The trailer for my next game just made it to Indiegames.com somehow, so I guess it's time to start pimping the game a bit here as well.

I've been talking about this game for a while in the indie development thread. The game is a pretty straight forward 2.5D megaman clone, set in the old west. I first started this project years ago (2008 I think) and my goal was to make something very traditional without any gameplay gimmicks and just focus on the craftmanship. Obviously I haven't worked on it full time since then though; after many years of hiatus I picked up the production a while after I released Helium Boy late last year.

The game is nearly done and will hopefully be out in about one month and will cost 1.99$. Obviously touch screen controls aren't ideal for this type of game but it works decently at least. I'll release a pc version as well so it can be experienced with buttons, and the android version will of course support xperia play.

Hky shit, looks great! Get it onto 3DS eshop for $5 and id be stoked!!

Just watched the trailer, love the look of it! If you're not super-keen with the touch controls, make sure you include iCade/iControlPad support! I don't have one (yet) but it looks like the sort of game that would benefit from native support.

What Kairosoft games do you guys like the best, anyway? Edo Towns I like and I've played Game Dev / Grand Prix as well (Game Dev was fun but didn't like Grand Prix much).

Mega Mall? Hot Springs? Pocket Academy? Ahhh! Pocket League seems like it would be more like Grand Prix so probably not that one.

Pocket League is addicting stuff.

Mega Mall is easily the most balanced out and enjoyable according to gaf. A good pace for trickling out new stuff and it moves at a good pace.

I didn't know Assassin's Creed: Recollection was coming out for iPhone.
Good news, I'm interested. I never played it but I assumed it wasn't on the iPhone for interface reasons, will it work ok on the smaller screen?

this looks pretty good. will probably buy.

Waking Mars is really smart. I love how the game is not only about level exploration, but also gameplay exploration. You have to explore with different actions to discover behaviors and new possibilities.

If you play your cards right, you can turn a huge, barren chamber into a self sustaining environment. It's incredibly satisfying to reach a point in the biomass development and then watch the environment grow by itself, without your interference.

And the game doesn't hold your hand. It let's you discover the gameplay possibilities by yourself. It's never frustrating because the game isn't overly complex, even though it's deep enough to hold your attention. It's incredibly elegant. In fact, I think "elegant" is the best word to describe Waking Mars.

Ah. I was just wondering when Incoboto would start getting hard. The gate that requires 45 sun pieces, that's where. Absolutely beautiful.

They're weird with their staggering of releases and timed exclusives for the two platforms.

There's a few on android that I'd love to play on the ipad instead.

This is why I'm glad I have an asus transformer and an iphone. Best of both worlds.

Only time I've regretted the combo is not having mass effect data pad on android/iphone

and

Watching videos on my iphone on the treadmill because the screen is too small.

Great read, thanks for posting them. I think it's really refreshing to see both a non-typical Asian protagonist and a black woman as the lead characters. Everything about the game is so fresh and also finely tuned for iOS.

I had my doubts on the $5 price tag (Spider was fun, but not amazing); I'm glad I jumped in, this would assuredly be $10 as an XBLA title.

Well you are missing all the iPad exclusives ;)

The RPG one, Dungeon Village, just came out (on Android today). Looking forward to that one the most at this point:

Build a heroic hamlet that warriors and merchants can call home!

Welcome to an epic RPG world in which the town you build can grow from humble hamlet into a mecca for the land's most ambitious adventurers!

The enterprising warriors that stop by your blossoming burg will defeat monsters and earn you money. Conquering dungeons and clearing out hordes of monsters will bag you loot to stock your shops. And if your hamlet flourishes, adventurers will want to set up house and settle down!

Build training facilities like Combat Schools and Magic Labs to hone your heroic denizens' skills and boost your village's Popularity. The more faces that flock to your cause, the bigger the baddies you can beat!

An all-new "Cauldron" feature also allows you to test your alchemic expertise. Toss items obtained from quests or shops into the Cauldron and your armory might receive a rare addition.

No dungeon is too deep! Make your village the crown estate of this bold RPG narrative!

Sounds good!

My order of awesome: (and it's not like there's a huge difference between each, they are all fucking great)

- Game Dev Story
- Grand Prix Story
- MegaMall Story

That matches my order as well. Game Dev is admittedly the weakest of that bunch, with the least to actually do, but it's setting hits so close to home that I probably had the most fun with it.

I haven't been able to play since the night I bought the game :( damn you work! Good to know it gets harder, I had to stop playing around like 35 stars.

Sounds good![/QUOTE]

Fuck Kairosoft, I'm still waiting for Astro Story iOS :(

Ok. Kingdom Rush has become my favorite game on iOS. Incredible fun, and gets very challenging too.

Need more games that are good as this.

Original Bard's Tale now playable in the PS2 iOS port! :) Parts 2 & 3 are supposed to each follow approx. 1 month later.

Now to figure out if there's a way to use iExplorer to remove the GBs of data related to the PS2 version, while still being able to boot in to the title screen to play the original lol.

Thanks for the Kairo suggestions. I can also just try the lite versions, haha.

I thought people enjoyed Pocket League more than Grand Prix.

I finally beat Dead Space yesterday. Game was great overall. My only two complaints would be the bull crap last boss, and the control scheme. Perhaps it would work better with a larger screened iPad, but playing the game on my touch with that control scheme I felt my fingers were obtruding the action way too much. I wish it had two virtual analog sticks or something similar to RE4. Had a lot of fun with it regardless.

Started Pocket Academy and boy am I lost. I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing and none of it is making sense.

So I found a lemon tree in someone else's town in the Simpsons game. I now have a mission that requires me to place it. Problem is, I can't see it anywhere, it's not in the building options, and I have no idea how complete the mission. Anyone come across this?

I keep reinstalling DS to my iPad, get frustrated by the controls, and delete it when I need space. This cycle has happened about 3 times already.

Wait... the ORIGINAL original? So was/is that emulated on the PS2/Xbox versions and it's emulated inside the PS2 port on iOS?

Dropzap 2. It's not as immediate as drop7, but if you like D7 you should like this.

There's a decent tutorial, but basically you drop a piece and it emits lasers that reduce the sizes of the pieces around it, and bounce off of those diagonal lines, etc.

You could also try Triple Town. It's kind of totally broken as a game, but at the same time it does scratch that itch.

For games that aren't so similar but that should go well with podcasts, try ORBITAL and Dungeon Raid.

Thanks for the recommendations tried all of them. Dropzap was a bit too random but triple town hooked me instantly it's so addicting. The only problem is that it's a resource hog and eats my battery like crazy.

Have you tried DropSum? A bit more complicated than Drop7 but similar :)

Going to try it now. Even the visual change makes it seem like a new game.

I can't even get into the game :-( I keep getting the server busy problem.

That is unfortunate. I've had a few problems, but a restart normally sorts it. I found access to an "inventory" that contained the lemon tree, so I've planted it successfully now. Couldn't tell you where that option is now though. : /

Picked up Waking Mars and it is sooooooooooooooooo cool. Surprised there isn't more talk about it here. Love love love the exploration. Love how the environment crumbles around you, too.

Just started playing Dungeon Village and...wow. Between this and Epic Astro Story, Kairosoft really is on a new level. I wish they'd hurry up and port them to iOS or at least explain how their staggered release schedule works.

Ok, I'm kinda stuck in Waking Mars, 6 hours in.

I've researched everything and 5 star every area, except the one on the bottom that are too dry to raise the biomass. Where can I find more clues about the sentient life and the reason the bottom areas are so dry? These are my current objectives right now.
