The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |Thread4| NOT Doomed

Yeah, it isn't perfect, but for a buck (I got the iPhone version), it's gotta be the best option on iOS for a Diablo clone. The variety is pretty damned impressive (the music too, which adds a surprising amount of excitement to dungeon crawls). It's also my understanding that the dungeons are randomly generated (each playthrough), so there's ample incentive to try out each of the three classes.

yep. Until Epic's Infinity Blade: Dungeons, this game and The Bard's Tale is as good as it gets on the iPad. I've been having a lot of fun rediscovering Pocket RPG. I wrote it off initially for being too simple, but once I committed to it, I've found that it's an incredibly well-produced game with no small amount of depth once you start unlocking special moves. It takes me a good 30 minutes to complete each level.

Although it's dated, I'd still recommend Companions by smuttlewerk interactive. It's kinda Diablo-ish as you're dungeon crawling and loot grabbing, but there's also this very strategic team management and movement thing that adds a lot of depth. I *hated* the first 30 minutes as the characters are tiny, the levels seem a little bland, and team movement has an annoying learning curve. However, once you get comfortable with the movement, the game turns out to be an iPAD GEM.

I've tried countless times to get into Dungeon Hunter 2. That game is so bland and generic that I can never make it through a level. Sure, on paper, it's a perfect clone. It functions properly, and seems to have the right tone...

But man PLAYING it is such a joyless experience, though...

hmm. can iExplorer use previous backup files and do selective restore?
I am trying to locate the save files of my games in backup files and restore to my iPad :/
iExplorer is solely for copying/restoring files on the device itself.

This I've never understood. When i enable iCloud backup on my iPad, it lets me choose from my list of apps the ones that I want to enable for iCloud's backup, and the data is usually under 1MB or even half that. I supposed those were the saves back up, are they not?
Only apps that have data in the Documents & Data section in iCloud actually store save games in the cloud for syncing between devices (seen under Manage Storage).

Apparently that Total War Battles is gonna get a bit more attractive.

First, beating the campaign gives you a Steam code for the Sendai Clan Pack for Total War: Shogun 2 – Fall of The Samurai.
Then an upcoming update will be adding a Skirmish mode featuring selectable difficulty levels, with all campaign units immediately available, and new legendary units.

Still not Total War, but a bit more fleshed out for your $7

hmm. that means... only a very small portion actually use the Cloud :/
like Shantae.

i'm trying to retrieve my Tiny Tower game. gosh. this is such a chore.
iOS Gaming is awesome but hope Cloudsaving becomes a common feature soon

I'll never understand why more developers don't use iCloud. It's so frustrating that they don't.

i give up. seems like i won't be able to get back my Tiny Tower save file
I thought the iTunes/iCloud backups backed up everything. (don't know for certain I've only ever used the iTunes version) the big problem is it also only restores everything too--no restoring just a single app. Also, if an app is not in the backup it gets all its data wiped.

Welcome to gameloft

So I'm thinking about getting an iCade for one of my friends birthday. Is it worth it? Are more games going to be supported down the line?
Midway Arcade just added support in the last couple weeks. There will probably be more adding support, but I'm not expecting a huge rush or amount...

i tried restoring all my previous backups. seems like none of them captured my Tiny Tower save :/

5 codes up for grabs....(US only, sorry)

All done

I personally think it's worth it. But it all comes down to how many of the supported games you'll end up playing. I've got quite a bit, and it seems like more and more developers are adding support in to their games.

thanks! grabbed the first one :D
where are you guys getting all these codes man

I have 3 iphones and 2 ipads in the house. i just go to each and start freeappdaily. i dont even have to download games or apps anymore, they just throw the code at me. might as well share with GAF...

im about to have the rest of the iOS devices sign up for freemyapp off a tweet from my primary ipad so i can share whatever i get from there too.

Hmm...appreciate the impressions. I've had my eye on it for a while, but the Gameloft games are typically so big. Was planning on picking it up at some point, but really, I think Pocket RPG has pretty much everything I've wanted from this type of game on iOS.

Will have to pass on the new IB game, unfortunately, as I'm still using a 3GS, but yeah, it does look like it will be a pretty awesome game.

Thanks. I'm sure he'll get a kick out of it and it's $75 on Amazon right now.

From what I understand, cloud saving has some quite restrictive storage limits which it seems most devs can't work into. Heres hoping the limit is increased for iOS 6.

I wondered why I had not tried it when I saw your post. Then I saw the art and UI design and remembered why. Might give it a go if it goes free sometime but I am not paying for something that looks like that.

The graphics grow on you.
:(

^ mine is only ike 5052...

Does anyone else think the Jetpack Joyride updates made it load slower instead of faster as they claimed? On first load.

Anyway,

I bought Kids vs Goblins.

I'm not sure I like it.

It's very much like Raid Leader, but with a story and map/missions type fluff that make it seem deeper and more complete.

I thought it would be more like a real time SRPG, my bad.

The kids feel like they're in auto mode a lot of the time, double tapping on enemies doesn't seem to apply properly.

Decent production values, nothing impressive, nothing too bad though, maybe some cut scene animations and behaviour.

The occasional hitches on the iPad2 cheapened it as the voice overs are affected so it's not just visual, it's noticable in the intro.

I hope it's not too grindy, so far the crystal rewards which you then use to buy skills etc come in low numbers.

I haven't seen the ability to control the camera zoom/angle, which is irritating.

The environments so far are too small for it to matter in terms of positional strategy but I'd like to see more than a few feet ahead.

I've only done a couple missions after first getting to the map.

I also bought Kingdom Rush.

People said it's so awesome it can revitalise interest in tower defence etc.

It seems ordinary to me, if well made.

I'm still near the beginning I just about got all the tower upgrades, I haven't upgraded any specials yet.

At least it replaced Spice Invaders in my installed games pool, for now.

Finally, I bought Shark Dash.

It does seem less derivative than other Gameloft stuff.

There's something about the graphics that irritates me slightly. Maybe they don't have enough animation frames or something.

The physics can be a bit wonky, when the larger objects push other stuff on/under the surface in particular.

I hope later levels are more fun and inventive, then it will have been worth it, it's fairly well made.

That's it. I just got these with the leftover change in my games account after waiting for the last Kickstart to withdraw its amount to be sure I have some left... I feel I should have gotten one of the gog.com deals instead, like Nox, but oh well, I forgot...

Anyone used the Heroes in Kingdom Rush effectively? They seem pretty expensive for what they do but maybe I just don't have enough experience with them. Wish I could grind for more stars so I could have both Heroes and maxed-out buildings.
