Is it already out? I'm not seeing it on the UK store.

Part of me needs to complete the dream sequences on a touchscreen. I suspect I may evolve afterwards.

You will become a being of pure light, of pure thought.

What we didn't see at the end of 2001 is Space Baby was completing one of the most infuriating levels in any game ever on a touch screen...

Edit: The Hacker is free for the time being.

Hah :D

Down to 1 weaponthane now... and 0 food ;_;

First time I played I didn't care for it much either, because it's pretty overwhelming/confusing at first.

After stumbling through for a bit, I read through a large portion of the tutorial or encyclopedia or whatever it is the game has built in for help, and the. I started a new game. Doing it in this order really helped me to grasp the game, which is admittedly somewhat difficult to get into.

I haven't played KoDP in quite a few months now, but I can offer a few tips from what I remember.

Try to make your council balanced, with people who are strong In different subjects (as opposed to going for the people who have the most "excellent" or "very good" ratings). These people will keep you on the right course, so you want to cover all the different points. At the same time though, you also want to have a council that worships as many different gods as possible. I can't remember why, but I remember struggling with this.

Check with your council often, to see what they think you should do next. You can go with whatever sounds best, but take their opinions into consideration. If multiple people tell you the same thing, go with that. When an event pops up, I always take a vote. But there isn't always a right/wrong choice to be made.

To build shrines first you have to sacrifice for "mysteries". This unlocks a random blessing (does not give the blessing, only unlocks it). Then you can sacrifice for a temporary blessing (iirc) or build a temple for a permanant blessing. Temples have an annual cost of cows and goods, and the cost increases exponentially if you want multiple blessings from one god.

In the beginning of the year when you make your sacrifices, you want to pick a direction and sacrifice accordingly. Don't go for a catch all. Health and crops are good every year. The rest, you should try and focus on a goal each year (mysteries, or war, or diplomacy, questing, etc). It's also good to save some magic for battle.

Don't be surprised to fail the hero quests. They're difficult, although I believe you can learn the lore in the game, and then use that as a guide. You're reinacting "history", so knowing the legends ahead of time helps.

That's all I can think of for now. This info might not be 100%. It comes from my faulty memory, and there's a good chance that I wasn't playing the right way to begin with. Writing this has inspired me to go play some more though :)

This game looks interesting:

http://kotaku.com/5900674/crow-could-be-the-greatest-iphone-game-ive-ever-played

Never heard of it until now though.

Saw the trailer for that a few weeks ago.
Graphics and atmosphere look fabulous and the soundtrack top notch.

I'm not certain that the gameplay is gonna be very deep, tho - kinda hard to tell from the vids I seen.
I may grab it just cuz nothing else really interests me this week.

Definitely looks a must buy for anyone that goes gaga over the artsy stuff, regardless, imo.

I feel like I missed something with epic astro story

16 years, small handful of buildings, area fully explored long ago and most of of it is unusable, 2 planets to visit and they're fully explored, all residents I could get...seems like I should've made a lot more progress by now

Huge thanks Azriell - some great information and guidance there :) Has inspired me to start up another game! Fingers crossed my clan will survive this time.

Think I may just forget the quests altogether this time - I kept trying to complete them last time and lost so many important characters along the way ;_; Think I'm going to go for a peaceful route too, rather than attaching people.

The delightful Burnout Crash hits iPhone and iPad tonight/tomorrow.

And it brings with it an utterly cringeworthy launch trailer.

So I love Ascension and Nightfall both. Can't wait until they get expansions (especially Nightfall obviously since it's just base right now). But flipping back and forth between the games one big differentiating point for Nightfall is that Ascension is full of those oh-come-fucking-on moments where the board just plays out ridiculously perfect for the active player. If it's early on, you can be super fucked by that. In Nightfall you have monster hands for sure, but you feel much more in control. Like in my experience basically you are building up the entire game for one massive final attack and it feels really rewarding when it comes through.

Both approaches have merit which is why I'm glad I get to play both. :D

man, now I have to get Nightfall. I've been pretty pissed about the Ascension app not getting timely updates for the expansions (RotF came out on iOS maybe a month before SoS came out physically), and I need something to fill the gap a little better.

don't forget it's the same dev though! :p thankfully there's a huge backlog of expansions so hopefully we'll get some relatively soon.

it's also way harder to learn than ascension fwiw but if you're not intimidated by having to spend a bit of time learning the rules it's a lot of fun

I can't believe GAF refuses to spit a hot 16 in the name of fun and fabulous prizes.

Here's a W.E.L.D.E.R. code for the less motivated. Be the first person to write a 4 line rap about being a holier-than-thou Apple user.

I learned to play Arkham Horror. I think I'll be ok. :P

Love everything about the game except the quests make no damn sense. I feel like even after reading the lore pages I am just guessing and wasting magic+ring members.

I know it's evil or whatever but honestly just read a FAQ about what decisions to make. Even if you know every correct choice you can still lose if your attributes aren't up to snuff and you don't make your roll (I think there are rolls ... I forget). Honestly that is like 1% of the game anyway. (my 2c)

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Give me this code
Or I shall crush you

Fair enough -- but not everyone has! (Also the tutorial in the game is really barebones -- you have to actually go out and read the manual although the quickplay guide I posted above plus tutorial should get you 75% of the way there.)

You beg, I DELIVER!

I like my Apple iPhone
It's so fresh and so clean-clean.
Fuck your Android in the butt
Screw your huge AMOLED touch-screen.

E: Aww, I lose.

For being a good sport, PM me your email and the name of a 99 cent app and I'll gift it to you.

yeah, you're really right about that tutorial. it was just "do this, now do this, now do this" and hardly explained anything. the whole turn order in general feels really awkward with who attacks when, but I'll dig through the manual and quickplay guide and I'm sure that should make things clearer.

yeah if you read quickplay and play a few games and still have questions i'm happy to answer know the game about 99% now after having played 30+ games; last step would be figuring out corner cases which will require me to go to BGG rules forum :p

Downloaded the free version of Galaxy on Fire 2, and all it did was to reinforce my thoughts that any game that uses an on screen joystick is crap. The game is great, and it'd be awesome to play it with a proper controller. But I will not spend a penny on it to play on a touchscreen.

Touchscreen is and will always be of limited use in action games except for specific circumstances that don't require 3D movement. It's great for strategy games though or any game where your moves aren't constrained by time.

I guess I'll just have to wait for the PC version.

You can play with gyro controls too.

But the game's not particularly great tbh. Freelancer-lite. And Freelancer was already more lite than it should have been.

That's probably why I have actually won a game or two of Ascension.
