£64.99 for 2400 doughnuts!!!!

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!

Disgusting EA.

That's not just EA. most freemium games have that option. Option.

^Same. I'm enjoying it so far and the dialogue is pretty good if you enjoy the show.

Origin is the only complaint I have. Do whatever you want on PC, but get that shit out of the mobile space. Another friends list? No thanks. :/ add me on Origin: Flunkie4

I was going to give it a go, but ditched it as soon as it was clear it was Origin only.

I'll just wait for Nimblebit to make something else, I swear they're the only ones that get it right.

Add me man. IAmChopper.

Added both of you. I'm either NorrenRadd or nlyonssmith, don't remember.

I'm not thrilled with the Origin requirement either, but I'll live with it.

Trying out the Simpsons game... not a fan of these types of games, but I am am a big Simpsons fan.

Added a few people from this thread too.

I'm liking the dialogue a lot. And the fact that they make fun of other freemium games quite a bit adds to the comedic appeal - albeit making those same design choices themselves.

Please don't do this.

1 calling him a Junior in a derogatory way and 2 using post history against people. Trust me you won't like it when people use your post history against you. Just ignore him if he bothers you.

Though i used it in the interest of my time, I didnt necesarrily need to use the post history...the not-so-subtle trolling that derailed both threads for a good page 2-3 pages was more than enough for me to notice. And that wasnt as derogatory, as much as it was a caution because ive been banned for lesser things.

But I digress. Lets get back to the app games!

Didn't really care for that Simpsons game last week, but on a related note, I did just finally get Edo Towns.

Anything new in the iPad version of Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions? Is it the same as the PSP version just with a touch-interface overhaul? Are the "speed issues" found in the PSP version's magic effects changed?

okay big shot

What's the word on FFTactics controls?
If people like you prevent people like me from buying high quality iOS games, I'll not be happy.

If £2.99 is too much for a video game, find a new hobby. 'App games will always be app games' is an idiotic sentiment.
You're off to a great start, Junior.

Trolling the Vita thread and now the iOS thread...

Wow, people really need to chill the fuck down. I was just voicing my opinion. Don't go all rage on me now.

Waking Mars is pretty great (for an app game of course). Very atmospheric and fun. Story is intriguing too. Great controls (though it takes some getting used to), which I expected from the devs of the Spider game.

Played for about 2 hours and it shows 33% done.

I love it, imho it's one of the best TD games around. I've put a disgustingly huge amount of time into it over the past week or so.

I watched a few videos, and just don't get the love for this game at all. From reviews I read it obscures elements (doesn't explain str/rng/spd of units/upgrades), lacks upcoming wave indicators, and other basic elements to TD games, and a dozen or more of the 5 star reviews on the lite version are all scammed by the developer (lol).

I just can't figure out what draw it could possibly have to a well-versed fan of the genre. It doesn't look like it does anything different either (presents the most standard look there is for TD); there's a ton of other more detailed TD that are either much better at delivering your standard basic elements like iBomber Defense or Sentinel, or putting a spin on the genre like Defender Chronicles (RPG & multi-level horizonal scrolling), PvZ / Samurai Bloodshow (lanes), Guns n Glory (power up / more action-y), Anomaly Warzone Earth (offense), geoDefense (just looks way different and challenging), The Creeps!, and so on.

Trying to visit IamChopper's Springfield - it says he has a newer version than me, and I need to get a "spiffy new update" to visit his Springfield. Wat?

watched some utube videos last night.
it was very charming, but not sure how deep the gameplay is

So far I encountered several different puzzles. I got some gloves to throw stones or specific coloured balls to destroy, hit or activate targets, glass shells. There are puzzles with electricity where you have to activate stuff to trigger gravity beams. Then there are energy fields, which you use as platforms to reach certain items (you must time the activations if there a more than one field.
Then you need to search areas to find hidden buttons or items and I recently got the lense which you use to focus sunbeams to activate special triggers.

And a lot of combinations of those and even more are in the game, but not to the level that it is unfair.

I haven't played any iOS roguelikes yet. Are those two good?

