. Buy them all, Jeff needs your money :P

Donut Games are one of the most consistent developers around. "Action Driver" is another quality little game from them, and has that "one more go" appeal that so many of their other games have.

little bit harsh? I blind buy 99c stuff without batting an eyelid. Yes, £2.50 is a pocket money price for a game I'll like, but not for a throw of the dice - they add up.

Not really harsh at all. If I was being properly harsh I would be banned quicksharp.

But think about it. £2.50 is less than a pint of beer. When you're in a pub, do you umm and ahh as to whether you buy that next pint? No, you go up and pay your money and think nothing of it, and in half an hour you've finished and you're on to the next one. You're not savouring that individual drink, you're not weighing up its individual merits as you're drinking it, or asking around the pub for impressions. So £2.50 for a game that you might spend hours and hours on is next to nothing.

But obviously, just buy what you think you would like to play. Blind buying every cheap game you see if probably silly only in the fact that there is simply not enough time in the day to play all these games. I think that on iOS, the most important factor is hours in the day rather than pennies in the pocket.

And as for the game, I hear it's some TD/RTS type shenanigans, so if that's the kind of thing that interests you it might be worth it. But who knows? Do you even have the time to invest in playing a game like that? I know I don't, which is why I wouldn't buy it right now. But the price itself is negligable.

Anyway, that's my pricing rant for the month, back to your regularly scheduled thread...

Epoch retina update is pretty underwhelming.

New Cordy game is fun. Not the same as original cordy though, just a vertical pinball kind of thing.

Fibble is great! Once you get a few of the characters it's fun planning your way through all the coins and stars to get the maximum points. I imagine it looks lovely on an iPad.

Anyone played Cubemen? Interesting art style, just wondering what the game is like.

edit: Didn't see it had been asked already on this page.

Going to give it a go at lunch :)

Anyone tried cubemen yet? Looks interesting but £2.50 is a bit steep for a blind buy

How about Epoch?

Picked up Epoch when it was a buck, and I've really enjoyed it. I think it makes a great match for iOS, and I prefer it over Infinity Blade, which I also really enjoyed. It gets pretty repetitive, though. The main selling point over IP, for me, is the little story tidbits it throws at you. Very nice, little package.

I bought Field Runners just recently and like it a lot. ( Ipad is my first iOS device, so I'am bit late to the party ). I wanna buy Anomaly Warzone Earth. Do you guys reckon it's worth it?

Thanks.

The Launching Pad guys are working on an update to add more puzzles, achievements, and a couple of other bits and pieces. Should be submitted within the next couple of weeks.

We have a Lite version coming out next week too, so other people will be able to try it more easily.

Oh man dude I went on a PikPok rampage. Loved the Monster Flip style and bought Monsters Ate My Condo and Slam Dunk as well.

You guys rule.

Tower Defense: Lost Earth, dropped to 0.99.

Anyone play this? Is it worth it? I have no interest in something I have to buy IAP for in order to play/be good at. Anyone recommend?

Well, that teleport didn't go as planned...

fuuuuuuuuuuu.jpg

I love this game. I might just buy the IAP to support the devs.

I'm pretty sure I bought the IAP for the same reason. Game is hard, but a LOT of fun.

@Wario64 If only, haha. Xenosaga on the iPhone? :3 But alas, it is not. Xenome.

You will hit a point where it is extremely frustrating to proceed unless you buy the IAP. i deleted it. Can't stand shit like that.

Get Sentinel 3 instead. Similar game with better balance.

One of the better iOS platformers around, feels a lot like LittleBigPlanet.

Just to provide another point of view, I think it's an utterly bland, generic and boring platformer that happens to have great visuals.

But I'm also not fond of Little Big Planet, so...

it's ok, the maps I played all felt like if you did not follow a set pattern for turrets you will lose, it's trial and error which I dislike.

Oh god, I hope that takes off as much as the iCade did. Not only does it not cover the screen, but it's actually *better* (in theory, providing the response time can be reduced) than an analog joystick.

We'd better see this get taken up by mainstream devs.

I guess battery life would be the issue if the camera has to be on constantly.

We have just pulled Kids vs Goblins from the appstore because for some reason it doesn't run on the new iPad. :(

We're going to try to fix it asap
