Wtf, I have 2.8gb of free space and the AppStore don't let me download Bard's Tale because of space. How big is this game?

Check the app page, they say it takes up to 3.4 gigs if you're downloading over Wi-Fi due to compressed file & uncompressed install.

So yeah... it's a big bitch.

The App Store download is 1.4 GB and the uncompressed game is 1.7 GB, so you'll need around 3.1 GB of free space to install it.

e: oh hello new page. nice to meet you

What are you 50ppp people talkin' bout? :P

Just realised I can play Telltale games now with my iPad. BttF HD 1 is free and quite alright.

eh, might as well have been a QTE game with how insultingly easy the game is. The first episode din't compel me to buy any more. I just don't get the telltale love.

At least their games go on sale pretty much every two weeks, so I've also bought Puzzle Agent 1 and 2 cheap. Puzzle agent 1 was short as hell and even repeated puzzles.

Judging from this thread on Shmups Forum, it has framerate issues on some devices and otherwise isn't really up to par with Cave's ports for what they're charging for it.
At least Darius Burst is at least done nicely, although still flawed in its own ways.
That's a thing? That's the only game I have wanted to play that's come out for 3DS. Awesome if that happens.
Yeah it was announced a few months back I think, haven't heard anything about it since.

The Bard's Tale was totally worth the wait (and the file size). This game looks FANTASTIC with the retina update. It makes me desperately want Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance on the iPad, and saddens me that the OG Baldur's Gate coming out this summer isn't going to look anywhere near this good.

I totally respect the purists that like the look of games like Avadon and OG Baldur's Gate, but I was introduced to this series with Dark Alliance, and this retina update REALLY leans towards those amazing looking spin-offs.

Somebody a few pages back posted something called Planescape with modded+ bumped up gfx, and that looks like the flavor of the stuff that I want to play!

Wow I'm glad it came out well. Always thought it was a pretty underrated game. Not a particularly meaty RPG and it lacks the co-op of BGDA but just a really fun light RPG.

The BG:EE will look great, unless you think this looks bad... It'll support 2048x1536, support dynamic pinch to zoom, new UI, and it has a much, much better story and deeper combat mechanics than BG:DA. To me, the 2D art in the infinity engine games is pretty timeless, along with the gameplay behind them.

As much as I love BGDA, I really hadn't considered that most of that enjoyment came from the co-op. I'm beginning to question if that could be done on iOS considering that I've yet to see a good co-op game on the platform. What are some of the better PC isometric high-gloss RPGs that are great for single player that would work well on the iOS? Off the top (and although it wasn't PC), i can only recall the Diablo Clone, Record of Lodoss War on the Dreamcast....which could also use a graphics bump.

Well, admittedly, that looks better than Avadon: The Black Fortress....

The Bard's Tale looked ugly in many ways (outside some high quality models and stuff) back when it first came out, I don't think high res/lack of aliasing (all "retina" does at best, it's not magic...) fixes that (or it'd have been pretty on PC back then). As for Planescape "modded + bumped up gfx" that was just the original game in high resolution as it's essentially a 2D game (pre-rendered stuff, sprites out of renders, etc) so all you get with higher resolution is a larger viewing area, same as you get in the "OG Baldur's Gate" and every other IE game. Nothing like the actually 3D Dark Alliance games but pretty all the same thanks to the amazing "OG" art. The Dark Alliance games probably need buttons & a stick as they weren't point & click RPG games but instead action hack & slash titles but yeah, with some creativity in assigning functions the IE games should control well enough as the BGEE will hopefully prove. Avadon and the rest of the Spiderweb games are a far cry from IE stuff. Maybe mechanically they have some similarities but they lack said amazing art, much of the engine's visual flair, and look nothing like Baldur's Gate.

