It's at 42 reviews now.

Going from experience, the most at this point (unless some drastic low score appears) is +2/-2

So between 97-93 will be it's average at the end (probably like UC-100+ reviews)?

Betting either between 96 and 94 personally.

Don't hear much about the gameplay, AI, etc. You sneak around and beat peoples brains in while a girl with an anxious face follows you is all I can tell.

Why are all these reviews so caught up on how "emotional" it is? It has cool cut scenes I guess.

I like how ND are shattering barriers and advancing the medium by adding one-hit kills to videogames.

Not to mention the ability to AIM AND SHOOT at the same time is simply breath taking.

Thank you Naughty Gods :3

Naughty Dog right now.

One of....I can easily see this making a ton of people's top 5 greatest games of all time lists.

I know it’s been said a hundred times already, but this really seems like the RE4 of this gen.

Oh Tricky, never change.

dat Tomb Raider hype.

Good times.

And this is like the 3rd(?) time you are calling me out. Why?

Because you guys are doing exactly what we said you'd be doing right near the beginning of this thread. Too predictable.

Anyway, any more top picks for reviews to read? Don't want to read 42 of them lol, but I'll happily read the best of them!

People wonder why Polygon's review matters...it matters because they're still considered a viable "opinion" by outsiders. Analysts & stock holders will see that and say, "Naughty Dog didn't completely hit this one out of the park". Also, with Polygon's shitty review system here are just a few games that had a better score than Last of Us.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Remember Me
Night of the Rabbit
Metro: Last Light
SimCity (2013) - original review
Gears of War Judgement
Dead Space 3
Black Ops 2
WWE '13

Some of those games are good, some bad, but I guarantee that none of them are as good as The Last of Us.

In conclusion, to Polygon:

You played the game?

More important than reviews, how well has Sony been marketing this game? It always amazes me how awful Sony has been the last two years with marketing, which has made me worried for the sales of Last of Us.

How many hours did the game take you?

Destructoid pointed out something that worries me here. They say when it finished they were perfectly content and didn't want any more. Like it was perfect as a one-off game

But this is the games industry. Sadly I see there being a last of us 3 around 5 years from now when it seems like it lends itself so well to not being a typical game franchise and instead just a good singular project

Loved the Polygon review for the useful information. The mention of all too frequent and annoying gun battles has convinced me not to get it. I loved Uncharted 2 and hated Uncharted 3 precisely because of the over abundance of annoying gun battles and monster closets, and it sounds like Last of US is exactly that but in a post apocalyptic world. Uncharted 3 was a chore for me to play, and I hated it from 20% in and on.

More notable problems with The Last of Us manifest as it leans more on the traditional trappings of third-person shooters — fights against waves of enemies or arenas full of waist-high cover where your only recourse is to kill everyone in your way. These sequences sit at odds with the rest of the game. Joel can't take much damage from enemies, which isn't such a big deal when you're sneaking past them without incident. But at increasingly frequent points in the narrative, I had to buckle down and deal with the messy gunplay and repeated checkpoint restarts.

This is why I'll pass.

Is it possible that the Polygon 7.5/10, which is so out of line with the rest of the reviews, is influenced by all the money Polygon receives from Microsoft?

You're many pages too late with this comment. Probably true, but also a worn out statement.

You can pretty much break down any game in that way.

Posters like FACE, GlamFM etc have been pushing for and promoting meltdowns for days now. It's no surprise they're the one's quoting the rare freak outs the most. These guys are just as bad as the freak outs themselves.

From page 20...

Rare freak outs?

This is the second or third time I've seen people go stupid over lower scores of Naughty Dog games.

My gawd those 10's...

Is this the best rated game this gen ?

I seriously can't wait to play this. The reviews make me wanna teleport to next week and play this bad boy now !!!!!!!!

We're not shareholders or analysts. Pick another review then. Make your own metametascore with only the sites you find reputable.

I love how I'm still included in this wall of shame. I guarantee my doubtless 5,000 word essay about this game will be 100 times more annoying than that post.

How many of those games were reviewed by Phil?

Is it really that hard to understand that people might have different takes on a game?

I personally enjoyed the game, it's not mindblowingly amazing, it's good and well worth your time but having actually played the game I can totally see, and mostly agree, with the negative points in the Polygon review.

Honestly. Play the game, and then lets have a discussion (and man a lot of people are going to fucking hate the ending)

They've been hyping this game for almost 2 years now...and it's safe to say:

I AM NOT WORTHY!

The entire team deserves pay raises..especially Neil Druckmann, I'm salivating thinking what they could do with PS4 hardware.

Naughty Dog's 2nd team is going to have a hard act to follow

Wow this thread is moving fast.

It took our reviewer more than 21 hours to complete the game on hard difficulty. He took his time, but it's still very impressive.

That sounds like the perfect length for this kind of game.

The A.I. is above standard, but it is not groundbreaking in any way. Enemies don't have set patrols but they do have a pattern. They react to noise, will communicate, give orders and will be aware if one of the team mates aren't responding.

But I was never able to replicate the holding up a person with a gun and making him back away. I guess they opted to make the enemies aggressive instead.

Awesome, thanks. I wondered how much of the demos may have been scripted with AI reactions. I'm planning on playing around with the AI as much as possible in the full game.

Laws being broken? What the fuck?
Thought it was obvious I meant petty busines laws or some shit and not talking jail time. But again, the overreaction over my post is even worse than my general question of ignorance over whether or not a rival sponsor had influenced a score, based on the claims in this thread, is perfectly ok and sanctioned by metacritic. You're barking up the wrong tree if you're expecting a rabid fanboy upset with the score, sorry.

You guarantee none of them are as good as The Last of Us? A videogame that you have not played at all? Should he give The Last of Us high marks for any reason other than his personal conclusions from playing the game?

Seriously though - I´m not reading any reviews now. Going dark. Will get the game on Saturday.

I didn't find anything too spoilery about Rev3's video. Adam gave it a 5/5 too which I didn't expect.

Well i'm scared, the first 15 minutes should be amazing so i really don't want that to be spoiled.
