Hard to say, the indie game audience isn't exactly the sort to tolerate this nonsense.
Maybe, but exposure is exposure.

it'll probably collapse the production and cause the game to never happenI wonder if this ends up getting them more sales or less sales.
Has dude still not responded about this?
I dont know about that. Like Mel Gibson is a racist asshole, but I still enjoy Hacksaw Ridge, Braveheart, and Apocalypto. In a pure abstract world, yes, not necessarily.
But from real world experience and from experience within this very thread, if someone goes "I don't mind the views of the creator", you can reliably assume that it's a coded euphemism for "I agree with the views of the creator".
Not necessarily. Reading Mein Kampf doesn't mean you're an anti-Semite. Watching The Birth of a Nation doesn't make you a white supremacist. You can engage with an idea without believing it.
Do I think the writer has the chops to pull off this "feminist dystopia"? Probably not. Do I at least think it's an interesting subversion of cyberpunk tropes worth having a closer look into? Certainly. Will I allow whatever ideological views are presented in the game to alter my own? Highly unlikely.
Reading all the "Looks great but I won't play it because of the author's Tweets" posts I feel like there's some kind of fear that this game is some kind of contagion, like it's somehow going to degrade your beliefs if you're exposed to it. That's not true. It is entirely possible to consume and even enjoy someone's work of art while being fully aware of its problematic ideology and presentation of themes/characters/storylines. MGSV was my GotY, yet is shamelessly backward in its portrayal of women. Hero by Zhang Yimou is a cinematic masterpiece, but can also be interpreted as Chinese unification propaganda. And I enjoy the Call of Duty games despite their absurd jingoism and extremely problematic portrayal of foreign cultures.
I'll keep my eye out for this game, and if the gameplay looks as interesting as the visuals, I'll probably buy it and play it. And if the story is anything like those three-year-old tweets, I'll experience Tim Soret's "Gamergate nightmare scenario" knowing that I won't become a worse person for doing so.
Look at my last post ... he said he changed.
But saying that you changed WAY easier than actually changing
He said the game no longer has anything to do with the original ideas he had and that he has done a lot of growing since those tweets. That's basically it.Has dude still not responded about this?

The dude tweeted that he changed since the gamergate tweets

I will give him the benefit of the doubt .... but I will need more than 3 tweets to be sure that he REALLY changed

This should be in the OP as an update along with Raw Fury's statement:

Yeah, we'll see in the final game how the themes play out. The game is still on my radar. The only games I couldn't touch were Hatred and I wasn't wrong on missing out on that. We'll see if this improves or not.
He says he changed in the last years completely disregarding that he made posts about the gender spectrum being identity politics two months ago
The thing is, if you genuinely do separate the creator and the creation, you're probably the type of person to type up a post like you just did and acknowledge that it's a questionable thing. That's the reasonable reaction.I dont know about that. Like Mel Gibson is a racist asshole, but I still enjoy Hacksaw Ridge, Braveheart, and Apocalypto.
The thing here isn't just that the views of the creator are fucked up, it's that those views form the foundation of the story, the world, etc. You can't separate the art from the artist here because the artist is the art, down to "feminism ruined society" is/was the backstory of the world and wanting to put "Vivian James" in as a character
And in such a narrative driven genre as this, that's a death blow for interest
He's still posting ignorant shit this year, so really, I don't know what they're trying to protect by blatantly lying and saying "oh he changed years ago!"
They are trying to protect their money.

all opinions matter.
It's a useful initial defense against people who decide not to support the game.Which is sad because it only takes 2 minutes to see the ignorant stuff he posted as little as a few months ago.
Jeez. Last time I remember something like this was in Call of Duty WWII thread.
People think different. Also I thought all opinions matter. If someone wants to tell the story, it's your right to not listen to it.
Stop screaming DON'T SUPPORT THIS ASSHOLE just because you personally do not agree with him.
Also as someone told before - game's not out. Maybe the story changed, and if not, then let the guy tell his tale.
Best game of Microsoft's presser for me. Double dipping when it's out on PS4.

That's quite a turn of phrase there.

The artist is the art here so you were correct the first time. And I thought the Thread has so many pages because of the game. -.-

Here is where I am. If the game comes out on Xbox and the word is that it is as good as it looks and the story/theme doesn't have any obvious overtones, then I will probably get it if comes to another platform. I don't really give two shits about someone's personal opinion if it has nothing to do with his product. EDIT: Within reason anyway
If the word comes down that story/theme does indeed have something obnoxious to say about feminism or whatever, then I'm out. I have no interest in playing a GG parable.
Buying into a hate movement literally dedicated towards harassing, intimidating, doxxing and threatening the same women in the industry that Microsoft Game Studios and Bioware regularly champion, who this dev shared a stage with, is not "being naive" or "just an opinion."
Get outta here Raw Fury.