Fargoal is good. It's a somewhat simple roguelike but that simplicity means it avoids a lot of the standard input pitfalls that so many iOS games have. 100 Rogues was sorta fun, but it has a food mechanism (unless it's been updated away or tuned way down) that IMO really sapped a lot of the fun away when you're basically dead due to the random level generator not making it possible for you to stop a countdown clock. I got to the final boss once and it was pure luck that the game kept tossing food at me.

Just trying out uniwar.

Anybody know of any good hex based strategy games? Ideally I would want something like battle isle 3 or panzer general

Neuroshima Hex comes to mind, it's pretty great. Not sure if it qualifies for "strategy" though, but I'd definitely say so.

100 Rogues is pretty basic, but a lot of fun.

Thanks, I'll try 100 Rogues.

Rogue Touch is my favourite, has all the staple stuff (it's a port of the Atari ST version) and the dev is working on a big update for it that will add things like a paper doll etc...

10-12 hours? Wow.

I wasn't a big fan of Spider. Much prefer Waking Mars.

When I first saw videos I felt the animation was kinda off but now that I've played it I like how it looks. The 3D character is still slightly odd (3D on the iPhone is usually awful) but it definitely doesn't detract from the game. The main thing I don't like is how the environment is much sharper than the character.

It's worth the price tag though. Considering how it's fairly long.

Thanks for pushing me.
My first 2 hours with Waking Mars were nothing short of amazing, and destroyed every doubts I had (graphic are awesome, animations included).
If I have to express something I'm not that convinced is the girl expressions (too smiley for me).

Sword&Sworcery in space, I'm in heaven.

Glad you like it!

Haha yea she's a bit animated. I don't trust her.

Haha. Yeah, I noticed too. Kinda creepy.

I don't think going with real portraits was the best decision. But it's no biggie.

Any recommendations for games similar to drop 7? It's the only game I've been playing for the past year despite trying tens and tens of different games.

I play drop 7 while listening to podcasts and its simplicity and turn based gameplay allows me to fully concentrate to a podcast while playing. It is
perfect for this purpose but after hundreds of hours I need something new.

Games I've already considered:
Bejeweled - too hectic
Cut the rope - requires reflexes, limited content
Quell - no replay value
Shibuya - too fast, requires too much concentration
Solitaire - a perfect example except I previously owned 2nd gen nano and played like 1000 hours of solitare on it.

Honestly the best option would be a drop 7 clone/variable with some tweaks and changes.

Dropzap 2. It's not as immediate as drop7, but if you like D7 you should like this.

There's a decent tutorial, but basically you drop a piece and it emits lasers that reduce the sizes of the pieces around it, and bounce off of those diagonal lines, etc.

You could also try Triple Town. It's kind of totally broken as a game, but at the same time it does scratch that itch.

For games that aren't so similar but that should go well with podcasts, try ORBITAL and Dungeon Raid.

Just finished Waking Mars, clocked in at 5h 27 min, 87.8% complete. Missing one achievement (diet of the Prax Zoa, any tips?). I think I got the good ending.

Loved every minute of it! The atmosphere was top notch, the music, everything just great, even the real-life esque portraits gave it this quirky sorta vibe which I think fit.

Sworcery in space indeed, highly recommended.

In other news, Awesome Land was just updated with Game Center support and Scoring/Leaderboards.

Can't get passed it either

First thing it does is download 50mb worth of updates.

In an earlier post, I was unhappy about logging in with Origin. Turns out it uses Origin to allow you to have a persistent game between iPad and iPhone. That's cool.

I think developers can also do that with iCloud though?

I just got started on Simpsons: Tapped Out. It's the only game in this style that I've played, mostly due to my affection for the license. But pretty much just out of the tutorial, any time I try to do anything, even if I have enough money, it tells me "Maybe you should visit the Other Springfield first." I've been there 5+ times and collected everything I can for the day, so do I have to wait a full 24 hours to progress?

For example, I have a quest with Lisa to place a bench. The bench costs 270 and I have 1265. When I try to place the bench it says I should visit the Other Springfield. Same thing if I try to place a kiddie pool, which I should also be able to afford.

EDIT: Nevermind, my save somehow got deleted so I guess that's that.
