The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |Thread4| NOT Doomed

I've been a champion of indy/flash gaming for over 5 years now. The iPad kind of bridges that gap of making that type of game available on a portable device. There is a still a long way to go before it can totally usurp my PC though. There are still a ton of bite-sized games on their that never make it to iOS.

It also reminds me of the shareware scene on the PC in the early-mid 90s. Games like Commander Keen, Duke Nukem, Catacomb, Wolfenstein, Doom, Hugo etc.
You'd get the first episodes for free and I didn't know anything about those games until I played them and they blew me away.

I even remember sending off by mail for a huge collection of shareware games (for the same price as one retail game), not knowing anything about the games and that's where I first played Hugo amongst others.

I'm fed up of AAA games and their hype. To me they never deliver on their potential. And you waste stupid amounts of money finding that out.

So Super Crossfire is a really cool game.

All the Radiangames titles are really, really good.

If you don't have either Fireball SE or Ballistic SE, you should definitely check them out as well.
All offer that same arcade style experience and are on sale for only $0.99 each right now.

Fireball SE is one of my favorite iOS games.

Anyone still play Junk Jack? LOVE the game, but holy cow...Organization is nearly impossible. Any tips? I have 9 chests full of random shit at the moment.

I enjoy the occasional iOS game as much as the next (buy chaos rings 2), but yall drinkin the kool aid to think it will replace a Mass Effect or Assassin's Creed or Red Dead Redemption.

Glad you guys found time to enjoy some form of gaming in your "busy lives" though. If building lego blocks in Junk Jack counts as gaming I guess.

Honestly curious because of discussion, how old are you?

Yay, tribez is out now on iPhone (free)!

Quoted for new page, thanks! Gonna get it and check it out, got a lot of praise here :p

Edit: also just noticed that Draw Race 2 is on sale! It's a great game, get it :p you draw the path of your race car on a circuit (spee of the car depending on speed of your finger, so you have to slow down at curves otherwise it slides off the course etc), has good multiplayer too :)

Hey all, seems like a possibly good place to ask. Has anyone bought an iPhone case from society6? It looks like they're manufactured by Case-Mate who I've never purchased something from. Would like to get one for my fiancee but was hoping to get some input from others first into their quality.

Thanks!

Yup.

Awesome game. Wish there were quests though (they're coming I think?). If there were, this would easily be the best game I have on iOS.

Organisation is pretty tough. I stick bones in one box, blocks in another and plants in another. I've only just started though so I don't have too much stuff.

Anyone check out this Score! Classic Goals ? ($0.99)
It is not up my alley at all, but seems like it might be some folks cup of tea.

Basically seems to be a line drawing puzzle game wrapped up in a package of you recreating
classic goals from the past 40 years.

It's from the same people who made First Touch Soccer.
Can't say how good it is ... but thought someone might be interested.

From their press release :

It is pretty much perfection. Someone mentioned it on the last page, but it is kind of like an expansion on the flick, kick, football game. I love it. If you like Flick Kick Football, or New Star Soccer, I highly recommend it. And the guys have a great pedigree in their other games; First Touch Soccer, and Dream League Soccer.

Brilliant, brilliant game. Just the perfect on-the-go 5 minute game.

Yep, great game. The best racer I've played on the platform so far. Buy it!

Add me to the long list with you guys.

I used to be obsessed with games, I had to buy pretty much everything that came out.

Now? I can't even finish Mass Effect 3. My fiancé and I bought a house a couple months ago which adds another layer of responsibility where I just can't game like I used to. Thank god for iOS.
I realized it's not necessarily about having less time (I'm 36), but more about valuing my time. If I'm going to play a game that's just "okay," I'd rather play something I can easily pick up and put down at will. I save console gaming for titles that I know will be exceptional. Everything else just gets a rental. Otherwise, I game on iOS.

That said, I love iOS gaming, but I have yet to find a game that is truly great in the way that my favorite console/PC games are (Metroid, SMB3, AC1, Morrowind, etc). I'm sure it's just a matter of time, and it's not for lack of trying.

For now, iOS gaming is about hunting for that exceptional experience more than it is about actually experiencing it. And I'm confident that iOS developers feel the same way. That's what makes it so exciting. Everyone's questing for the holy grail.

