Exactly the same as me, unfortunately after hearing such great things about Defender Chronicles I had high hopes for the sequel but the game seems extremely archaic in comparison to Kingdom Rush.

European War series and World Conqueror on sale for 99c. Games look like board game meets Europa Universalis. Some comments from players who bought them?
Are they good for someone who like setting and strategy but doesn't want the Europa Universalis/Victoria complexity?

I'm glad I hesitated on that one. The aesthetic of it put me off more than anything. Not at all doubting that it has some deep gameplay in there, but it didn't look like I'd be able to drudge through it to appreciate it.

As a side note, I'm loving our Hero Academy games. Whenever you do something I wasn't expecting I shake my fist at the heavens and shout "AN-I-LONES!!!!" in frustration...OK that happened once, but it happened!

Also, bought Autumn Dynasty and kind of don't like it. Pacing feels a bit off and the controls weren't clicking with me. Production of it seems decent and all, but the actual gameplay felt blah. Only played the tutorial bit, though :lol Games need to get me quick otherwise I'm so quick to toss them. Too many other games I could be playing! All the random story elements felt like crap to me. For some reason I really dislike chatting between characters that you have to keep tapping to advance through. Give me Gears of War style exposition while I'm playing so I can pay attention to it, but I'm still playing the game. NOVA does that a bit, but even that game takes control away from you too much that I don't like. Let me keep playing the game! Unless your story is incredible, I'm not paying attention! Autumn Dynasty starting out with a lowly prince dude getting robbed of his clothes and being belittled by the general is obviously setting up for a redemption storyline where he becomes a great commander himself...but I don't give a shit! It feels like some story was tacked on to a neat game idea and doesn't at all connect with what I'm doing in a meaningful way.

Yet I keep coming back to Jetpack Joyride...fuck my life

Interesting to see people's reactions to Defender Chronicles II - so many on here absolutely raved about the first game, but I just really didn't see the appeal myself

Eh, okay. I'll give it a shot. Hopefully they'll update it to allow moving the controls.

I'm going to go and buy Plague Inc while it's on sale too, since they are supposed to add Universal support to it with the first update.

If it turns out you don't like it then please join me making a stink about it in my bottom-screen vpad haters club. The more of us that spit the dummy and call bullshit on this, the less it will happen (I hope).

If however it turns out you love the controls like that, then keep it to yourself will ya? :P

btw, I didn't like the controls even beyond the idiotic placement. The feel floaty and slow which is my watchword for what I played of the game. I had zero interest in continuing, even if the controls didn't make me rage.

Virtua Tennis is better than I expected. Yeah, it's a little choppy on my iPad 2, but it's very playable. The core gameplay is there and it's quality stuff. My biggest beef with it is the lack of a more developed World Tour mode. Hopefully it's something they will add later. For $5 I think it's worth it if you like VT.

I also like the swipe controls.

Wow, some very strong feelings towards the story, heh. Yeah, it's nothing special, but there's a button to skip it so...

Game is great. Hopefully you will give another shot and it will click with you. You can hardly "get" a RTS by only playing the tutorial. But hey, maybe it's not your cup of tea.

Speaking of Autumn Dynasty, I changed a couple of MP's with one of the devs (at TA) and they have some big plans for the game. He mentioned a conquer the world mode (with more strategy elements) and sci-fi/WW2 reskins, amongst other things.

These games look like Risk more than they do Paradox titles.

edit: I played through Frederic : Resurrection of Music last night on my iPad since it was only $1 due to BecauseWeMay. Game's awesome.

I'll likely end up giving it a more fair shot later...I mean I paid $5 for it so I WANT to like it. It just didn't grab me in the way that I was hoping it would. Unit control felt a bit clunky even during the tutorial but I'm sure that's something I'd get used to and get better at over time. The concept of it and the style of it are great, so it at least has a chance to click with me!

My rant on story is more a knock against the thought that a story is needed to make a game good. This felt like a situation where the story really wasn't adding anything to the gameplay and was just tacked on. I'm still very early though, so maybe I'm just being a loser about it all!

