Same level of quality, but also very samey. The last two, especially this latest one, are probably the most Kairosoft have expanded on their formula. I've tried a few of them now, and they're all good games. But I never quite enjoyed any of 'em as much as I did GDS. I think the whole premise and the awesome nods to that type of nerdom just made it all the more fun for me.

Exactly. I was hopelessly addicted to Game Dev Story but the rest of the games just never carried my interest. It seems like with each one I play I care about the games less and less. I guess I have just tired of the core formula.

So Game Dev Story has been a massive hit for me, so much so that it's preventing me from getting anything done at work, how are Kairosoft Co's other games? Can I expect the same level of quality? Mega Mall Story and Pocket Academy look like fun concepts.

Kairosoft is having some 3-4 base models for their games and then they release similar games on those models but with a different subject. They are all quality products mind you. I just think that some can be skipped.
Here are my favorites:

- Grand Prix Story (same base model as Game Dev and its mighty excellent. You are develloping a racing team and their tech/cars ---- its not a racing game!)

- MegaMall Story (unique game model, it's like Tiny Tower except that there is gameplay and it fucking fun.)

- Pocket League (devellop a soccer team --- its not a sports game!)

- Edo Town (made on their "sim city-ish" base model, its my favorite so far. You devellop a town and try to make people happy. Watch also for Venture Town if you want a similar game but in modern setting. Watch for Dungeon Village is you want a medieval twist on this)

- Epic Astro Story (seems like its another unique game like MegaMall, people seems to like it as its more advanced than their other citybuilder-like. I haven't played it yet but people here are cumming on it everyday.)

New Bug Princess 2 Black Label update resets certain leaderboards that were exploited and presumably fixes the bugs. The weird thing is the old leaderboards are still there, they just added duplicate new ones. They still haven't done anything about "finnlark" at the top of all the "All Stages" leaderboards with an impossible hacked score.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I can see myself getting burnt out on the formula eventually, but I can probably enjoy a few variations of it before then. I'll probably start with MegaMall or Astro Story.

I already have enough games to last me for ages but it's hard to stop buying when there are so many good games for just a few bucks or less. And here I thought impulse purchasing on Steam was addictive...

I saw your avatar and then I wondered...
Have you tried Puzzle Dungeons??

Oh for f~
I just bought the game last last weekend, god I hate these sudden pricedrops that seem to always happen right after I decide to get something...

It's a quality game and Playdek rarely does price drops, only once or twice at most when they announce/release an expansion. It's not Carcassonne (never drops), but it's not EA either.

Grand Prix Story is definitely worth checking out if you enjoyed GameDev Story. Similarly addictive.

Im surprised none is talking about Amazing Alex or Tiny Wings in this thread....Im loving TW on the ipad now...much better experience.

Also Amazing Alex seems pretty cool and clever although Im only up the second set of challenges and some are pretty hard. I missed out on Casey's Contraptions but I am enjoying Amazing Alex...I do realize that Rovio just bought out the other dev and basically redid their game...but it's still fun.

What kind do you want?

I'm going to hijack this question. I need a good dungeon crawler/rougelike on my iPhone. For a point of reference, I would love something like Dungeons of Dredmor. It's accessible, but there's tons of depth in character building and the massive amount of equipment and items available. I also like how a session can last anywhere from two minutes to several hours depending on how long you survive. Something like that would make a great mobile game.

Yeah, Amazing Alex seems like a legit good game so far. I even played some fun downloaded levels. It is no " Incredible Machine" (This game is super simple so far) but I may be using a fair share of nostalgia when I remember that game. Showed it to a coworker who was instantly floored by it.

Any good RPG games for iPhone?

There are some serious problems with Pocket Heroes. I started a new game and am up to level 2 and I chose to do a quest and it sent me back to the beginning of the game. Frustrating

The Jay & Silent Bob game, too fat to fly, is essentially Nanaka Crash with Kevin Smith. Pretty fun[ny].

The rhythm game is balls, though.

Metal Slug is MUCH better on the Ipad but I am having one big issue with the game. Sometimes it will not let me continue and it is really starting to get annoying. Anyone else having this issue?

just picked up pocket heroes, would love to play with fellow gaffers. feel free to add.

game center ID: hypoetical

Yeah the continue is very janky. I think you have to tap the screen and then hit 'A' after you pick your character with the analog stick.

shameless plug yet again, would like to people to add me up on Game Center for the Bug Princess 2 achievement, thanks!

Game Center - vallxtreme

Ya it works most of the time but then it just decides one time it wants to stop. I am sure it will get patched so I am not to worried about it.

Gameplay looks good. What kind of song selection and IAP can be expected?

The song selection is pretty much the same style as O2Jam U (and they share some music too), except you pay up-front for the game rather than having to recharge a virtual wallet. No IAPs whatsoever at the moment. I bought it at full price and definitely felt I got my money's worth.

Can anyone tell me what console games are on the iPod/iPad from the SNES/NES/Genesis era?

The only thing I've donwloaded in terms of games for the iPad are Sonic CD.

The one bad thing about having a thread for the iOS board-game community is that some games don't get enough love in the main thread, because realistically, everyone should be talking about Summoner Wars right now. :D

qft

My Cloaks handed an ass whoopin to the AI Tundra Orcs last night. There's just 1 problem though; the AI made a lot of really awful choices against me. Basically handed me the win :(

It's an okay game. Don't like the way it's presented, though, to be honest. Download the game, and they throw a big, fat stop sign at you in terms of online play. I get it...I just don't like it. The game itself, though -- like I said -- is okay. For the little they give you to try, it wasn't enough to encourage me to pay for the other decks.

I'd like to hear what you think is a good game in this genre then. Honestly I usually let opinions be opinions but yours is a pretty shit one, objectively.

I don't think anything I say at this point is going to be considered objectively by you. So, I'll leave my comment about the game at it stands. ;)

It's a pretty amazing game in terms of depth. Maybe you should have it a another go. Astrolad is right, this game is probably the one of the best multiplayer TBS games on IOS and deserves more love.

Summoner Wars is awesome. Best Playdek game by far, in my opinion.

I don't get it. Would you prefer to pay upfront just to realize later it's merely an "okay" game to you? How you do not like the option to try the game before buying the whole package is beyond me.