I honestly wish that there was a DECENT diablo clone on iOS. Dungeon Hunter doesn't cut it.

Pocket RPG is appropriately scratching the itch while I wait for Dungeons. I've played through the game with all the classes already though so I'm kind of done with it...

Dungeons...I need thee...

I guess I'll try Pocket RPG...the screenshots didn't really wow me-but if the gameplay is there I'll be good I guess...

There's a lite version out there to give it a shot.

Oh man, IGN's preview got me really hyped for Infinity Blade Dungeons. Until my PC can properly run Diablo 3, this is going to scratch that itch nicely.

There is a new game highly ranked on Japan app store with Lolita girls eating hot dogs...wish I were kidding but it has bunch of 5 star reviews saying 'omg let me change camera angle please' (in Japanese )

Anyone else only gaming on iOS now?

I really can't be bothered sitting at my desk PC gaming now or booting up consoles and hogging the TV. On top of that, at 32 I really don't have the time for the type of games I used to play (loot crawls, MMO's).

The idea of just crashing on the coach with my iPad and maybe a Vita really appeals to me (and my GF as she can still talk to me rather than when I am at my desk).

I seem to have finally done what I thought I would never do: grown out of "mainstream" gaming. I still love games culture but I spend more time reading about them than playing them.

It helps that the iPad is maturing, with stuff like Dungeons of Dredmor, Legend of Grimrock, Frozen Synaps and BG:EE on the way I doubt I will just be matching cakes forever.

I'm the opposite actually. I've been moving from consoles to pc and getting more hardcore than ever at 27 going on 28, re-discovering old crpgs and trying to find more complex and rewarding games. I can't focus on small mobile games anymore, I need something substantial to smink my teeth into. I also gave up on most iOS gaming because of controls. The kind of games I want to play usually are a horrible fit for touch controls. When portable consoles die (should be pretty soon), i hope there will be more stuff like the iCade or other physical control merhods to cater to us traditional gamers.

Not really feeling Extinction Squad. :/

Seems a bit mindless/grindy, and not in a particularly fun way.

I just downloaded it-and for the 10 minutes I played it-I did like it a lot-reminds me a bit of Jetpack Joyride and Ski Safari in the "format" of the game-with repeating simple gameplay and trying to improve your score each time...

The Funhouse update on Pinball Arcade is pretty solid. Great board.

Is there a release date on Infinity Blade Dungeons? I would think they'd want to launch that alongside Diablo. Hopefully we'll get a surprise release really soon.

Can certainly relate to all the iOS gaming love over the last few pages. I'm there, but not enough to commit to only iOS. It's just not good enough still.
Currently also playing Uncharted3 on PS3, League of Legends on PC (yes, iOS Legendary Heroes is awesome), and looking forward to Lollipop Chainsaw.

But outside of those few, all the rest of my gaming time is iOS, and yes, it is awesome, and yes, it has the feel of late 80's/early 90's gaming exploration of so many titles to sift through to find the gold. :)

The board games. OMG the board games! TtR, Ascension, Carc, Nightfall, Tigris, Ra, Caylus.

Is Legendary Heroes a LoL clone or something?

And yeah, dude. The iPad is basically the greatest board game machine ever. I'd much rather play these games on iOS than with an actual board. My family got TtR this Christmas, and we completely stopped playing it once we got it on ios. It's just better.

Can't wait until Dominion hit iOS. That REALLY needs to happen soon.

Yes! Best genre by far. :D Twiztid you are in the iOS board-game thread yes? Just wanted to flag it in case not.

No no no! We'll bust out iPad at game night if we're running out of time (b/c you can play Carc or TTR about 20m faster) but it's no substitute. Screen is just too small for big-group gaming, and just the fact that most games don't deal with secret information well and just don't properly think of how to really do single-device gaming. It's still a very cool backup thing to have around or if you're just in a rush, but async is by far the killer feature for me. (Also it's just really cool to be able to easily play TTR, Carc, etc. on a plane -- superfly).

Is it really? Haven't read much about it, can you give us some feedback? it'd be much appreciated. Also, GET YO ASS OVER HERE TO THE IOS BOARDGAME THREAD. Add everyone. Invite everyone to games. Wake up 2 months later hating AstroLad.