Well, in this case the story serves the purpose of setting up the design of the missions. For instance, in one mission you have to travel and help a base under attack. That setup is much more interesting with some context behind.

Sure, they could simply throw the same situations without giving this context, but personally I like when there's a story giving me that. I can see where you're coming from though.

I'm sorta just now getting back into iOS gaming so I'm not all caught up yet, but what was the general opinion here of Gunman Clive?

I've been seeing it mentioned a lot lately in other places to universal acclaim, but you know how easily the media can follow the crowd sometimes.

HUGE Tribez update this morning, now you can get to the 4th island as well as ship materials back and forth between islands so you can build everything everywhere. They also expanded the first island dramatically. Definitely a lot of stuff to do even if you've already maxed everything out.

It came out for iphone too, a few weeks ago

Civilization Revolution just got a major update!

The graphics are now decent on the iPad! Retina, animated units and no weird graphics popping in and out when you zoom unzoom.

I was hoping for a new Civ game, but this update makes the experience more enjoyable.

I was told it doesn't add retina, can you confirm it does? If so I am buying it now.

Yeah, it's cool, ain't it!

The iPhone version got the same update. Did 'em both last night.

Pretty sure it's not retina but it still looks nice and reasonably sharp on my iPad (3).

It's kind of bizarre. It seems like half-retina. Some stuff looks good but other stuff still looks bad. The map and resources and units look bad but stuff like text in the menus looks good.

Finally took the plunge today and:
A) I've made a JPN account for Jubeat Plus to get those juicy free 3 songs
B) finally put down 10$+ and bought Darius Burst. I was always jelly of the game on PSP (as some of you guys probably know I'm a shmup nut) and seeing that the game never had a drop in price since release back in February I've come to the conclusion that it was no good waiting anymore to get a discount. I wish the game had iCade support, hopefully it controls fine with touch controls on my iPad. If you guys are interested let me know and I could write down some impressions as soon as I've put my hands on the game a bit.

Non game-related question:

I decided to cave in and reactivate my Facebook account (yep, I was without one since having one years ago and proudly so :P), I was wondering if you guys could point me out what's the best way to use FB on iPad? Thanks!

You should grab REFLEC BEAT plus while you're at it.

I have Darius Burst SP but didn't really put much time into it. Seems solid though, and it's certainly one of the better looking shmups on iOS. The only problem with it is it can never be as wide as the arcade (lol)

On Facebook, as mentioned, the official app seems to be the best choice, but just using the desktop site in Safari works much better. I only ever launch the app if I need to upload photos.

Tap deLight, the most recent game I've had the pleasure of designing, is finally out for iOS. You can grab it for free at http://bit.ly/TapDeLightIOS

Basically, your goal is to lead a moth-like insect to his girlfriend by turning on lights at the appropriate moments. There's four worlds, CGI cutscenes, lots of avatars to unlock (you can play as a ladybug or a zombie, for example) and some cool power-ups. We also have a Bike Baron style scoring system, which should increase the replay value.

Hope you like it!

According to the update notes, "Early Bird" is free atm! It's a fun little game, think stickman golf but you're a bird that has to catch a worm. Can't go wrong, fun enough for free ;)

Cool. I'll have to check it out. It's one of those games that will never leave my phone. I'm always up for a week-long tear of Civ.

Weird. I'm not even off of the first island.

So Bards Tale, any gaffers have fun playing it? Opinions and the like would be appreciated. Also I'm not interested in the old games just the Xbox port.

I've had a blast with it so far. I hit a jam with so many games coming out that I haven't really played it recently, though. But it's definitely awesome. Well worth the $3 they're asking, imo.

Despite being a complete newbie in the genre, after 10 days I can safely day Starbase Orion is superb.
Venturing against normal AI...it's killer.
Async is ton of fun and very well implemented.

no iphone tribez update it seems?

My game Love Me Not is coming out tonight.

Love Me Not is inspired by the childhood game of picking the petals off of flowers to guess the interest of your crush. To play all you have to do is tilt your phone to spin the flower, and tap petals to shoot them.
