The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |Thread4| NOT Doomed

Girlfriend is into Epic Astro Story which means Kairosoft's crack is still strong. Can't give a much better endorsement than that. :)

Playing the Cave shooters on the iPad is pretty wonderful.

Not on sale or anything, but I grabbed Street Fighter 4: Volt last night. If anyone plays, let me know. Definitely a fantastic fighter!

Also, I found a few other decent RTS games, but Starfront Collision is still the best. REALLY great multiplayer in that one.

Purchased. At that price the game is great value. Very addictive retro looking cross between super crate box and er....mario bros maybe? Anyhow, it's great fun, deserves to do well and hopefully we will see some new arenas added at some point.

Thanks, I'm finishing up the Android version now, but after that I know I'm going to add at least one more arena. I'm thinking lightning dome, not sure though.

What is the difference between SF4 Volt and the previous standard SF4 on iOS? I own vanilla but feels really cramped on the iPhone and badly in need of a retina update.

Also I hope with the rumour of an official Apple controller, the 8-bitty coming later this year, and the already released iCade...that we will see full featured fighters on iOS.

Besides a larger cast of characters, Volt offers online play. That alone is worth the $7 asking price. :)

8-Bit Ninja has piqued my interest. Anyone playing that?

Yeah. I really like it. It's one of those simple pick-up-and-play-just-one-more-try-type games, but it's really fun. Lots of stuff to work toward and unlock, and thus far no need for IAP, though it's one of those you can easily see yourself wanting to throw a little money at. I'm very happy with the whole little package.

I will download and have a look!

Up to about year 8 of EAS. The progression is great but a little slow.. and the processing plant never seems to work. Any suggestions on that? I placed one right next to a field but they still aren't turning the food into fancy food so I dunno what's up.

I have Volt. I don't think it's that great. I play it on a touch though. And I love me some SF, heh.

Grand Prix had me hooked for a while. More so than that? I know it's only a holdover till Star Command for me, but I'm still interested.

Epic Astro Story is much more full-fledged than many of their other games in that its focus isn't necessarily limited to one thing. It's more of a true management sim in the vein of Civilization.

I have a 3rd generation iPod Touch and the touch screen has stopped working. This morning it was fine but at a certain point today the touch screen just stopped responding in any way. I am not able to get it out of sleep more nor am I able to power it down.

Any thoughts? Historically I haven't been a big Apple person so I've never had to deal with a technical problem like this.

I would love to hear any 1) trouble shooting advice and/or 2) advice on potentially getting the device repaired.

Have you tried to hard-reset it? Hold Home and Power switch for 15(?) seconds. That's the only thing *I* can think of to try.

I know its probably obvious - but have you powered off the device for a few minutes? Otherwise how long have you had it - if it's out of warranty and you're feeling up to it you could always try following instructions on iFixit.com (or similar site) to try to open it yourself and see if its simply a loose connector.

Otherwise I'd take it to an Apple Store and have a Genius Bar person take a quick look (they do that part for free) and they should be able to give you a ballpark of how much the fix would cost.

I'm having more fun with it than any other Kairosoft game. The city management + the loot/rpg side of it is pretty damn fun.

Some Teltale sales :

Puzzle Agent 1 and 2 are both on sale for a buck

Hector Ep 1 and Monkey Island Ep 1 are FREE

Rest of Monkey Island and Hector Eps are 3 bucks each

Awesome! The hard reset did the job. Thanks guys. I had thought of that, but I couldn't figure out how to get the device to reset without using the touch screen

One weird note:

When I press the power button and the home button at the same time it makes a sound as if a picture is being taken by a digital camera and the screen sort of flashes, yet my 3rd gen iPod Touch does not have a camera. Am I taking a screen capture or something?

Edit: Yeah, just checked my photo section. I had never known about that feature.

Awesome, been meaning to play Puzzle Agent 2.

I've been reading about some stuttering issues in the reviews for Monkey Island. I wonder if the new iPad takes care of this with the extra horse power.

Bought both Puzzle Agent 1 & 2. TellTale games have really shitty optimization and Puzzle Agent is no different, I really dont understand how they can make a game look so shitty and have it run so poorly.

Im not even gonna touch their other games, I just wanted a game in the vein of Professor Layton for now.

5AD is glorious once you get the hang of it. Not as good as Gridrunner or Minotaur Rescue but then again IMO Gridrunner is GOTY and pretty much untouchable.

Help guys. What's the name of the iPhone game that's an adaptation of an older PC game, I guess it's some kind of RPG but you're in control of a town or something, and there's a funny screenshot of dinosaurs and peasants together? Can't remember the name, thanks.

Yes, thanks!

I guess there's still no word on an iPad update/version huh? This is what is says on their FAQ but it's hard to tell if its old or not:

In a perfect world, we could do King of Dragon Pass for iPad. Unfortunately, the original artwork was scanned at 640 × 480 pixels, which is way too small for the 768 × 1024 pixel iPad screen. The app runs fine, but sadly we can’t create a game with full screen art.
However, we have started a Universal build, that will take advantage of the screen size on either iPad or iPhone.

Last I read it was being worked on. Not sure of the status.

They updated their blog a couple of weeks ago with this:

And this isn’t news at all: we don’t have anything to report on the Universal version of King of Dragon Pass. At least on the new iPad, the text looks wonderful even when you magnify the iPhone screen to 2x (this wasn’t the case with the previous iPads). We still intend to release a Universal build when the art’s ready.

EVERYONE GET HECTOR. Seriously, the series is fucking BRILLIANT. I guarantee that if you play through Episode 1 for free, you'll buy the next two.

(this could be a bad thing..)