The new Bard's Tale is 3D like BGDA. The OG Bard's Tale is in the game, too. I'm raving over the 3D version. I'm looking for stuff like Dungeon Siege, Champions of Norrath, and Titan's Quest on the iPAD. Those are awesome-looking....

Well, here's Dark Alliance 2 (and here's the original), not what I'd call much of a looker either, if we're being picky. ;) I have fond memories of Dark Alliance myself, for the co-op, but I've never had the courage to revisit it solo.

I think you're holding up too much on graphics, there's not a ton of difference between the games you're comparing as poor to those that are good. At least I don't see it.

Titan Quest I'll give you though, that one looks great. Too bad it got a bit boring for me, though I did finish it along with the expansion. You could try the Dungeon Hunter games, or the Infinity Blade Dungeons if you want something a little flashier and aren't focused on depth/plot.

So I just finished all the levels and go all the clocks in BEAT SNEAK BANDIT. But-I didn't get the last 2 achievements that are for that. Did anyone else experience that?

Bard's Tale is actually very ugly. I do like some models though, and the water rippling effect is pretty impressive given it's time.

Anyway, enjoying the game. Better than what I expected actually, as I usually don't like humor in games, but it's working for me in this case.

Yes, I'm talking about that "new" 8 year old game there.

Titan's Quest does look pretty in the better designed areas.

After pecking around looking for gameplay videos, I'll have to give in. It may just be in my memory that keeps the luster on BGDA. I loved that game, though.

I really didn't know that they made a Bard's Tale remake so long ago!

After digging around, though, I was trying to find out if the Titan's Quest guys are working on an iOS port - which seems totally logical. Apparently, they've been working on something called GRIM DAWN which is blowing my mind. Same Diablo-style (which seems to be causing a resurgence). Crossing my fingers of an iOS port of this.

I guess the best it's going to get really is Infinity Blade: Dungeons. No clue when that's coming...
These type of games on an iPAD just seems like a natural fit...

board game geeks might wanna look at Mother Lode, on sale for .99 (down from $3)

Pretty good little indie that is a riff on Survive.
2-4 player game against AI or pass and play.

dev is pretty much a one man show:

if you click through to his Facebook there are some promo codes posted ... don't know if any are still good or not

I've been meaning to ask, are you a fellow Slade?

my nickname is Slade and I am a fellow
so yes on either or both accounts
:)

Haha ah, that's my real name. I don't find too many other ones!

Got one of those Mother Lode codes to work. Just joined the board game community on GAF so that was perfect. Thanks.

Cool!
I've never known of anyone who had that as a real name.

Yeah I figured some of the codes there were good since he only has like 30 Likes.

Game is pretty good for a one man project imo . . . hopefully he adds some multiplayer in there in the future.

Tickets for ride is soooooo good. I downloaded it awhile ago because of gaf hype, but never got to play it as usual (not kairosoft? Sorry gotta wait, the list is long). But yesterday I started playing it out of curiousity. OMG. So good.

Ticket to Ride is a mess. It's not universal and asynchronous play is only available on the iPhone version. Carcassonne and Ascension remain unchallenged, IMO.

I did, there's a weird achievement lag in BSB. I don't remember if it happened with those achievements in particular but more than once I'd fill a requirement and the achievement would take a long time to be marked in my GC profile and inside the game itself. It will pop there eventually, a couple of them took hours to register for me.

I just bought Monster Flip, pretty fun and nice art style.

Thanks.

The Launching Pad guys are working on an update to add more puzzles, achievements, and a couple of other bits and pieces. Should be submitted within the next couple of weeks.

We have a Lite version coming out next week too, so other people will be able to try it more easily.

I still have some time left and am considering exchanging my 16gb iPad 3 for a 32gb

If you can do it without losing money, do it. I sold my iPad 2 16gb to buy a 3rd gen iPad 32gb when I came close to filling it up in the 5 months I owned it.

Also, it's nice that Cave made Futari a Universal release. Still wondering why they didn't do that for DOJ.
