Unlocked the start-at-wave-101 in Ballistic and loving it more and more. So polished, so refined, so no-bullshit, it's like a perfected and very mature kinda twin stick shooter. The Quake 3 Arena of iOS twin-stick shooters, if you will.

Saw this over on TA - Conquest! Medieval Relams the latest Slitherine release.
Looks like a fairly streamlined TBS.

Hi guys,

just got approval from apple for this one and preparing the final marketing assets and uploading the final Android version for release next week. Looking forward to getting another game in to the store after Battle Academy's success! This is a much smaller game - with a special launch price of $1.99 up to $2.99 after 2 weeks.

Its a universal binary but we don't have a category for that in our site yet so we have a separate page and screens for each platform!

Conquest!, developed by Illustrious Software and the Lordz Games Studio, is a turn-based game where the objective is to conquer up to 5 opposing players by defeating their armies and capturing their lands - to do this you will need to unite all of your lands, build up a powerful economy, and raise armies to defend the homeland and to take lands from your enemies. The game is set in medieval times and has a number of game modes available.

Conquest ! Medieval Realms, will be packed with hours and hours of clever fun-packed, brain-bending strategy gaming.

Features
  • Conquest! is a simple game to learn, but you will need strategy, tactics and cunning if you expect to defeat all of your enemies and rule the world.
  •  Try your skill against 5 levels of AI in the conquest or skirmish modes.
  •  Randomly generated maps give you billions of potential battlefields to fight on.
  •  9 different units in 3 different classes and 7 different buildings in 3 classes

Much like the recent European War 3: Commander title, you'd want to hope there's some sort of asych multiplayer in the pipeline. This looks great, but crying out for some sort of online-enabled multiplayer.

Are there any other multiplayer games like draw something or words with friends?
My friend and I have played close to 400 rounds of drawsome and were getting pretty bored with it and are looking for something new.

well this is part of gaming gaf until it gets communitied ;)

In the future, this will be the NeoGAF community.

Don't look like it, at a glance seems PC has mp and every other platform is sp ... and at $3 I doubt they plan on expanding much on it.

But ya never know.

I don't think it would make sense for ios GAF to be communitied. The flood of ios game threads for every release would drive the rest of gaming GAF nuts.

I think this is exactly the reason why the iOS thread earned a pass I guess, the releases (and news/updates!) move too fast and it makes sense to follow mostly just one thread but still give iOS enough visibility to non-regulars and recognition in the gaming section, with (for example) specific threads like the iOS board games MT moved to community. On top of that, one of the main reasons for being in community is to avoid just a few die-hards to bring a game |OT| or whatever up on the first page constantly, while in here there's constantly new blood coming in.

It would be like making a Nintendo or Playstation thread, to talk each and every game instead of having proper game |OT|s, while also putting it in community instead of the gaming forum, it wouldn't make sense.

Anyway, let's not wake up the sleeping dog, as we say where I live :P

Why does GAF hate TA again?
Because GAF needs to believe in lackluster Kickstarter projects.

Seriously, this whole thing is dumb. I don't care one way or the other about TA, but I don't think this guy deserves the flak he's getting from stating his opinion about some Kickstarter developer.

Quite frankly, Republique looks mediocre, and asking for half a million dollars to be the "first developer to release a 'real game' for ios" is absurd and pretentious. This Kickstarter fundraising model for games is going to break really fast.

Oh yeah .... I vaguely recall seeing some references to that.

There's already too much shit (literally and figuratively) on iOS to keep up with already released and being developed for me to be too concerned with a forum Admin's opinion about KickStarter.

That's about as relevant to my usage of the site as who his favorite Ninja Turtle is.

But I can see how it may be an important issue for some.

I still find it really weird ios games are rated out of 5 stars.

Games like are a fucking dollar or 2. Give me a thumbs up or down!

It comes in handy when there are like 5 clones or similar games. They may all be thumbs up, but which one is the best of the bunch?

Gaming gaf hates everything. They hate iOS, wii, kinect, and everything that is not hardcore.

Pretty much games in general. The evolution is fun though. You now have die hard nintendo fans worried that ios is dumbing down the industry. Halo fans concerned COD will ruin their hardcore shooter.

Circle of life.

Probably late, but just been playing the card game Ascension (sale at 0.99 http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ascension-chronicle-godslayer/id441838733?mt=8) and I'm really getting into it. Quite well put together and plays great on the ipad.

We need a 'casual' gaming forum to escape that shit :p

Anyone have an opinion on Waking Mars? I love Randy Smith's columns in Edge and I'd like to reward him of it's any good.

It's funny though as although I despise wii and Kinect, my heart belongs to iOS gaming, as it's the lion's share of my gaming in the last year.

I love all sort of gimmick gaming. :) DDR, guitar hero, wii, car games with steering wheel, airplane games with 360 deegree cockpit :o. If done well, those things increases the immersion ten fold.

It's very good. A really engrossing game, with cool concepts and slick presentation.

I too hate where mainstream gaming is going in terms of Wii, Kinnect, Paid DLC, plastic peripherals etc...

But I don't see iOS in that bracket at all, iOS gaming reminds me of the days of the Amiga. You could get a disc for about £3 with 100 freeware games on, 90% would be a bit crap but the 10% that weren't were real gems. Lots of releases, lots of new ideas due to cheaper development costs and a ton of charm.

The only issue with iOS gaming is the constant refusal of developers to accept the limitations of the system, and the constant refusal of gamers to admit that some things just don't work.

Games that are designed for iOS to be iOS games are regularly amazing.

Thanks man! All his ideas about game design are more or less the same as mine so it makes sense that I'll like it, but thanks for the confirmation.

But it has a touchscreen! And a gyroscope! Filthy filthy casual scum...

(Nice avatar by the way)

I can agree on that, I still marvel at how many people clamour for more FPS games on iOS.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. Games designed purely for iOS in mind is amazing. Well, it sort of applies for everything. Wii, kinect and all those stuff.

Sometimes I feel like we're the only ones who know that the world is round.

That's heresy!

What are we, Colorado? Are we going to abdicate from the rest of GAF? :P

Amen. Run Roo Run is, to me, a prime example of really making the most out of so little. You're pretty much just tapping, but like a good WarioWare game, it can be so much fun.

When I first joined GAF in 2004, they hated PC gaming, too. You would read all the same, lame memes and ideas that they mock now.

Give it a couple years, they will come around.

Apparently there's a Tribez HD update out

Looks like they added:
A fourth island (I'm not even at #3 yet!)
Achievements
An inventory to hold items and buildings (but to hold buildings you need to spend crystals)
A few new buildings (Expensive House and Athlete's Arena are bought with crystals, you can spend crystals to buy more berry bushes now too, and there's a Candy Shop)
New decorations

For whatever reason, sometimes Tribez will continue playing music and sound effects even after putting the iPad to sleep or pushing the Home button, so hopefully they fixed that.

I'm kinda bummed that so much of what they added needs crystals, but I guess it's not entirely surprising considering how few premium items were in the game to begin with.

Universal update for Junk Jack too, whee!
