The Last of Us - Review Thread [Emargo up, scores in OP.]

I'm trying to read through the Polygon review and have found these bits:

AI partners often attempt to follow you and stay behind cover nearby, but sometimes they screw up and get stuck out in the open. These moments don't result in detection by enemy AI, which is a wise concession to the stealth gameplay. But it looks ridiculous and shatters the atmosphere Naughty Dog works so hard to build.
This is true. It really takes you out of the immersion but it can be argued, that it's the best compromise Naughty Dog could do. It would be very frustrating if my NPC partners were the reason of my failures.

fights against waves of enemies or arenas full of waist-high cover where your only recourse is to kill everyone in your way. These sequences sit at odds with the rest of the game.
True as well and reminded me of Uncharted. A bit tiresome but so far there's not a LOT of those kind of encounters, you have to expect some forced situations and the brutal fights and how punches connects makes it more satisfying.

Joel can't take much damage from enemies, which isn't such a big deal when you're sneaking past them without incident. But at increasingly frequent points in the narrative, I had to buckle down and deal with the messy gunplay and repeated checkpoint restarts.

Did I mention that Joel isn't terribly good with guns? Naughty Dog has given Joel's aim a semi-realistic shakiness which, when mixed with the erratic movement of the infected, makes keeping enemies at bay a serious — and not terribly entertaining — challenge. Eventual upgrades allow Joel to hold his aim slightly better, but the annoyance never disappeared.
Yes, you will die a lot but in my experience, the checkpoints have been GREAT and the gunplay is not messy at all. It's a bit hard to target enemies that's correct but my first upgrade to his targeting have made his aim a little bit more steady, i like it, so that I don't feel like a superman. :)

Combat against the zombie-esque infected is especially frustrating. Not only are they faster, more aggressive and more unpredictable than human enemies, but multiple types of infected have an instant, one-hit kill if they get in melee range.
This is why I love the fungus enemies. It's so intense, terrifying and horrific.

Are there any sales going on?
Two nights ago, Fry's had a deal where you could buy The Last of Us at full price and receive a $15 gift card.

I don't know if that's still going on, though.

Nice scores. Maybe its better than the Uncharted games I didnt care much for.

Infinite is one of the worst games I've played this generation, which is why I can not stand this 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 9.5 10 10 culture

Posters like FACE, GlamFM etc have been pushing for and promoting meltdowns for days now. It's no surprise they're the one's quoting the rare freak outs the most. These guys are just as bad as the freak outs themselves.

Can't wait for the first 8/10.

Waits for the inevitable shitstorm over a 'nonsensical' review. Maybe even an 'outrageous' one too. ;)

The 10/10 are obvious and boring.
Can't wait for the first 5/10 - 8/10

Curious to see which publication will give this a score that isn't considered good enough, getting a bunch of people really angry.

Tears will fall as many will try and break down a review that give TLoU between a 6-8 attempting to prove how silly their points are...

Can't wait for the first 8/10 review so people start to flip their shit. Don't disappoint me, Uncharted fanbase.

Watching this thread and hoping for fanboy meltdowns.

Dont let me down SonyGAF!

I'm getting that Uncharted 3 feeling in here. The tears will be glorious, the self-satisfaction intolerable.

I love how the mere thought of a negative review can drive people into a frenzy.

Cringeworthy comment right there. Thread is gearing up to become just as embarrassing as the UC3 thread.

I actually want this game to get a bad review just to see the reactions, this thread certainly has potential to top the UC3 one.

But yea, the above is as antagonistic and petty as the reactions to the lower scores themselves. Lets just keep it cool.

I know in my heart this game will be amazing for me. I've purposely been on media blackout too so I go in as a fresh, clean experience. While I'm saddened by Polygon reviewing it so low compared to the other outlets, it makes me wonder if there really is a disparity between his experience and countless other journalists. My ultimate hope was that TLOU would top GTA IV as the highest rated game of all time. Either way, I'm still going to enjoy the FUCK out of this game!!!

Edit: Also this is the only time I'll post in here/read this thread because I've seen some spoilerish posts in here, whether they're from reviews or not, really uncool guys.

The Citizen Kane of gaming would be the most over budgeted, boring piece of pretentious trash ever. Always no one would play it but constantly quote it. DURR!! ROSEBUD!
I suppose that shows how much you know about filmmaking.

The techniques Welles used in Citizen Kane were pioneering. His direction, the cinematography, and use of light and shadow had never been done before.

This took more time than I thought it would, I kinda regret it.

Disclaimer: As of the time of writing these posters had not played the game
and datdude might have been trolling.

Hahahaha, thank you for this. I wonder how many of them are the same as the UC3 thread.

One, it would still have to pass OoT and Galaxy 1.

Two, who cares?

Sessler's video review is excellent, that'll do for me.

ND are a truly exceptional team, and given that this seems to be more of passion project for them than another Uncharted entry, my expectations are high.

Ice cold.

Gonna be hilarious when all the people who are ragging on Polygon right now come back and talk about how overrated this game is.

Time to break out the age-old proverb:
One must play a game before shitting on other people's opinions about it.

Those are insane reviews god damn, truly the re4 of the generation. From crash bandicoot to this, respect.

no no no no no no

Lets play it before we say things like "RE4 of the generation." A 10/10 is one thing, but saying "RE4 of the gen" actually means something.

lol at Polygon. The same site that consistently backtracks on their review scores. They lost all credibility from me since that Sim City fiasco.

I half expected Edge to give TLOU a score such as 7 or 8, not a Edge.

Regardless of the reviews, this game is and has always been a day one.
